Food for Thought, 2019 Season
Hi Community,
Something came to mind that I wanted to share and maybe generate some truths. Has it ever been considered that JH is now completely out of his element with the new hire (Gattis) and scheme so much that he's lost control of the team? That first series of yesterday's game screams that there is a high level of disorganization. It looks to me like JH truly has given the operational control of the offense to Gattis. Now, it begs the question, was this a move forced on JH? Was this OC acquisition a move forced from higher up the administration, and is now backfiring? What if JH isn't liking what he's seeing this year and is mailing it in? This season almost appears as if this new brand of UoM football is now un-coachable by Harbaugh. I hope that this all gets turned around next week, not next year.

I'm puking reading the title. Just stop. Harbaugh blows. He is all theater . Now I get what people have said.

It looks like player development, player development, and player development.
I looked at Wisconsin vs. Michigan recruiting rankings 2016-2019. Holy crap.
247 Composite Team Rankings
2019: M=8, W=28
2018: M=22, W=45
2017: M=5, W=39
2016: M=8, W=35

To be fair, Wisconsin finds guys that fit their system and doesn’t ask them to be anything they are not. They have a dominant o-line and those guys don’t hit the recruiting camp circuit and are almost always undervalued. They compete for Big Ten titles, but I don’t see them ever winning a national title in a playoff system. They just aren’t athletic enough at the skilled positions to win multiple games against teams with better athletes. They might be able to slow down a game against OSU, limit possessions and catch a few breaks but to do it again in the Big Ten title game, the semifinals, and then the championship game is too much.
September 22nd, 2019 at 6:35 PM ^
And to be fair Michigan’s last 3 big games they’ve been blown out 62-39 41-15 and 35-14 so what’s your point
September 22nd, 2019 at 7:05 PM ^
To be fair, we have top 10 recruiting 3 of the last 4 years and have been blown out 3 of our last 5 games. You know, to be fair.

To be fair, Wisconsin has an identity and wins a lot of games, and a coach who does what he, and they, have been doing for awhile. AND to be fair--it's actually working!

It does work, but it has a ceiling. They are happy going 10-3. We claimed we weren't. So we changed the offense. Can't have the reward without the risk though.
September 22nd, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
The change of offense is a symptom of desperation. Harbaugh, and the team, would have been much better served fixing what he had. Because, brother, it wasn't that the offense couldn't score points fast enough, it was because the offense was unable to score when it had the ball. Oh yeah, then there was the problem of the defense not being able to defend against teams with a pulse. But that's for another thread.

whats our rankings when you take away the guys who have left
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:13 PM ^
I’m sure it was considered in one of the other 100 post game, feelings fucktard threads. Great post. No overkill at all.

Mr. Creosote?

The best part of that is how they present him the bill after he's exploded all over the place. Classic Monty Python. One of the best shows ever
September 22nd, 2019 at 8:56 PM ^
Although their TV show was great, that scene's from the Pythons' movie The Meaning of Life.

Sounds like you invited me over for dinner but expect me to bring the food, cook it, set the table, and serve.
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:15 PM ^
He's not the coach we wanted or needed him to be. It's not rocket science.
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
Exactly. He failed. Time to move on. Call Venables immediately.

FYI, not every single thought deserves a new thread. There are lots of threads. You could put this in one of them.

The answer to all our mgothread problems is Haloscan.

These responses to people interacting in a world where the goal and focus is constant spotlight amuses me. For the generation that had grown up on social media sharing their every thought, feeling and bowel movement, thoughts are supposed to be shared. It’s disgusting and overkill but to be expected. At least by this old guy.
September 23rd, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
Eh, some people are like that but in my experience, I've been far more astounded by what my parents and their friends put on social media than I am any of my (I'm 30 years old) peers.

When I read title thought theme was describe yesterday in terms of food: a giant shit sandwich seemed best!

