I actually don't care much about the BIG Officiating Head, but I'm surprised the National Officiating Coordinator/Head guy made a comment about it:
"[N]ational officiating supervisor Rogers Redding agreed that the call should not have been overturned when contacted by CBS Sports on Monday."
December 30th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
Rogers Redding sounds made up. Like someone said, "Even the national coordinator said it was a fumble." And when questioned, "who exactly is the national coordinator?" They were like, "Uh, Rogers, uh Rivero, uh Redding."
December 30th, 2019 at 9:01 PM ^
Sounds like Redding is retiring after this season, so probably felt comfortable making a statement because... what the hell are they going to do to him now? Fire him after 30 years, and like 2 weeks before retirement haha.

Except no, that non-fumble should not have stood.
Neat, a really slowed down video shows one thing and live/real-time shows another...to me an incomplete pass. It really is a fluky play, how often have we seen something like this where a player is making a catch, getting "pushed" and tackled backwards, not getting forward progress called, then fumbling after a stride or two?! Making a football move is a bit of a stupid notion at times but to me this play was never a fully possessed ball where the receiving player was allowed to do anything once the ball was caught and as noted, to me makes for a non-play.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:11 PM ^
100% agree. I was stunned when they didn't blow it dead live. I can't believe it's even controversial. That's never a catch in any game - at least since The Process era started
December 30th, 2019 at 9:00 PM ^
It's very obviously an incomplete pass when seen live. Shocking how when something is watched in slow mo it looks like he's holding the ball a lot longer than he actually did...
December 30th, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^
Just like the call in the championship basketball game. When you slow it down so much, of course it touches the offensive guys hand last. That's not how that play has ever been called. You have to view it in real time. That one they got wrong. This one they got right.

Cry babies.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
The same supervisor of officials that still employs John O’Neill and the Ohio Fan Boy Choir.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:41 PM ^
Right. Carollo has employed John O'Neill for his entire 11 year tenure and there are a couple games every year where O'Neill is making highly questionable decisions. Every B1G fan base (outside of OSU, seemingly) dreads seeing O'Neill showing up as a ref!
So, yeah ... take care of your own house before throwing some other conference's refs under the bus.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
Sure it was a bad call, but that happens in every game. OSU shouldn't have given up a 99-yard TD drive, otherwise blow a double digit lead, and fail to stop Clemson from scoring after taking the lead.
Of course the B1G is going to support OSU in this situation. But it's getting embarrassing how much they are complaining about this.
December 30th, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
This is unprecedented for the B1G to call out officiating from other confrences given how much B1G officials suck.
Having watched both the NFL and CFP/Bowls this week, it is shocking to me how terrible college officiating is ... it is painful to watch a college game and see both on-field and video reviews that are total fuck ups. That rarerly happens in an NFL game but every college game has shit calls everywhere.
December 31st, 2019 at 2:37 AM ^
I hope it was a bad call, makes it even more painful for OSU. Let ‘em feel what we felt in ‘16
December 31st, 2019 at 9:07 AM ^
Considering the blog you are currently posting on made an article about how it was a first down, makes this hilarious.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:56 AM ^
It wasn't the first down call, it was all the missed calls that came before that.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
How is this favoritism toward OSU?
Suggestion: why not step away from the computer for a few days? Contemplate the profound mysteries and magic of the natural world. Look up old friends and reminisce over old times. Start that exercise/weight loss regimen. Take up a creative hobby, like finger painting or knitting. Anything really. Just step away from the computer.
I'm going to try this myself.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:17 PM ^
It’s favoring OSU because the B1G won’t correct their own officials in public.
Trying to correct another conference’s officials in public is tatamount to spanking someone else’s kids at the mall.
Might feel good but you are going to jail.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:41 PM ^
Just go ahead and screw the rest of the Big Ten who still have to play their bowl games by pissing off other conference's officials by calling them out. All because their favorite son lost their game.
December 31st, 2019 at 1:29 PM ^
OP says they are favoring Online State. I'm not familiar with that institution of higher learning unless it is a double entendre for an institution that Justin Fields attends over the internet.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:10 PM ^
I see Delaney is still sucking osu cock on the way out, it figures as usual .
