James Hudson

FWIW---Local news here in Cincy reporting Hudson has been denied eligibility for 2019 season.

Which is why the NCAA should just start granting immediate eligibility on transfers for all athletes.  The risk is always there that they will choose the most inflammatory claims if it gets them what they're looking for.  Time to make the change and avoid the circuses.  That way athletes who might have had real issues don't have to deal with the scrutiny and invasion of privacy.  Just let them go.

And yet his family is comfortable with his younger sister there to play softball. That appeal was a joke. Fields thought he could waltz in as a true freshman and unseat Fromm who had led Georgia to the CFP National Championship Game as a true freshman the prior year. And then used a BS excuse to get out a dumb decision. End of story.

I feel for the kid, seeing Martell getting a waiver for his coach leaving and now being denied would really bother me if I were in his shoes.  This was exactly what coach was getting at when the press took it in a complete different direction.

As a football fan, I would guess that James is going to be okay and this will be a year of getting bigger, stronger, faster with little risk of injury.

Well to be fair the way Harbaugh worded his statement could be construed as him accusing one of his former players of faking mental illness, which he may very well be doing.  Not saying Hudson is faking it, not saying Harbaugh is accusing Hudson of faking it, but Harbaugh could have just left his original statement about 1 time transfers alone without going off on a tangent about faking mental illness.

Yes, but Harbaugh has a sense of right and wrong that wouldn't be addressed if he hadn't extended the discussion.  He's saying we shouldn't be putting kids into situations which effectively force them to construct lies in order to gain something that should rightfully be theirs anyway (immediate eligibility).  We shouldn't be teaching 18-22 year olds that's the way the world works.

He's right.  He didn't say it wrong or put it indelicately.  He made a statement based on what he believes.  The story was blown up because of three things that we all understand by now: 1) the sports media has nothing to discuss in this dead air of the sports calendar, and Harbaugh/Michigan anything is good ratings (due to Harbaugh being an unplastic man in a world of synthetics, and Michigan being lightning rod for regionalism), 2) the culture of shock and attack that twitter didn't invent but weaponized, and 3) political correctness which is the same shit that's been happening for decades and needs no explanation.

This whole transfer thing is such a mess-for all involved. Coach Harbaugh's proposal is right on target-and I think the players should be able to return to their originally committed school (again) without sitting out as well. This process is crying to be cleaned up and the sooner the better.

He should have said somebody in the band called him a racial name. It works if you go to the suckeyes.

I’m typically on board with immediate eligibility, but it’s clear from context that this is the guy trying to find a legit reason to transfer other than “Got Super Pissed Mid-Season, and I’m Throwing a Tantrum”.  I legitimately wish him the best, and I don’t think the NCAA is consistent AT ALL in how they rule on these things, but by the letter of the law this is a clear denial.  He’s actually transferring a couple of hours FARTHER from his hometown.

It was so dumb to transfer in the middle of the season. That is the person he needs to be directing his anger toward. The NCAA transfer policy is stupid, but the rules are the rules, and it was pretty clear he was going to have to sit out based on the timing. And the ironic thing about it is if he had just waited until the end of the year, he could have just used coaching change with OC Pep Hamilton being let go as the reason for his transfer. Oliver Martin is probably using that for his case, and Hudson could have probably built a similar case around the change in offense along with Drevno being let go the prior year as well.

Reading between the lines on Harbaugh's commentary.  James Hudson maybe, probably is not really clinically depressed.  He just wanted to get out of Michigan and play immediately somewhere else.  I have a close family member who is battling the miseries of clinical depression.  And it sucks to no end.

I think it was pretty telling listening to his mom describe it. She is in the mental health profession and said she had a meeting with Jim staying what are we going to do about James, he is down and dis heartened. She then said Jim asked James if he wants to transfer.

Why would she not say clinically depressed? I think it's because the context of the meeting was about were James fit on the team, and depth chart.

im so sick of this story. The NCAA was handing out waivers left and right so when they deny eligibility its a huge deal when it should be the other way around.

Also Harbaugh's and Michigan's opinion shouldnt have had an impact on the decision. It would be ignorant to think schools wouldnt suggest players play the "depression" card AKA "homesickness" as it is typically reported. Its also believable if Hudson was experiencing depression that he didnt say anything at Michigan. What Im getting at is that this is an NCAA problem not a Jim Harbaugh or James Hudson problem.
