OUCH! Someone ran out of Dilly bars and is real cranky....
Dilly, Dilly!
February 19th, 2019 at 9:09 PM ^
Tracy Claeys?
February 19th, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
Minnesota headset technician, Dan Lehman (aka "Dilly Bar Dan")?
February 19th, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
I prefer to think that was Claeys under an assumed name.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
Magnus, I know, but why let facts get in the way of a good joke, this is the internet after all.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:36 PM ^
It's also not Tracy Claeys.
On the other hand, in both your defense and Magnus's defense, if Tracy Claeys and Jerry Kill ever had a "love child"...
February 19th, 2019 at 9:54 PM ^
Who’s to say they didn’t?
February 20th, 2019 at 9:36 AM ^
Unspeakable things can happen in the long, cold, hard winters of Minnesota.
February 20th, 2019 at 7:42 AM ^
I was joking that Tracy Claeys ran out of Dilly bars...you know...because Tracy Claeys looks like he eats a lot of Dilly bars...and also I don't like Tracy Claeys...
February 19th, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
Oh, snap!
February 20th, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
"It's never too cold for a Dilly Bar!" -Dilly Bar Dan
February 19th, 2019 at 9:08 PM ^
How would he know?! Has he ever been in a lockerroom and coached alongside Fleck?!
February 19th, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Yes he coached with Fleck at NIU.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:32 PM ^
Ohhhhhh!!! Snap. Did not know that.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:35 AM ^
I think that's the main issue. It's one thing for a stranger to come in, clean out the previous coaching staff, and talk about changing the culture. It's another thing entirely when it's a guy you worked with before. I think Kill was expecting Fleck, who after all was a member of his coaching tree, to be a little nicer when dealing with Claeys and his staff, who were also members of the Kill tree.
And it's not even like things were bad when Fleck arrived. They had gone 9-4 the previous year. But he and the AD acted like they were building the program up from nothing. If Fleck wins, I suppose none of this matters to anyone other than Kill and Claeys, but I can understand why the previous staff was not happy about the way things went down.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
Things actually were kind of bad when Fleck arrived. Not Penn State bad or anything of that magnitude, but they had that big sexual assault situation with ~ 10 of their football players and then Claeys voiced his support in the remaining players threatening to boycott the Holiday Bowl in supporting those players. Not saying he was right or wrong either way in his actions, but in the #metoo era, taking an action like that threatening career suicide.
So no, Fleck was by no means walking into a smoldering crater like Bill O'Brien did in Happy Valley, but it was a pleasant situation he was walking into, either.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
^^ This. Fleck was brought in precisely to clean house in the wake of that stuff. For Jerry Kill to be so butthurt about it says much more about Kill than Fleck.
February 20th, 2019 at 3:51 PM ^
It appears Jerry is not a fan of PJ, oar not.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:31 PM ^
Yes, he has. Fleck was the WR coach at NIU when Kill was the HC.
February 20th, 2019 at 11:25 AM ^
Kill created a monster!
February 20th, 2019 at 2:20 PM ^
a boat rowing monster!
February 20th, 2019 at 8:26 AM ^
If you listened to the interview you would know fleck coached under him. He’s just disappointed in how fleck has treated the situation, and while I probably wouldn’t have said it publicly if I was him, I can understand where he is coming from.
February 20th, 2019 at 11:50 AM ^
i don't think you need to have been in a locker room with p.j. fleck to know that he's a rah-rah bullshit artist that's in it for one person only, and that's p.j. fleck.
seems pretty obvious to me.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
The guy paid to keep his slogan... think about that. IIRC he owns the rights to it personally.
So yeah, it's about him.
February 20th, 2019 at 5:12 PM ^
He also claimed to take a major pay cut to go to Minnesota where he's getting $18.5M/5 yrs plus a lot of bonuses.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:09 PM ^
This is the most unprofessional and refreshingly raw bitter Twitter in a while
February 20th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
I always felt a little sorry for Kill because of his health issues and thought he was a decent guy, but what good is he doing for the team and/or university by coming out and basically bashing the current head coach?
I always find it amusing when a former coach or player comes out a good time later after they have left the program and spews negativity. It is usually never a good look nor productive even if they mean well.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:11 PM ^
He always kind of came off as a prick. I don’t know him personally obviously. He’s probably nice and would be very polite in person, but he comes off as an ego guy.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:16 PM ^
Which guy?
February 19th, 2019 at 11:21 PM ^
Take your pick!
February 20th, 2019 at 12:22 AM ^
Of the pricks.
February 20th, 2019 at 10:53 AM ^
Prickly Picker picked a peck of pickled pricks
February 19th, 2019 at 9:11 PM ^
I always liked Jerry Kill and rooted for him through his health problems. But I don't think Fleck is wrong that there was a culture problem when he came in. There were 10 students accused of sexual assault when he was hired and Tracy Claeys was fired because of that. Fleck is a bit of an asshat on the field though.
February 19th, 2019 at 11:04 PM ^
Claeys was railroaded by the AD.
February 19th, 2019 at 11:57 PM ^
Claeys was also not leading the team anywhere but down. I didn’t disagree with the AD taking care of that problem proactively.
February 20th, 2019 at 10:07 AM ^
Leading the team anywhere but down?
In literally the past 100 years of Minnesota football, there has only been one season (2003) better than Claeys'.
He also dramatically improved WSU's defense.
The guy can coach
February 20th, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
Got to agree with HP here. Minnesota AD didn't handle things well a couple years ago, and they lost a good head coach.
February 20th, 2019 at 7:25 AM ^
You mean the case where none of the players were ever charged, and ended up suing the University for civil rights violations and mishandling of the case?
February 19th, 2019 at 9:14 PM ^
I know Kill had the health issues so we're supposed to pull for the guy. But . . . his teams were dirty headhunters.
February 20th, 2019 at 8:04 AM ^
Yes. Both Claeys and Kill are assholes. That defense repeatedly headhunted, and not just against Michigan. That’s Claeys D and he is a POS for encouraging that. Kill sucks ass for hiring Claeys in the first place. Special place in hell for both of them.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
I was scrolling through the comments to make sure someone made this point.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:22 PM ^
Get off Jerry’s lawn! Or he’s right. I don’t know...
February 20th, 2019 at 8:38 AM ^
Sorry, Jerry. You vacated the house years ago. You don't have rights to come back and visit and comment on the new tenant.
February 20th, 2019 at 8:40 AM ^
That said, I do agree that Fleck is pretty much a douchebag. Just very unseemly for Kill to go public in this manner.
February 19th, 2019 at 9:23 PM ^
Now that Pep is gone, little PJ is probably the biggest fraud in college football
February 19th, 2019 at 11:19 PM ^
Dude, he won 13 games in 2016. At Western. He won 20 of 22 from mid-2015 to the end of 2016.
You don’t luck or fraud your way into that, especially at WMU.
He might not be a great coach but he isn’t a bad one either.
February 20th, 2019 at 6:30 AM ^
Brady Hoke won big in the MAC. The MAC is high school level football
February 20th, 2019 at 7:10 AM ^
Brady Hoke did not win "big" in the MAC.
