Open Practice Observations

Not a whole lot so far, just going through drills.

I can confirm that Dwumfour is practicing with the D line. He hasn't done every drill, but he has done most of them. Appears to be moving very well.

Figure I would create this and anyone else that is here can add their observations also.

funny you should ask.  they see the cards as a form of oppression because they have cloven hooves and cannot hold the cards.  however, if you include a picture of lamb as one of the play choices/indicators, they approve.

Chris Evans is getting a hearing in May.  Praying for his second chance.  Good kid that deserves some slack if appropriate.

I hope the University makes the right decision to preserve some level of academic/institutional integrity.

If that means he is back, excellent, but if not, we will survive and best of luck to a kid who is by all accounts a good guy but made a few poor decisions.

QB 7 on 7’s definitely went to McCaffery. Our back up situation is in very good hands. He hit three different receivers for TD’s.

It seemed more intense than prior 'practices/Spring Games' that I've seen in person (maybe I was wishful thinking).

Dline was intense, yet seemed to be having fun (as much as you can in drills).

Nua seems an upgrade, as I was near row 70 and I could hear him barking out items yet, laughing with the guys and encouraging them thru the drills.  Hopefully, we see strength on Dline this fall... Onwenu should have Dline "spirit" award and he slapped the dummies and jammed the sled with more aggression than the other dudes.  Bench was with Dline and seemed to tear thru drills like a machine.  Kemp seemed to want to tear the dummy on the sled off at one point.

QB's running in a circle and throwing on the run both directions, showed a drill designed to build some muscle memory on difficult throws.  Harbaugh was doing this drill himself for fun at the 40 yd line messing around as well.  QB's looked pretty accurate on most throws thru drills, at one point they were on the backline trying to throw and hit the side of the upright facing them, Patterson hit, Milton missed twice, McCaffery hit.  Milton seemed to throw effortlessly for over 60 yards.

DB's were running with their man watching feet and literally 'stopping on a dime'.  Seemed as if the focus here was on precision of footwork.

Again, maybe wishing on my part - however, it felt faster and more intense....and drills were built for speed.

Poorly worded on my part for sure.

Harb was 'playing catch' with a student trainer or maybe Jay Harb, I couldn't tell.

Whomever it was, near the 40 yard line running in a circle and throwing while on the run.

The QB's did the same drill after Harbaugh - - Harbaugh seemed to spend the entire time with QB's thru all drills.

This probably went unnoticed, but Punter Brad Robbins was MIA according to Rivals. I haven’t heard a thing on that front. So, that is something to watch.

I was not overly impressed with Cade McNamara as a recruit, thought his ceiling looked good not great. He changed my mind today. I wouldn't be surprised if he passed Milton. He also made the best pass of the day during the passing scrimmage.

Milton will drop his arm level when throwing from different angles, especially when on the run. This will likely cause some passes to be alarmingly off the mark in game action. Same old crazy laser rocket arm though. Still concerned he is an athlete playing QB (ex Denard) rather than a QB who is also an athlete (ex Steve Young).

Shea looks like he takes bad reps personally and I Iove it. I think that's good in a leader. Couldn't tell for sure but looked like he won an accuracy drill throwing the ball thru the uprights from a near perpendicular angle. Shea and Dylan are an excellent 1-2 at QB.

Sainristil is hands down the quickest and shiftiest WR we have. If we don't see much speed in space this year it might be lack of necessary speed athletes to do so. Be excited about Sainristil though.

Hard to say from the stands but I think Owenu is in a little better shape. Those reports are likely accurate.

Barrett is a thicker build than I thought. Dude looks solid. Still wish he was at RB, would probably be top 3 in depth chart. He caught punts with Bell, Martin, and Sainristil.

D-line observations

Kemp, Hutchinson, Paye, Jeter and Dwumfor looked the best in drills. Uche, Villian and Welschof had flashes, but were not consistent with technique. Smith and Ojabu look like freshman, although I found myself watching Ojabu a lot, intriguing. Paea looked lost at times and did not take to coaching as well.
