What’s the next Michigan single game individual record to fall?
The current record holders:
Pass completions - 34 (Tom Brady)
Passing yards - 503 (Devin Gardner)
Passing TDs - 6 (Jake Rudock)
Rushing yards - 347 (Ron Johnson)
Rushing TDs (modern era)- 5 (Ron Johnson)
Receptions - 15 (Marquise Walker (twice))
Receiving yards - 369 (Jeremy Gallon)
Receiving TDs - 4 (Derrick Alexander and Jehu Chesson)
Total offense - 584 (Devin Gardner)
Tackles - 24 (Calvin O’Neal)
Sacks - 5 (Mark Messner)
TFL - 8 (Khaleke Hudson)
If I had to pick one, it’d be completions, and possibly soon.
I think the world will end before Gallon’s record is broken.
Longest punt.
Monte Robbins, right? 82 yards if memory serves correctly.
Monte Robbins - 82 yard punt against Hawaii in '86, Harbaugh's senior year.
Some blue hairs just got an erection that will last longer than 4 hours with that post.
a/k/a a priapism. Seek medical help if it lasts longer than 4 hours.
If that happened to me I'd call all my friends first.
My buddy's 85 year old dad used to say, "Call a doctor...? If it lasts 4 hours I'm calling Guiness."
I wish.
I believe that was the last time we played a non-bowl game after the OSU game.
Hopefully we will end that drought this season.
UM vs Hawaii in 1998 ( I was there ).
Sat with a bunch of servicemen from Michigan on the fifty yard line behind our bench. Great game, great day, great vacation!!!!
Ironically, Blake O'Neill had a 82 harder early on in the 2015 MSU game if I am not mistaken -- may have been further.
Probably passing TD's. If we get a faster tempo offense with a good QB, 7 passing TD's should be doable.
The problem with any passing stats is that unless you're in a Haskins vs. Purdue situation where you have to throw a bunch of stay in it, a blowout is going to see a lot of rotation at the key spots such that a guy wouldn't be able to collect the requisite stats. For example, both the Gallon, Gardener, and Rudock numbers came in games against IU where those were real shootouts and the defense faltered.
So basically, play a chaos team. Maybe Nebraska?
I agree, yet maybe crossing routes keep would opening up for TD's over and over against some overmatched team that's decided to go all in to stop the run.
What, no love for the kickers?
Right on...
most field goals
longest field goal
What about return yards, interceptions, yikes...fumbles and interceptions
Most motherfucking commercials.
I would like those commercials a lot better...wait I mean yea no kidding
That's a new record every week though.
Given the lack of a sport in the OP's thread title, I was going to chime in with Ks or HRs based on our new baseball prowess and subsequent impact on recruiting.
Not sure of an answer but I was at that IU game where some of these records were set. The defense was so bad it was not enjoyable. I also remember it raining, sleeting, and almost snowing. That game made me invest in good rain gear. My fondest memory was saying, "so and so is open, everybody is open!" Famous meme from that game too. This poor girl gets brought out anytime UM is being dogged on.
I feel bad for her, but shifty eye guy behind her is great.
I was at that game as well. I remember Indiana going 80 yards in 3 plays, 75 yards in two plays...it completely sucked the fun out of how well the offense was doing.
The last "fun" game against Indiana was 2006. Every meeting since then has involved stressful shootouts, blown leads, overtime heroics, John OKorn in the snow...and last year's game which was pretty ho-hum after 9 straight wins, on top of the fact that IU players looked like they were intentionally trying to injure our guys.
While not a ‘record’, per se, the John O’Korn v. IU game, a.k.a. The Sno-Globe Game, was maybe the prettiest game I’ve attended. UTL I was the most exciting along with being visually stunning. As far as breaking records go, I would say longest field goal is the most likely.
Whoever took out Berkely (sp?) Edwards had better never show his face in A2 again . I’m a Peace loving old man and someone might have to restrain me from kicking him in the groin.
Here's hoping that Mattison puts up a similar performance the next time he's in a game involving Michigan ?
That game was so ridiculous from an offensive numbers point of view, Fitz Toussaint had 4 tds on the ground and everyone was like "Meh."
Like London bridge, all fall down on Nov 30, 2019.
Most consecutive wins vs OSU this century.
Itll happen some time in November 2020.
Ben Mason breaks the Rushing TDs record w/ 6 one-yarders.
But seriously, Hayden Epstein's 57 yd FG record could be broken by Quinn Nordin should Harbaugh give him the chance. Not sure about Moody's 57+ range.
Oops dittoed ya. Hope you enjoyed it more than me.
I hope Quinn gets it together. That first game against Florida I thought we had ourselves 3-4 years of an NFL kicker...since then it seems like it's been shank city
Most epic meltdown by a head coach as Ryan Day channels Woody Hayes while the Buckeyes are being handed their asses by the maize and blue.
I would enjoy that!
Agreed that Pass Completions looks like the stat most achievable on that list. I wouldn't put it past Harbs to see if Mason could score 6 TDs from the 2 tho.
Mason got stuffed repeatedly at the worst times late last season. He's no Hammering Panda.
I’d say completions, passing TDs, or total offense.
Total offense is a good bet. Especially of the team wants to run up the score early in the year to iron out the kinks.
I'd have to pick total offense, even in a blowout the subs could pile on the yardage. With a good d it's hard to see a starter staying in after we've scored that many points.
It's not crazy to think Shea could get one of the records this year if not for QB depth. JH will sub-in the backups before the video game numbers start to accumulate.
Tackles.
34 is a ton of completions. For reference, Shea averaged about 16 completions a game in 2018. And was pretty efficient in doing so. He only attempted 34 twice -- @OSU and vs Florida.
Completions. I was thinking total yards but then Shea/McCaffrey would have to go for 385 yards passing and 200 rushing ..... even throwing for 450 they'd have to run for 135 to break it. Maybe it's BPONE but I see no situation where this happens.
I could see a 40 completion game with #speedinspace.
Completions or total offense seem most likely to me.
Don't know what the records are, but longest kickoff return for a touchdown, longest punt return for a touchdown and longest interception return for a touchdown would be interesting records to break, especially if they all were broken in a single game.
Drives that start with run, run, pass.
Could see completions and receptions going down during the same game this season.
Cheers.
2013 Gardner/Gallon was hilarious. You got the sense everyone except Indiana's defense was thinking "Um, maybe you should occasionally cover the receiver with an absurd number of yards".
Consecutive passing plays
