I don’t understand. Is this an official beta version you are testing? Anyway, I’ll wait and see if true. I’ll also chime in to say I am willing to pay a fee to ensure it has no ads.
August 15th, 2019 at 7:59 PM ^
Its something I am building on the side. It's almost ready for Beta testing.
I don't see how I can charge for this (or at least charge AND keep the money). The site mods do too much work for that.
August 15th, 2019 at 8:02 PM ^
there have been unofficial apps in the past. they were pulled from the store or blocked from pulling content from the site because the apps dont provide mgoblog any ad revenue
August 15th, 2019 at 8:59 PM ^
They also killed the site by doing a fetch of everything, each time they wanted something. That was one of the big reasons Brian killed them off before the site was rebuilt. Not sure if he'll let this go, or not. May depend on how it pulls data and provides ad revenue.
But like others are saying, I'd pay a fee to avoid ads...

You should work something out with Brain and co. So your app will stick around .
I'd pay gladly for an ad free experience.

I'm still trying to get Brian to unblock me on Twitter. Rev share seems like a bridge too far

Agree. The mobile experience is lacking. I too would gladly pay for an app.
August 15th, 2019 at 9:27 PM ^
TBH the non mobile experience is lacking as well. I would say let’s fix one thing before we have 2 mediocre things

To be fair, my Samsung phones have held up well enough. The one thing that consistently puzzles me, however, is why one update will make things easy on the battery, and then the next one - sometimes just days later - wants my phone to just be dead.
August 15th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
I've tried both and have had much better luck with iPhones. I understand for developers that android is a better platform to work with/on.
August 15th, 2019 at 9:59 PM ^
I was anti-iphone for a long long time until I finally looked back and I'll be darned; I never once just upgraded an android. Every. Single. One. had a significant malfunction. Samsungs, HTCs, Motorolas; all had issues and most were before two years were up.
Since then, 2 iPhones and by far the best phones I've ever had. So that's like irrefutable proof or something
August 16th, 2019 at 8:20 AM ^
I’m with you...had Droids through the years and recently 3 iPhones. Seemingly much better software quality w/IOS (in spite of my happy dance gif above ...would be even happier when IOS version arrives!)
August 15th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
Switched from an iPhone to a Pixel 3, which is like iPhone Lite in terms of Android experience. Have loved it thus far and use everything Google's ecosystem has to offer and couldn't be happier. Everything works in seamless harmony and I'm not sure I'll ever go back to Crapple

Love the blue kool aid.....oh yeah!
Not surprising but it's a pretty polarizing subject. We are a house divided and my wife, like a couple friends of mine, love to bash iPhones but have never tried one. To each their own.

Android?
August 15th, 2019 at 8:51 PM ^
Greater market penetration and a more open distribution ecosystem. iPhone hasn't really innovated in the last few years
August 15th, 2019 at 9:04 PM ^
I don’t know what most of those words mean but I think iPhone is probably doing alright in the market.
August 15th, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Apple is sitting on $245 BILLION in cash and they stopped innovating. Jobs is turning in his grave.
August 15th, 2019 at 9:59 PM ^
He sure is! Tim Cook is a helluva logistics and operations guy, but he's not an innovator. He has no feel for what consumers don't know they want - which was Job's bread and butter (even though he never ate bread and butter). All that cash is just collecting dust. I mean, half of that cash could put an Apple TV in every household throughout the country. Do that, and they'd mint their money for the next 5 years.
Or, you know, just pay off my mortgage and I'll buy my own Apple TV...
August 15th, 2019 at 10:53 PM ^
I haven't studied it, but I never understood what was / is unique about Apple TV. What's the selling point vs the competition? What is it particularly good at? (I'm a very satisfied iphone and apple watch user, so this coming from an anti-apple person by any means).
August 16th, 2019 at 9:43 AM ^
There is nothing unique about Apple TV, except that it integrates with other Apple products pretty well. Which is why it hasn't made a dent in any discernable market.
August 16th, 2019 at 9:59 AM ^
I personally like the UI. I also like that you can have your TV screen saver cycle through your iPhotos. I also like that whenever you need to put in a password (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) you can pull from your Keychain on your phone and use your phone to type things into the TV. There are also apps like Zwift that I use for cycling that only exist on Apple TV. I also like that any movies or TV shows I want to actually purchase can be watched on the TV, iPad, Mac, or Phone either at home or with travel.
Whether it's worth the price premium? That's up to you. But that's why I did it.
August 15th, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
So......iPhone version?
August 16th, 2019 at 8:23 AM ^
I thought the same...I’m surprised it took 12 comments before you asked!
August 15th, 2019 at 8:44 PM ^
As much as I would love a functional way to view this site on mobile, there is no way Brian is going to let this stick around.
August 15th, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
August 15th, 2019 at 8:47 PM ^
Charge for an ad free experience and send it to Brian & Co.
Also that will keep some of the riff-raff stae/osu fans off.

What could have motivated this? The new site is mobile friendly!
Seriously, though, nobody tell Brian.

August 15th, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
When does IOS app come out? Once in a while I’d love to post a pic or two but you can’t with iPhone or iPad. I’m sure, in general, an IOS version would be much more useful/beneficial than an android app. Bummer.
August 15th, 2019 at 10:10 PM ^
Brian et al: sent you emails to this effect. Will reiterate. $1k a year for an ad free app that has the usability the site currently lacks? Will sign up now.
August 15th, 2019 at 10:31 PM ^
Yeah, uh, despite how much I'd love an app again, unless Brian has approved this it's going to get shutdown before it gets off the ground.
