$$$$$$$
The B10 has a monetary interest in OSU being in the CFP.
They will do anything they can get away with to insure this .
December 5th, 2020 at 11:18 AM ^
Because football is OSU's identity ... that team is like their first responders. Without football OSU is just another mediocre academic institution. A nothing place in the armpit of America.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:20 AM ^
No place in the world is quieter than Columbus from the months of February to August
December 5th, 2020 at 11:36 AM ^
Imagine still pulling out the academic card after all these years. Your statement isn't even true by the way. OSU has managed to improve themselves into most top 30 rankings for public schools. I guess top 30 in the whole US is now "mediocre". God our fanbase has so many losers.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:45 AM ^
Yeah, but they barely have four stars.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:48 AM ^
We can always count on you to defend the honor of osu
December 5th, 2020 at 11:52 AM ^
Can always count on most of our fans to whine and cry how it's not fair and OSU gets special treatment etc
December 5th, 2020 at 12:11 PM ^
Think of it this way: Michigan's academics are to OSU's football as OSU's football is to Michigan's football.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:55 AM ^
Curious what that ranking method is? A close relative has a PhD in pharmacology from OSU and I know they are a bit better than we typically give them credit for, but you will never convince me they are tied with Purdue.
Having said that, I'm a meager EMU Commuter Eagle so I don't have a dog in the race as far as academics are concerned.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:26 PM ^
As a UM alumnus, I can tell you that your school and your University is what you make of it. Great people and professor everywhere. In terms of education, most universities (Liberty types and for Profit online diploma mills not included) use similar educational materials and have high quality professors if you seek them out.
The main disparity in the education experiences at universities really has to do with class size (your ability to interact with your educator), research and graduate productivity of the academic community, grant size, and connections (schools like Harvard, Stanford, UM, Notre Dame, Ivy League) have incredible alumni networks.
This is why I am ok with UM becoming a football factory as I don't believe it will diminish its standing as a top tier university. I do, however, understand the opposition to this.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:53 PM ^
i like this take and tend to agree. football and academics are not and do not need to be mutually exclusive rankings. they can benefit from each other.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
Pretty lame that you're getting negged because you're right. Pulling out the academic card on OSU is so weak. It's a pretty good school, especially when you compare them to all of the P5 schools
December 5th, 2020 at 12:46 PM ^
You only travel 65 players this year. With 24 players out between testing positive and contact tracing they still have ~90 players available. They are missing 4 starters.
If they quarantined positives and haven't had new positives this week, then why wouldn't they play?
December 5th, 2020 at 1:31 PM ^
Really? US News rankings? Do you see their methodology for ranking these places? "Student selectivity" is weighted 7% Graduation rates are double weighted in two separate categories. It's a joke.
December 5th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
Exactly. Not to mention, it’s all about money. Universities pay a bunch of money to get ranked. I believe an episode of Adam Ruins Everything covered that.
December 5th, 2020 at 7:33 PM ^
where do they rank in the Michael Burnham rankings™️?
December 5th, 2020 at 4:35 PM ^
#17? What kind of filter are you using where OSU could possibly accomplish that?
I am not one to bash other programs but let us not get carried away.
December 5th, 2020 at 1:24 PM ^
Ohio State is not a mediocre academic institution and saying so makes you look like another salty fan who has no clue.
Be mad about the state of Michigan football but when you say stupid shit like this, you only embarrass yourself.
December 5th, 2020 at 2:59 PM ^
Okay, I hate OSU as much as anyone, but to call them just a mediocre academic school is just not true.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:13 AM ^
Apparently most of those out tested negative. It’s just part of contact tracing. Yeah right.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:15 AM ^
The rules aren’t black and white. There’s a Scarlett and gray area.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:36 AM ^
Bravo! All the upvotes to you.
December 5th, 2020 at 1:25 PM ^
You understand that the list of 24 players out weren't all COVID, right.
Those were all the players out for any reason, injuries, etc.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:14 AM ^
It will be interesting to see how biased the officiating is in OSUs favor to cover for the players out.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:40 PM ^
They're laying MSU. I honestly don't think its going to matter one way or the other.
December 5th, 2020 at 2:41 PM ^
Yeah, because OSU is going to need the help of the refs in order to beat this MSU team ?
