C-Webb/Jalen Rose relationship damaged: Fab Five reunion, banner raising hopes look bleak
Didn't see this posted anywhere on here and suprised it went unnoticed.
Jalen explains how Chris Webber has been dissing him. How Chris isn't happy about Jalen calling him out to show up at the National Championship Game in April. And how Jalen isn't happy that Chris didn't participate in the Fab Five documentary.
It looks like the possibilities of a complete Fab Five reunion/honoring/banner re-raising aren't likely, anytime soon at least. So far the only player of the 3 whose bans have talked about coming back was Maurice Taylor. Anyone know where Bullock is? (RIP Traylor)

They made it to 2 consecutive NCAA tournament finals. Once as true freshmen, the next as true sophomores. Even to the haters out there that should be very impressive. There's nothing to be clowded, they were that damn good, period.

I was in 6th and 7th grade those years. It was pretty awesome.
One thing people never really mention too much is the bond and the chemistry that team had. I can't think of one time I watched them and recognized any personal egos coming into play. It was just one magnificently gargantuan team ego. When they lost, they lost as a team; when they won, they won together; and they had each other's backs and celebrated each other's success.
I could care less what the record books say -- I know what I watched: transcendence. Text in a record book wouldn't do it justice anyway.

This, so much.

team about what you just said. I watched them too and I'd say personal ego's definitely came into play. I contend if this talented team really did play with teamwork and without ego's they would have won at least ONE championship of some sort.

I hope a day will come where we celebrate Trey Burke and the 2013 players and staff like we do the Fab Five.

The 1989 team did one better than the 2013 team--they won the national championship.
The average fan can't name the starting lineup for that team. But anyone who has watched college basketball for a long time can name the 1992 & 1993 Michigan starting lineup.
November 20th, 2013 at 11:30 PM ^
It's a shame, because I actually believe the '89 team would beat the '93 year.
November 20th, 2013 at 11:04 PM ^
hearing about Jalen saying C-Webb said he'd be in the documentary at first and then backed out.
Also, can we just stop talking about the banners going back up or not. They are never going back up. That would look absolutely foolish of Michigan if they were to put them back up. They are never going back up no matter who is the president or AD.
November 20th, 2013 at 11:08 PM ^
Well, I can think of at least five people that just need to go on to an elite career in academic administration and get the top job in Ann Arbor to raise the banners.

Personally, I think they would look absolutely pristine up there. The Fab Five -- what a team that was!

The guy wants no part in being affiliated with this University. Its sad, but I partially can't blame him. All he will ever be known for is a scandal that decimated our program for over a decade, and costing his team a national championship on one of the biggest blunders in college basketball history. That'd be a legacy I probably wouldn't want any part of, either.
November 21st, 2013 at 1:16 PM ^
I do think, deep down, Chris has a connection to the school. But there's just so much baggage there.

I'm not really a fashion guy, but do we now wear ties with button up long sleeve polos? What's up with that?
Then again, coming from a guy that thinks the mobster look shows you have won at life, coupled with that suit he wore on draft day, maybe that's expected.
I love the Fab 5 though, Jalen most of all. I can't talk about clothes anymore.
November 20th, 2013 at 11:21 PM ^
That's not a long sleeve polo, it's a button up/dress shirt without a jacket. I'd lose the tie or add a jacket, but that's just me.

With just 3 buttons?

obscure thing I noticed. 3:16 mark, look at the logo on the glass on the left side. It was mentioned here and posted on sportslogos.net several years ago.
Just surprised to see it there.

Espana. He plays basketball over there.
@WolverinesMike I'd like to return 1 day to show my kids where I went to college. Despite everything, it was still a great moment in my life.

In early 2012, I tweeted him asking if would ever consider coming back to Michigan when the ban was lifted.

like he showed up but it felt all wrong. You could tell it was forced. You saw CWebb show up, drunk and reluctant then never saw him again. Then you saw the other four hanging out near the Michigan bench. It was obviously forced (unfortunately)
November 21st, 2013 at 1:37 AM ^
I just find it sad that they overshadow the '89 team.

This. I find it totally bizarre that a team that never won anything is more talked-about than a team that won Michigan its only national championship.

But... The black socks! The bald heads! The baggy shorts! The epoch-making style!
November 21st, 2013 at 5:32 PM ^
but the Fab 5 are emblematic and awesome.
November 21st, 2013 at 3:47 PM ^
As freshmen and sophomores.
Do you think last year's basketball didn't win anything?
And while yes, they did beat mighty Seton Hall instead of Duke or NC in the final, they had the same coach that got us into trouble, a lot of the same shadiness over the program under Frieder, and the guy who hit the game winning shots who not only admits to also taking money, but has done a lot worse things than any of the Fab Five did.
I think we just don't want to shine the light too bright on them because we won't like what it shows about our squad that DID win it all.
November 21st, 2013 at 2:46 AM ^
Webber is the POS who made it cool for everyone else to take Ed Martin's money. He is personally responsible for the situation that allowed Tom Izzo to take advantage of Michigan's troubles to become a legend in EL.
Worse yet, there has never been a mea culpa or anything resembling contrition from Webber. He can take a flying "leap" through a rolling doughnut AFAIC.

I wouldnt have liked being called out on national TV so I can understand CWebb's reaction. But I would have liked it if the Fab Five were together during the Final. Come on CWebb!! Let bygones be bygones. I want a Fab Five Reunion when we raise the National Championship banner this year.

Very interesting video. I didn't realize there was a rift between C-Webb and Jalen...I just figured it was C-Webb and M.
November 21st, 2013 at 10:13 AM ^
Webber is arguably the greatest player here in the shot clock era.
Glen Rice. End of argument.
November 21st, 2013 at 10:46 AM ^
Not even a question.
November 21st, 2013 at 1:37 PM ^
Glen is arguably one of the best shooters to ever play the game. He had the greatest 6 game tourny stretch of anyone ever, and he won a National Championship, MOP, NBA Championship, All star game mvp+all star game records, 3pt champ. He is by far the best to lace em up here at Michigan. C-Webb was a great player and a great power forward, but I would take Glen any day of the week over him, and I would take the 89 team in a heartbeat over the fab five teams. I think C-Webb and Howard vs Vaught and Mills would be a great matchup, Glen vs Ray Jackson, sorry fab five fans but Glen would obliterate Ray. Higgins would be able to control a very streaky Jimmy King, and Rumeal vs Jalen would be a wash. In college, Jalen was good but he had a very inconsistent jump shot and could not really shoot the three. Jalen didn't reach his full potential until the late 90's with the Pacers, where he was awesome.
To me, the 89 team doesn't get the true love that they deserve, and they are my favorite team besides last years team in my history of watching UM hoops.
BTW, youtube has some great vintage video of Glen Rice's 56 point outing in 1995 when he was with the Heat. Plus they have game film from 1997 when he was with the Hornets. Anyone who wants to see some of the finest shooting performances ever, just youtube that stuff.

Has POSU been forced to disassociate from Terrelle Pryor? What he did was WAY worse than what Webber did.
The fact is, people who value "tradition" and "duke-like" basketball were looking for reasons to hate the Fab Five forever. Let it go. The guy had an All Star career and is a talented and well-spoken analyst on T.V. I, for one, and am proud to be an alumnus of the same school as Chris Webber.
November 21st, 2013 at 1:35 PM ^
I could care less about Webber or the Fab Five, but putting aside my biases, I could see how Webber might be upset that Rose took to discussing their relationship in the media instead of having a heart-to-heart with Webber out of the public eye.
