Don Brown Army Presser 9/9/19
I don't want to live in a world where Don Brown isn't at Michigan. I love this guy.
Sorry for no embed. I'm old.

Hes right, we held them to their lowest total yards since 2015. The defense did an outstanding job , they gor turnovers when they were absolutely needed, actually an A+ performance from our defense. The bit about the move call was pretty hilarious, were lucky to have Don Brown thats for sure.
September 9th, 2019 at 8:49 PM ^
His "MOVE!" shout scared the shit out of the press-conference camera man.
September 9th, 2019 at 11:55 PM ^
How does the "MOVE!" work? What actually happens on the field?
September 10th, 2019 at 9:14 AM ^
Beginning at 15:00 in this video. The linebacker yells "Move!" and the FB jumps offsides. It really is a cool play.
September 10th, 2019 at 2:51 PM ^
Wow... I'm surprised we can hear it in the video.
September 9th, 2019 at 2:43 PM ^
Brown says Jordan Glasgow might be the "best player in the Big Ten," huh?
September 9th, 2019 at 3:01 PM ^
pretty sure brown meant hes one of the best wills in the league, strictly at his position not best overall.
then again its his job to hype his players - like paye being the most technically proficient player in ncaa
September 9th, 2019 at 2:44 PM ^
This is kind of related to the defense - but I don't understand how, on their 2nd TD, it wasn't called a penalty when the FB literally crawled on all-4s up behind the QB, presnap.

September 9th, 2019 at 2:48 PM ^
Is it allowed as long as he resets? What about him pushing the QB? Why does that never get called? Is it still illegal?
September 9th, 2019 at 2:53 PM ^
It's legal now. So I think that was legal as long as he was not moving towards the line when the ball was snapped.
September 9th, 2019 at 6:07 PM ^
I feel like the "Bush Push" and QB dive is one of the most reliable plays to pick up 1 yard. It probably risk injury more than a FB dive, but it seems damn-near unstoppable when you have a big back pushing the QB and getting everyone leaning forward.
September 9th, 2019 at 8:47 PM ^
I'm surprised it does not become a fundamental part of everybody's game plan now.
September 10th, 2019 at 7:37 AM ^
Things have changed. When I coached, once that fullback is in the 3 pt stance, he can not bring that hand up, and go in motion unless it's lateral to the line of scrimmage. Now if his hands were on his thighs I wouldn't have an issue with it, but his hand was on the ground, and once that happens, if he moves toward the line of scrimmage, that's a false start. If any other player started to move forward, that would have been a false start.
September 9th, 2019 at 2:53 PM ^
I wondered this, too, but my guess is they considered him re-set before the ball was snapped?
September 9th, 2019 at 2:53 PM ^
Don Brown doesn't understand either. He sent the play to the authorities for clarification on if it's actually legal. Clearly he think the fullback wasn't set long enough.
September 9th, 2019 at 3:27 PM ^
Can't believe this rule would have been changed, way too easy to exploit.
The fullback has to be set for a second before the snap, otherwise illegal motion.
He is allowed to motion forward as long as he resets, didn't happen. Not sure how this is missed.
I also disagree with Brian on the Targeting. It's true that the player should get leeway since the rb was falling. But his technique was head first and down, arms at his side using helmet as a ram.
9/10 this helmet hits in the back or ribs or legs. But he got unlucky, but that's the technique they are trying to get rid of the game
September 9th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
I think the part that is legal now is pushing the ball carrier from behind to get more yards. The whole 'Bush Push' with USC-ND a few years back is what led to that getting legalized. The part about the back moving before the snap remains illegal if he doesn't 'get set' before the snap. I believe that is a one second time frame of being still before the snap.
And yeah, that should not have been a targeting call...
September 9th, 2019 at 4:36 PM ^
Oh yeah pushing is now allowed as long as you don't grab and pull, or throw.
No way there's a second between the movement of the rb and the ball is snapped. And It's not like a WR on the outside turning slightly upfield where there's isn't much advantage ..
But it was 1st and goal from the 1 .. The would have scored anyway.
September 9th, 2019 at 5:13 PM ^
Would have been 1st and goal from the 6 after the illegal shift/motion/procedure/whatever penalty.
September 9th, 2019 at 2:59 PM ^
I was wondering about that too, but I'm not a rules expert, nor do I play one on tv.
September 9th, 2019 at 4:36 PM ^
I looked it up in the NCAA football rulebook that night. Except for one player who can be in motion but not moving toward the line of scrimmage, everyone has to be set for one second. That play definitely should have been penalized.
September 9th, 2019 at 2:52 PM ^
The coolest part of this is you can feel a.) his passion, love, and knowledge of his job and, more importantly b.) the love for his players. You can tell he'd be somebody you'd love to play for.