December 6th, 2020 at 4:48 PM ^
Laughable.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:17 AM ^
When you're a star, they let you do it.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:17 AM ^
All this effort to blow another playoff game to Clemson
Very on brand for OSU
December 5th, 2020 at 11:56 AM ^
Speaking of Clemson, here's hoping that a Trevor-led Tigers team can deliver a beatdown to the Domers (gotta shore up that defense!) and make the committee think twice about ND in the final four.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:18 PM ^
It won’t happen. ND and Clemson will swap playoff seeds if Clemson wins. The CFP is already set. The rest of the season is just a formality.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:59 PM ^
Ehh in my opinion one of the four seeds is not set. Clemson, ND and Alabama are set, but if Florida beats Alabama and wins the SEC, they will have a very, very strong case of getting into the CFP over OSU. I'd put them in over OSU, anyway. They'd have looked far more convincing against a better crop of teams. OSU has played a bunch of nobodies, and looked shaky against the one team with a pulse that they've played thus far.
Granted, UF beating Alabama is a tall order, but Kyle Trask is playing pretty damn well right now and at least gives UF a chance. If Florida wins the SEC, I think the final order will be:
1) Clemson
2) Alabama
3) ND
4) Florida
If Alabama wins the SEC:
1) Alabama
2) Clemson
3) OSU
4) ND
OSU and ND would swap spots so ND and Clemson wouldn't play back to back games against each other.
December 5th, 2020 at 1:21 PM ^
I think if ND beats Clemson in the ACC championship it’ll knock Clemson out of the CFP.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:27 AM ^
Yeah, I honestly don't know how this system works every school is basically allowed to self-regulate their testing. What'll be interesting to see is if any of these guys who are out for contact tracing reasons (which I assume is the reason OSU can play with 20 guys out) suddenly test positive next weekend if there isn't a game.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:30 AM ^
Minnesota was out just as many if not more players and they soldiered on.
About five of those guys were already on the list pre-covid. And then none of us have any way of knowing how many guys on the list are out for contact tracing.
Please let's give up the schtick that the Big Ten plays favorites with OSU. Even if they do, OSU has earned some special treatment by being the conference cash cow.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:44 AM ^
"Even if they do..."
The above Buckeye apologism is a bad take.
December 5th, 2020 at 1:40 PM ^
It's a BPONE take, which is sort of where my fandom is right now.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:35 AM ^
Well i sincerely hope they do plan but dont play very well.
I just be $100 on MSU +22.5. FWIW the line moved from OSU -24.5 to -22.5 once this news was released.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
I still think OSU wins by 30+, but hey, we'll see. I don't bet, but for the sake of your bet, I hope you collect.
By the way, GO BROWNS!
December 5th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
You're only problem is Rocky Lombardi isn't playing Michigan. He has looked less than pedestrian against every defense he's played against other than Michigan's.
December 5th, 2020 at 2:15 PM ^
The other problem is that OSU already played their one stinker this year. The Indiana win was their wake-up call.
December 5th, 2020 at 2:20 PM ^
I took OSU -13.5 for the first half. Can’t take MSU, it’s easy to lose betting on a shitty team to be less shitty than expected.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:43 AM ^
They are exempt from the rules. The Big Ten's shining star.
December 5th, 2020 at 11:44 AM ^
The B1G rules are just guidelines at this point. Programs are picking how they apply the guidelines to balance the interests of their players, admin, med staff, lawyers and boosters.
Winning football games is arguably the #1 priority for the entirety of the OSU tribe.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:03 PM ^
Everybody is afraid that Michigan will pretend its players have COVID.
Everybody is afraid that Ohio State will pretend its players don't.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:14 PM ^
Kay whatever but JAGGER LANCE?
December 5th, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
Yes. This.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:43 PM ^
Like everything else in college football, you agree to the rules up front and then just don’t follow them. There’s no enforcement method and the networks don’t talk about it so it’s the wild Wild West with a veneer of order.
December 5th, 2020 at 12:46 PM ^
As long as Michigan cancels next week I don’t care.
December 5th, 2020 at 3:54 PM ^
Cancel, then sign up to play Liberty instead. Get a look at the new HC to be.
