Chance are small but are much better with Nuss's hiring.

JFC, that's the worst sort of comparison for a Wolverine who's about to start his career. Wash your mouth out with soap, young man.

Maybe it's because you're old enough to remember that once upon a time, Scott Mitchell was regarded by many Lions fans the same way that Matt Stafford is regarded by many now: as the young gun-slingin' QB who was going to take the Lions to the Super Bowl.
The Lions had Mitchell, multiple-Pro Bowl/All-Pro WR Herman Moore, multiple multiple-Pro Bowl/All-Pro OL Lomas Brown, and of course Barry Sanders. Though the Lions did make the playoffs several times, they never could get over the hump.

19 is always Bernie Kosar to me...I am excited to see Wilton over the next few years..I like where he is at this age
January 12th, 2014 at 9:32 PM ^
As I recall, #19 is rather Remy Hamilton in the annals of Michigan football, and although he wasn't a QB, that puts Speight certainly in good historic company, I would think. I would agree though, Speight is one of the incoming recruits that I am most interested in seeing from a developmental standpoint and especially now with the prospect of some time under Doug Nussmeier.

The only 46 that pops into my head is Lawrence Ricks, and that's jumping into the Waback Machine. I would assume there are other more familiar, recent names but Ricks came to mind.

Josh Furman (14) won't be returning for his 5th year?

January 12th, 2014 at 7:54 PM ^
This crossed my mind too, but as long as they aren't on the field at the same time they can have the same number. With Furman a safety and Harris a WR, this pretty much just rules out seeing them on the same special teams unit.
January 12th, 2014 at 8:01 PM ^
I could see them not bringing Furman back, tohugh. I mean, I could see Harris doing ST coverage and such, which Furman usually did.
January 12th, 2014 at 8:13 PM ^
Agreed, and the next time that I feel comfortable seeing Furman in our defensive backfield would be the first, but we have serious questions at safety next year and Furman is one guy who has played a decent amount of football here. I'd be happier with him on our roster than off of it.

I would hope that the young guys would fill the two-deep by next year, but I would wait for that to actually happen, not just hope for it. He thought to be the best available for the OSU game.
January 12th, 2014 at 11:36 PM ^
And I'd still take an inexperienced Dymonte Thomas or Delano Hill at SS over Furman.

I'm looking at our depth chart by class. Good God, our WRs. The players with the most time in the program are Chesson and Darboh as RS Sophs. Same with the tackles. Magnuson and Braden are now the leaders of the tackles.
WR, OT, and DT have no upperclassmen going into next year.
January 12th, 2014 at 8:11 PM ^
"Great moments are born from great opportunities." Here's hoping we have enough tickets in the OL/WR lottery that we get our share of winners.
January 12th, 2014 at 8:13 PM ^
Well I think you can count Funchess as a WR, and what about Pipkins? Also, is there really a difference between a RS Soph and a junior? Three years is three years regardless of whether they are technically upperclassmen.
