Connor Grady Apologizes
It looks like Larry Lage of the AP reached out to Connor Grady and he cut and pasted his responses on his Twitter account (@Larry Lage):
October 21st, 2019 at 6:04 PM ^
It's all good now with Connor. Let's be real, he expressed something publicly that we all were probably mentioning behind the doors in our own rooms when we saw what happened. He is a young man and he made a stupid mistake. The most important thing is recognizing you made a mistake, taking ownership, and becoming a better man because of that.
Let's forgive and forget as a Michigan Wolverine community and move on.
Go Blue.

Not true, any fan with half a brain can see he was Michigan best WR all night, also all year. I personally saw many of you clowns on this site tearing him down Saturday night, It was embarrassing then and it’s embarrassing now.
October 21st, 2019 at 7:29 PM ^
It shouldn't even matter if he's a good player or not (though I agree he is) - it's just an awful thing to do. What kind of fan harasses his own team's players?
October 21st, 2019 at 7:57 PM ^
^ Exactly. Terrible thing to think to do, let alone do, regardless of the quality of the player.
October 21st, 2019 at 9:01 PM ^
Fans shouldn't be harassing ANY player ours or otherwise.
October 22nd, 2019 at 12:11 PM ^
Any fan who reaches out to a player on his own team or an opposing team in any such manner is a LOSER. Full stop. These are kids. It's a game. JHC...
October 21st, 2019 at 6:15 PM ^
umm... no. There is no way the team would have been down only 7 points if it weren't for the outstanding game Ronnie Bell played. There is no way I felt the same as Connor Grady.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:16 PM ^
If at any point during that sequence you thought “this guy is incompetent and should leave the team” there’s something wrong with you.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
Doesn't this kind of sum up the Michigan fanbase though? Best receiver on the team drops a game winning pass? He should be kicked off the team
Coach wins 10 games 3/4 seasons after inheriting a dumpster fire? He hasn't beaten Ohio State, so fire his ass.
Our fanbase is really full of shit sometimes
October 21st, 2019 at 6:55 PM ^
You are correct. It's hard coming here and reading all whining and bitching. I joined right before Harbaugh was hired (IIRC) and this is the worst I've seen this place.
I'm assuming it was worse in 2008.
I guess I can start using the troll cave, but I'm not certain yet.
October 21st, 2019 at 9:12 PM ^
I'm telling you in all seriousness, Rich Rod had more support here than Harbaugh does. This fanbase is shit. Look at the posts here.
October 21st, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
Undoubtedly. I'd say around 75% or more, from what I remember, were solidly behind him up until around the last couple of games in his 3rd season. And even then, I think there was a pretty significant tone of "if only the fanbase had supported him from the beginning things would have worked out."
October 22nd, 2019 at 6:30 AM ^
The fan base wasn’t the the problem for RR, it was Llllllloyd Carr and some of the ‘old right guard’ (big donors) that we’re trying to get rid of RR from the very beginning.Claiming he had a silent verbal from Terrell Pryor didn’t go over well when he didn’t.
October 21st, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
That is the dumbest thing I've ever read on this site outside of the subject of this thread.
Okay, that's hyperbole, but what you wrote is REALLY dumb and 100% factually incorrect.

There were years where the whining was group therapy. Now we are troll dominated. And part of the fanbase is just like the trolls.
October 21st, 2019 at 7:23 PM ^
Listen chief. None of these games, outside of the game that shall not be named, were competitive. This is why (a lot of) the fan base is upset with the losses and if you haven't figured this out than this conversation is over before it began. This is not a new criticism and this is why everyone has been upset since the Carr days. It is perfectly fine to lose but to get run off the field is a different story.
2015 Ann Arbor Ohio State (#8)42–13 Michigan 58–47–6
2016 Columbus Ohio State (#2)30–27 2OT Michigan 58–48–6
2017 Ann Arbor Ohio State (#9)31–20 Michigan 58–49–6
2018 Columbus Ohio State (#10)62–39 Michigan 58–50–6
More specifically, I didn't even bother to watch last weekends game due to the now-classic 21pt first half hole. Maybe I should turn my fan card in but all I can tell you for certain is that it is not for lack of trying. I am just simply tired and really need to increase the number of sites/blogs I follow on the internet.
Again, to be clear, support to R. Bell, that stuff happens, but I have much less of a threshold when it comes to hollering at the coaching staff.

Thanks for the insight champ.

