Semi-OT: UM offeree Braden Smith benches 515 lbs. for 3 reps
Now, perhaps he had a little help from the kid in the middle, but still, that is one incredible lift. And no bad weight on him by the looks of it.
PS - first attempt at a video embed, so I'm hoping for the best. If I failed, here is the regular old link: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highschool-prep-rally/uncommitted-four-star-football-recruit-bench-presses-515-163605665.html

I wish I could bench half that weight. Ridiculous.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:23 PM ^
half? i'd take a third! i don't even weight 150.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:37 PM ^
What kind of man weighs less than 150? I don't care if you're 5'4" or in a wheelchair. You need to drink more beer, eat more sausage, and watch more TV.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:54 PM ^
...I think he's totally serious.
January 23rd, 2014 at 1:09 PM ^
A lightweight wrestler?

January 23rd, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
this guy is a shade south of 150, so i guess to answer your question the kind that could kill you with his hands in probally under 5 minutes.

January 23rd, 2014 at 4:47 PM ^
Looks like a wimp to me. Not enough belly. And what about neck muscles? Really tough guys have necks that are wider than their head.
January 23rd, 2014 at 11:30 PM ^
That's not saying much. I can kill all of you with my hands in under 5 minutes.
All.
Of.
U.
January 23rd, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
Just saying.
January 23rd, 2014 at 3:11 PM ^
None of the MGoBlogerati are such, I wager.
January 23rd, 2014 at 5:09 PM ^
Don't you know that everyone on here benches 500 and has mastered seven different martial arts?
January 23rd, 2014 at 4:39 PM ^
To be fair, when I am in marathon shape I can almost get to 150 lbs, and I'm usually 165lbs at 6'. Of course, I'm not super Swoll or anything, but it isn't THAT hard to be around 150 lbs if you are us lighter guys.
January 23rd, 2014 at 5:49 PM ^
Your 6 ft and close to 150 lbs ? Well considering a 5'4 person in a wheelchair, who has a severe flu after he just traveled across Africa should still weigh 150lbs then you have some problems.
/S
January 23rd, 2014 at 9:56 PM ^
I'm close to 150lbs when I'm in marathon shape; haven't been close to that recently, though I'm usually around 160-165. Just because the average American man is probably a bit overweight doesn't mean those numbers are off.
And yes, I see the massive /s. I just get a kick out of this discussion.
January 23rd, 2014 at 11:55 AM ^
Dude in the middle didn't help at all, look at his forearms while he's spotting. A friend of mine who's about the same size as this kid does 550, it's insane to see.
January 23rd, 2014 at 11:59 AM ^
Yeah I couldn't really tell for sure, but I know when I used to lift heavy (heavy for me, that is), or when I'd spot heavy lifters, even just a little help would make a fairly significant difference. If nothing else, it helps psychologically.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:09 PM ^
"IT'S ALL YOU, BRO! I'M NOT EVEN TOUCHING IT!"
January 23rd, 2014 at 11:58 AM ^
Probably has short arms, do not want.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
This guy still hasn't selected a school the last I knew.
Was one I wish they pursued harder.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:19 PM ^
Likely headed to TCU to join his sister (no info on how much weight she can bench).
January 23rd, 2014 at 1:00 PM ^
I think that if we encourage her to workout harder, if she can lift more than him then he will probably not want to attend school where she does. Thus, increases Michigan's chances of landing him.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
Wouldn't trust that guy on left, looks like me in my fleshy years. I know what I was capable of.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:17 PM ^
I could do that, hold my beer

heard before most car and/or airplane accidents: "Watch this..."
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:28 PM ^
Is his butt hole still intact?
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:32 PM ^
You're suspect.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:33 PM ^
I'd guess none of us are experts on that, but I ASSume that you'd have heard about it if it wasn't, ahem, intact...
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:53 PM ^
I've had some rough moments at the gym that lead me to think about that area of my body when considering that much weight pressing down upon me. That is some serious weight for a teenager.
January 23rd, 2014 at 2:11 PM ^
January 23rd, 2014 at 1:03 PM ^
but having successfully completed the lift, I'd say that he'll end up much stronger in the END.
January 23rd, 2014 at 1:43 PM ^
..there is this pretty bad picture of this olympic squat attempt...and...
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:35 PM ^
What a showoff.
When I squat 1,250 pounds, I don't go posting it on Youtube.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:54 PM ^
Now we know you have no pooper.
January 23rd, 2014 at 1:15 PM ^
Yes, we know lifters sometimes pink-sock themselves, but that only happens if you don't push properly.
Hint: don't do Valsalva maneuvers and try to pull your taint and bellybutton together when you push instead of trying to take a shit while you lift.
January 23rd, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
I have a very nice pooper, thank you very much. At least that's what my priest told me.
January 23rd, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
Horrifying.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:46 PM ^
Wish we could pull him into our recruiting class somehow. But I might as well wish for a toilet seat made of gold.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:47 PM ^
I could throw a football a quarter mile.
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:47 PM ^
and did not remain in contact with the bench throughout the lift, does not count /S
January 23rd, 2014 at 2:53 PM ^
Ya, What a Pussy
January 23rd, 2014 at 1:04 PM ^
arching your back. Coach Belien knows you don't want to go through any back surgery.
Edit I just wanted to talk about the back after all that bunghole talk earlier.
January 23rd, 2014 at 1:14 PM ^
You actually want to arch your back like that as long as your butt remains planted on the bench. That's how you get leg drive in the lift. The real danger is pushing into the bench with your head or neck instead of your shoulder blades.