I don't think he was forced to do anything. Warde has given him pretty clear freedom. The money has been rolling in - even if the ceiling has been 10 wins (in a good year, not this one).
Even Michigan team that recovered from a bad start had leaders in the locker room. I recall the crappy start to the 1998 season and a few ugly wins but we got on a roll and lost only to an OSU team that should have won the NC. Guys like Jon Jansen, Ian Gold, etc. wouldn't let us flame out for good.
Even the 2007 debacle, Hart and Jake were the leaders.
This team? I'd actually rather start hearing about some shouting matches and a few pushes and shoves on the field and in the weight room to know we have a pulse. There is a fine line between people quitting and people responding to adversity.
Shea has regressed in ways I never imagined, so I can't see him stepping up to be that guy. Chase would not have let this team get to this point. and Bush Jr too.
If there is such a thing as a soft spot in the schedule, it's now.
I would have liked to see Ruiz get the line angry - maybe that happens this week.
September 22nd, 2019 at 6:16 PM ^
This was a good read and great perspective right here. I am also completely baffled at what Shea has become this season. I thought he would show an extreme level of passion, given it's his final year.
September 22nd, 2019 at 9:01 PM ^
Maybe he’s depressed because he knows he’s never even making a practice team in the nfl?
September 22nd, 2019 at 6:20 PM ^
I agree completely. This team lacks a player leader to get them back on track and put some passion on the field. Maybe DPJ can be that person. While I didn’t like the personal foul, I do appreciate the occasional swagger type approach. Someone needs to be running up and down the sidelines getting the team pumped.
September 22nd, 2019 at 7:28 PM ^
For what it's worth, radio guys said Bell was screaming at the team on the sideline to stop beating themselves.
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
Missed the game?
After the long reception by Bell we had:
Confusion on who should be in the game - same as last year.
A wasted time out - same as last year.
A FB run - same as last year.
How can all of you not see the only difference in offense is we aren’t under center all the time.

Me with all of these threads and hot takes

I see Nico liked a tweet that had hashtag fire Harbaugh . The whole thing is crumbling
September 22nd, 2019 at 6:17 PM ^
Uh-oh, that really ain't good at all. It's going to be a very long and ugly season.
September 22nd, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
You're just going to leave out the part where the actual content of the tweet was a video showing Nico wide open and Shea not throwing him the ball? Honestly fuck off.
September 22nd, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
I'm hoping you're both 12 and think tweets are cool for that reason only
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:29 PM ^
It is 5 28 in the pm. You all are reading perspectives.
September 22nd, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
Yes, and thanks for joining us!
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:40 PM ^
There has always been disorganization going back to at least 2017. This isn't a Gattis thing. How many timeouts have been burned because of confusion on the playcall? Also, how many delay of games have we had because we couldn't get a play called in time?
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
People are acting like JH has done nothing.
Goodness, in the years before, we were getting our asses handed to us regularly by MSU. Now we're probably one 1/1000000 play and an untimely rainstorm from being 4-0 against MSU.
We've played 2/4 games against OSU very close; should have won 2016, definitely could have won 2017. 2015 wasn't close; 2018 was also a blowout in Meyer's last game.
People are VERY forgetful about what UM football was like the 7 years before JH. And, it could go right back in the toilet again with another RichRod/Hoke hire.
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:57 PM ^
We’re 0-4 vs OSU soon to be 0-5. We shouldn’t be ok with 2 of the losses being close.
2-2 vs MSU more than likely 2-3 by November
0-1 vs ND soon to be 0-2
Jim Harbaugh is the most overpaid and overrated coach in the country. It’s embarrassing the results he’s given for the pay he receives. Might as well try somebody else. Sure we could be worse than the hollow 10-3 Jim brings.
September 22nd, 2019 at 8:19 PM ^
AND people are NOT forgetting how "bad it was" under Rodriguez and Hoke, that is a silly, stupid, played out narrative.
Or are those who are still holding Harbaugh's dick when he pisses forgetting that people wanted Lloyd to GTFO even with an NC, multiple B10 titles, and consistent 10-win seasons???
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:54 AM ^
Our 2015 and 2018 losses to OSU were FAR worse than any of Hoke's three losses (and he beat them once).
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:47 PM ^
I wish the mods would delete all these hot take threads
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:56 PM ^
What to you mean turned around?
Unrealistic expectations are crazy around this program.
We were a 3 loss team last year, lost most the defense and gained a OC.
What surprised me the all the people saying "Big Ten Champs" and "Playoffs".
I figured this year would 3 losses, maybe catch some breaks for a 2 loss season.
If you brought Saban in year we wouldn't be a playoff team either.
September 22nd, 2019 at 7:11 PM ^
3 losses. Looking like 5 or more where im sitting buddy boy