I love how people like yourself accuse anyone who thinks firing the coach is a terrible idea right now of being content or not caring that we haven't beaten Ohio State. (The phrasing I usually hear is that we are "content with mediocrity) It's a cop out, really.
2017 was plenty competitive. And guess what. Ohio State has talent on par with Alabama and Clemson. Michigan does not. There is no coach walking through that door who is going to bring in more talent than Harbaugh has without cheating, which the AD will not allow. And no coach who has a magic wand that can out scheme what OSU has done any better than Harabugh. At least Harbaugh has shown he can get close, and has been extremely successful at three other stops. So, in my eyes, fans like you are PISSED MAN that Harbaugh hasn't beaten OSU, and they want him to pay for it. And in the process they're willing to cut off their nose to spite their face.
October 21st, 2019 at 8:23 PM ^
I agree with most of your paragraph starting with “2017 was plenty competitive”. However, I don’t agree that no other coach would have come up with a better game plan or scheme than Harbaugh. - His issues with time management, 4th down punting, and general head-scratching decision-making are not inspiring.
- He has not leveraged the talent we have at WR and slot.
- He no longer targets the weaknesses of the opposing defense (he used to).
He’s an above average coach. But that is all.
October 21st, 2019 at 9:34 PM ^
I'm not saying he's perfect but taking everything into considered I think he's as good as you're going to get. Only at least with him you have a solid floor of 8-10 wins, unlike almost literally every other plausible option having the risk if flaming out the way Rich Rod did.
The reason I made that comment about scheme is because there are definitely people out there who think that talent has very little to do with a team's success, and it's all about Xs and Os. Sure, teams with tons of talent fail all the time, but what are you supposed to do when you're going up against a coach who has all the talent but also has as good a scheme as anyone else?
October 21st, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
People forget we were 7-5 and 5-7 prior to Harbaugh coming. Prior to that, we had Hoke, RR, and arguably Carr in his last couple of years cratering the program. '15 was in alot of ways a gift season making good use of the talent we had. There is alot to rebuild; outside of talent even. All the antics the first couple of years was just to get us on the board for recruits.
Brian talks about things 'not being sparkly'. Okay. we aren't Clemson or OSU. But...
I for one enjoy the hell out of being competitive with MSU. I liked beating PSU and Wisci. And I honestly think we can build to being more competitive with OSU.
Oh, and so far no scandals, good graduation rates, and from what I've read an emphasis on players taking real classes.
We don't have it bad.
I reject, utterly, the idea that we just fire him and take a 'calculated risk'. Because our calculated risks have absolutely SUCKED for the last 15 years.
And if we did, and we lost talent through the portal, and the next guy was 3 years in and going 7-5, the Schmucks complaining now because Harbaugh did WHAT MOST EVERYONE WANTED will be right back spinning up their poison pens and drew sharpe like articles.
I don't listen to sports radio anymore.. And don't hit this place like I used to. And I'm starting to enjoy college football again. I can watch the games without anger or anxiety. The constant negativity is just getting to be an echo chamber.
Shea's lack of a keep or a kid's dropping a ball shouldn't affect your week.
October 21st, 2019 at 10:50 PM ^
I'm 100% with you. I'm enjoying watching, and I believe that the whole team is trending in the right direction, and making strides. I continue to strongly feel the OL was the achilles heel for a long, long time, and that Warinner has greatly improved things there. (And I fully expect a couple of OL guys to use the transfer portal to leave the program. And the reason is because they're being passed up by younger guys.)
The negativity, the snark, the anger, the vitriol, the barbs, I'm sick of it, and am much more careful what I read any more.
October 21st, 2019 at 7:37 PM ^
In 2017 we had the ball and a chance to win with 3 minutes left - that's an uncompetitive game?

I don't think it sums up the MI fan base. It sums up a small, vocal minority.
They do NOT represent me.
October 21st, 2019 at 7:37 PM ^
It's hard to say whether it's a small minority. Maybe it is, but I do know that outside of the mgoboard community, there is a ton of shitheads who call themselves Michigan fans.
October 22nd, 2019 at 1:05 AM ^
It's casual fans in general. When Alabama loses a rare game, there are actually people screaming for Saban's head. Happened with Meyer too.
The internet gives everyone a voice. Lo and behold, not all voices are created equal.

I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment, although my experience outside this Blog is that the incessantly negative types are over represented here.

1-10 vs top 10 teams
1-8 vs ranked teams on the road.
1-3 in bowl games
7-6 vs Wiscy, MSU and PSU
0-5 vs Ohio
But yeah, 10 games lol. Nobody gives a shit when you get to play Rutgers and Maryland
Just because you are a mediocre person who is comfortable with mediocrity and being Ohios bitch and getting destroyed but good teams doesnt mean the rest of us are
Youre a coward who wouldnt dare talk about what makes a real michigan fan in person

You are a known troll. Get off the site and go F-town yourself. Mr. MoCarrBo
October 22nd, 2019 at 9:38 AM ^
If you conclude that my belief that firing Harbaugh now would set the program back further means that I'm a "mediocre person who is comfortable with mediocrity", then I can just as easily conclude that your wanting Harbaugh fired means that you're impulsive and irresponsible, likely drowning in credit card debt and your wife won't sleep with you because you've screwed yourself over with terrible financial and personal decisions driven by impulsivity.
Of course I won't draw that conclusion because I don't feel the need to make up personal attacks on someone else when I'm having a discussion. That's typically done by people who don't have a ton of confidence in their position on a subject.
October 22nd, 2019 at 9:01 AM ^
Harbaugh's losses have been to very good competitive teams on the road. He hasn't lost to any team at home besides OSU and MSU. Here's a list of embarrassing losses Michigan had prior to Harbaugh:
2007: App State
2008: Illinois, Toledo, Purdue, Northwestern
2009: Illinois, Purdue
2013: near losses to mighty Akron and UConn
2014: Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland

well, we saw it with our punter a few years ago; he probably got it worse. and he probably had one of the best seasons ever as a punter here. a lot of assholes out there.

Anyone who didn't is a miserable excuse for a human being.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:19 PM ^
I don't know what else you and your buds are doing "behind the doors" in your rooms, but I assure you we were not all calling Ronnie Bell a "piece of shit" because he dropped a ball for the first time all year (and even if he dropped every ball all year).
October 21st, 2019 at 6:19 PM ^
Did you forget the “/s”?
It’s good that he reached out and apologized to Ronnie and the Bell family but that doesn’t take away the fact that it was an awful thing to send anyone, let alone a member of a team you support. Frankly it speaks to his character if he is willing to send a message such as that. I’m sure those close to him will be willing to forgive him because they know him and say he is good person, and fans such as yourself may say that it’s better to take the high road and call it a simple mistake. But people need to understand that there are consequences to your actions and a simple apology means absolutely nothing. His name is mud and it will take a long time for him to change that.
