OT/PSA: MI State High School Football Finals are on
Today's not the Friday after Thanksgiving, but it is at least still a Friday. Fox Sports Detroit.
My alma mater (Warren De La Salle) down 13-0 to Muskegon Mona Shores at the half. This game has sort of become the "Alabama vs Clemson" of the D2 playoffs, they meet up a lot!

Donovan Edwards is a "real one" as the kids say for finishing his season with the West Bloomfield Lakers. I'm glad the kids have the option to finish what they started.

Anyone who gets a chance to watch West Bloomfield's game tomorrow should tune in. We've all seen highlights of 5-star backs, but watching Edwards in a full game against an excellent defense was seeing something special. The guy is explosive through traffic and plays angry--something Michigan desperately needs more of, IMO. I am super excited to see this guy suit up next fall.

Speaking of Michigan HS sports, I saw a headline about a "Hamilton freestyler," and my mind immediately went to Lin-Manuel Miranda, the freestyle rapper who created the musical Hamilton.

Rooting for Mona Shores all the way (Muskegon being just a half hour from here), and also rooting against your coach at De La Salle, Dan Rohn.
Although I'm not going to post details, I have (on authority of several people close to the situation while Rohn coached at my alma mater GR West Catholic) plenty of reason to dislike the guy.
Let's just put it this way: Urban Meyer has a clone in a lot of unsavory ways.

I would like to subscribe to your newsletter and learn more (as a DLS grad).

If this is true, that's a very interesting hire after the last coach got fired at De La Salle over a hazing incident.

Rohn was also Athletic Director at West Catholic, so I'm sure he covered his tracks very well.

I am from the West Michigan area and I have heard those same rumors too Rob.

Go Sailors! Brady Rose is far from intimidating from a physical stature standpoint but the dude can flat out play football!
January 22nd, 2021 at 2:47 PM ^
DLS '07. I'll take the Pilots.

How many DLS alum do we have on the blog?
January 22nd, 2021 at 5:58 PM ^
Huge feeder school for U-M. Something like 40 out of my class of 180(ish) went to U-M. The principal at my time (Brother Tom) was a U-M alum too.
January 22nd, 2021 at 6:22 PM ^
Definitely not the case by the time I graduated. Out of my class of 170, I think just over 20 went to U of M.
January 23rd, 2021 at 10:23 AM ^
DLS ‘93.
had about 10-15 of us out of 150 go to U of M. We were not a football powerhouse in my day.

Big 4th down stop for Shores!

Donovan Edwards plays tomorrow at 1pm. for those who are curious about teams other than DLS and MMS.

Glad they get to finish the season. Looks like there will be no winter sports after the announcement from the Governor this morning.

Rose punches it in and Shores leads, 25-13, with 1:47 left.
January 22nd, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
That Brady Rose is very impressive, what a game on offense, defense and on the special teams, recovering the desperation onside kick at the end with a very heady play.
January 22nd, 2021 at 5:25 PM ^
Any offense from Rose is impressive since the entire focus of every defense is always on him. His offensive production despite that is amazing. De La Salle held him in check better than anyone because their linebackers are really outstanding

Shores wins, 25-19! Back to back state champs!
January 22nd, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
Kudos to the kids on both teams, a very well-played game after going through this very trying season.
January 22nd, 2021 at 4:27 PM ^
Congrats to Shores, that's impressive.
I can remember them being an absolute doormat for a lot of years as Muskegon and MCC and WMC picked off all their talent, for them to become an athletic power seems kinda strange.
January 22nd, 2021 at 4:47 PM ^
They got Muskegon's old coach (resigned after one year). He was the replacement for Aneese but couldn't handle it there.
School choice has been a big factor in their success. Lots of kids from Heights.

Glad to see Centreville win Division 8. Went to school there through 6th grade. They were never considered a football power in that area before this season.

That Montague quarterback (Collins) is impressive.

Montague HS '84 graduate here.
3rd state title for MHS since 2008.
Go Cats!