September 9th, 2019 at 2:56 PM ^
Thanks Coach Brown.
I feel much better.
September 9th, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
Age is not an excuse for unwillingness to learn.
September 9th, 2019 at 6:04 PM ^
Taught my Dad how to pay his bills online when he was 82. His reaction was priceless. He knew he was a high-tech old man.
September 9th, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
That is the best antidote to BPONE there could possibly be. He's saying bring on Wisconsin, that's what we are built to stop! He is lit up.
Schematically, I was dismayed to see them come out in a three-man line. But his answer to it was really good, and you can't argue with the result (though I was surprised Army didn't run the fullback dive more often). There's so much going on that fans don't know.
September 9th, 2019 at 3:58 PM ^
Didn't he run it 29 times?
September 9th, 2019 at 4:16 PM ^
That's right. I was surprised at that. During the game it seemed like Army was attacking the edge more, especially when they got near the goal line. I should know by now not to believe my lyin' eyes. It'll be fascinating to see how Kemp comes out in the UFR.
September 9th, 2019 at 10:20 PM ^
Right on, dude! That was very uplifting to watch! Definitely put me in a better frame of mind, although my concern has not been with the defense. Looking forward to seeing us get after Wisconsin's offense. If our D can do a pretty solid job at slowing down Taylor, and get them in some 3rd and longs, then Coan better look out. Don Brown is bringing the REAL DEAL to Wisconsin, OK?!?!?!
September 9th, 2019 at 3:56 PM ^
If only there was a Don Brown on the offense...
September 9th, 2019 at 5:28 PM ^
His name is Art Briles...He is a morally bankrupt scumbag currently coaching a High School team in Texas.
September 9th, 2019 at 5:42 PM ^
Truth, sadly. Because as unethical as the man is, he's probably one of the most overlooked offensive geniuses in the sport.
September 9th, 2019 at 4:06 PM ^
I have to admit I was down on the defense during/after the game out of emotion but brown gives the best press conferences and has me feeling confident in the defense again...
The offense is a different story.
September 9th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
It is very bizarre to me that anybody was down on the defense after the game. They were on the field more than they wanted to be due to the offenses issues and just like last week the first team defense did not give up a scoring drive that wasn't a short field created by the offensive turnovers. By in large they held Army to what they were shooting for running game wise from a defensive standpoint and crushed them on passes. The defense saved the game with the int and plays in overtime in particular.
September 9th, 2019 at 4:58 PM ^
Wow. That man exudes mastery of his craft.
Don Brown truly is the man.
September 9th, 2019 at 5:11 PM ^
How is he not frustrated by the lack of support from the offense?
September 9th, 2019 at 5:43 PM ^
Perhaps he is, but he's far too classy a man to air that out in a press conference.
I have a hard time believing there isn't frustration. I also have a hard time believing the coaches are going into the locker rooms and into the practices saying "Hey, we've got nothin' to fix here!" Even on the offensive side.
Heck, even Rich Rod admitted problems when he was here, and I'd daresay he admitted them more freely than Hoke did. Of course, admitting them is only the first step to fixing them, and not an end result, but still...
September 9th, 2019 at 9:22 PM ^
What would you expect him to say? "Boy, our offense sucked. Screw those guys?"
September 10th, 2019 at 12:00 AM ^
He probably has some experience with this sort of situation after Boston College.
September 9th, 2019 at 5:53 PM ^
Yeah we need to make him lifetime corch. Didn't think I could love the guy any more till I watched that. Dated a chick from Boston back in the day and yes - sawr - is a word.
September 9th, 2019 at 5:58 PM ^
Well, that was the best 24 minutes I spent today.
Holy smokes, he's simply terrific at the press conferences.
September 9th, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
There is a lesson in listening to his presser. He teaches because he knows how unaware fans and even the press can presume to know what they really don't know. For example, I've heard guys on here drone on about how lucky the defense was that that the D held on the goal line stand early in the 3rd. Then you learn of the called shout and jump that startled and Army player. That was worth 5 yards. It was coaching that helped make that happen.
September 9th, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
Holy crap, can we just have Don Brown run everything?
The Defense. The Offense. Special Teams.
All of it.
September 9th, 2019 at 9:14 PM ^
Like be the head coach?
September 9th, 2019 at 9:19 PM ^
Don never fails to entertain. Great guy.
September 10th, 2019 at 5:26 AM ^
I love Professor Don Brown. And his mustache.
September 10th, 2019 at 7:28 AM ^
I loved every minute of that... except “I probably won’t be around the next time I have to defend the triple option.”