December 30th, 2019 at 8:11 PM ^
Further, I've no sympathy for those assholes. They've been catered to more than anyone in the country regarding collegiate athletics and can rightfully go eat a bowl of piss 'n cheerios.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
Guys....I hate OSU as much as the next guy but come on. Whether or not you agree with the outcome of the play, it would make ZERO sense for the official B1G office to not support one of its conference members in this way. Their job is to enhance to visibility and financials of the league. Supporting one of its members in a failed bid to the national championship game is what's to be expected.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:19 PM ^
They would have sent those officials baked goods if this happened to Michigan.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:32 PM ^
Please see the jbrandimore response above. The hypocrisy is palpable, and their job is fair competition first.
December 30th, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
They never said a DAMN word on Trey Burke’s clean block in 2013!
December 30th, 2019 at 10:08 PM ^
They didnt publicly support Michigan when the SEC was crying about satellite camps.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:20 PM ^
I will defend them if they admit JT was short. Until then, fuck off.
December 30th, 2019 at 11:20 PM ^
Or admit to the dozens of missed PI against our receivers and the holds and the fucked up spots and maybe, juuuuust maybe, I'll have a little sympathy.
So no, fuck em and the league for this bullshit
December 30th, 2019 at 8:22 PM ^
This whole online state nonsense is stupid. Be better. You sound like spartan fans
December 30th, 2019 at 8:31 PM ^
At least these posters are writing osu and not calling them Ohio.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:34 PM ^
I love it. The Suckeyes and O$U stuff is dumb. Online State University is great: topical, accurate, funny.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:36 PM ^
Yeah, they all got it wrong. It is THEE online state university.
December 30th, 2019 at 9:31 PM ^
The™ Online State University.
December 30th, 2019 at 9:07 PM ^
You’re right. It’s THE Online State University.
Hey, lighten up Frances.
December 30th, 2019 at 9:44 PM ^
Get it right - the online state university.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:33 PM ^
There are only two possible outcomes of the play:
1. Forward momentum stopped and play is dead
2. Incomplete pass
The other option is irrelevant.
BTW we beat OSU in 16 and 17 with fair officiating.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:12 PM ^
1. Forward momentum stopped and play is dead
This doesn't make sense, are you saying you can't fumble the ball "running backwards"?
December 30th, 2019 at 10:17 PM ^
You can if you choose to run backwards. If you’re forced backwards like the receiver did in this case, then the play stops.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:35 PM ^
It was a catch. Progress was not close to be definitively stopped. The call on the field should not have been reversed. Blind partisanship is not a virtue.
December 30th, 2019 at 9:13 PM ^
I actually don’t think it was a catch. He never turned up field or made any move with the ball. No partisanship - there were plenty of other call that didn’t go OSU’s way.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:17 PM ^
There are plenty of catches that involve getting two feet down and going out of bounds without the receiver making a move with the ball until they are out of bounds.
December 31st, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
This is because the receiver establishes and maintains possession while going out of bounds. The sideline ends the active play and the only thing left is maintaining possession.
In this case, because the receiver does not go out of bounds, the play ends when his forward momentum has been stopped and at that point he just has to maintain possession of the ball. Thus, only two possible outcomes as mentioned above is accurate, no fumble because of progress or no catch.
This is similar to a running back who runs into a defender who proceeds to drive him backward while forcing the ball out, it would not be ruled a fumble. However, if a running back starts to get driven backwards and then he breaks free and begins to move up field again and the ball comes out, it would be a fumble.
December 31st, 2019 at 10:02 AM ^
Watching live I thought there was no way that was a catch. Replay showed he took three steps but then I thought they were going to give him a catch and forward progress. Then they called in incomplete.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:39 PM ^
And when OSU needed him most, Jim Delaney could not impose his influence on the call...
The real crime in all of this is JT Barrett was short in 2016...
December 30th, 2019 at 8:43 PM ^
These comments just proves B1G officials and commissioner suck OSU dick.
FUCK OHIO.
December 30th, 2019 at 8:47 PM ^
Great. We're screwed now. No non- big ten crew will cut any big ten team a break moving forward. F-ing brilliant. But like someone else said, it's the same guy who keeps O'Neill employed.
December 30th, 2019 at 9:10 PM ^
Of course. The refs work so hard to get OSU into the playoff every year, so why wouldn't they do this. I personally thought the overturn was a bad call, but that makes it even better. OSU has gotten favorable officiating for decades now, it's about time they got screwed over. The fact that it ended their best chance at a national title for the foreseeable future makes it all the more sweeter.
December 30th, 2019 at 9:14 PM ^
The foreseeable future being approximately 365 days? I don’t see anyone in the big ten approaching their talent for the foreseeable future that’s for sure.
