Hockey: #10 Michigan beats #4 BC 3-1
Edit: Since this became the game thread, Michigan just beat #4 BC 3-1 at home. Gigantic win this early for such a young team. Your outlook on the season should change accordingly
I thought I'd post some links for previews and such for the BC-Michigan game today as this is likely Michigan's biggest non-conference home game since...#7 BC lost to #5 Michigan 3-2 in 2005?
Also, even with all the TV coverage this year, somehow this game is relegated to Comcast channel 9e6 (or something) and that only. How the BTN, CBS Sports, NBCSN, and Fox Sports all managed to pass on this is beyond me.
From Western College Hockey SBN College Hockey:
Escalating ticket prices and a resurgent basketball program have taken a big bite out of the vaunted atmosphere at Yost Arena in recent years, but with the excitement of a new season and the buzz of a nationally-known opponent in the building, it should be rocking tonight, and could put a very young Boston College team on their heels.
From Maize & Brew:
The game being at Yost means Michigan will come out hard, but if you can't beat Waterloo, BC is a different eagle all together. BC 5, Michigan 2.
Based on this quote it looks BCInterruption will have something up today that they worked with MGoBlog on. Edit: It's up. You may not care not that the game has started but a good read
From the Daily
Personally, I don't feel too great about this game. BC is likely loaded and we are reloading. Like M&B, I envision a 5-2 type game as well. If you're free tonight, find a ticket and go be loud at Yost. Goal horn be damned

Kind of like Chad Johnson - Ochocino. Duane Johnson is the Rock. Brian is MGOBLOG.

Is it just me or is hockey the longest season ever? I go to a game a year or so and the last one I was at, we were excited b/c spring was in the air. We are still hanging on to summer right now fergodsakes!

At least among the more prominent varsity sports, I believe that it is - this is an approximation based on memory, of course, but the span of the hockey season typically seems to best the span of the basketball season about about 3-4 weeks at Michigan historically, but both seem like they go on for a long time.
So, I suppose my answer really is, "It's not just you."

I guess BBall season is long too, seeing as we will be in Crisler in a few weeks. I guess it is a good thing. The Tigers and freakin awesome Michigan weather carry us from May until Sept. Have to love where you live and it is truly a great state we live in.

And not just college. In high school (Illinois for me) the first day of tryouts was the first day of school (august). State playoffs mid March. It was over all 3 "seasons" of sports.

With the news of the ticket prices, the decreasing amout of students showing up and the bad taste of last season still in my mouth, I'm kind of depressed. Just make the tournament.
I just pray this opener goes better than last year.

Does anyone know of a live streaming link for those of us outside of Michigan?
October 10th, 2013 at 7:20 PM ^
PP GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!!
1-0 good guys
Moffatt!
October 10th, 2013 at 7:30 PM ^
You'd think they could set up a video stream or something...I mean we have the money.
October 10th, 2013 at 7:41 PM ^
Isn't that already available for some cash?

Racine making some big stops as BC keeps getting some odd-man and breakaway rushes.
October 10th, 2013 at 7:40 PM ^
End of the 1st, 1-0 M.
BC has 0:06 of PP carryover to the 2nd

It is a travesty. Still ime, the biggest non-conference game at Yost in 8 years and it's relegated to 500 TVs in Ann Arbor
October 10th, 2013 at 11:55 PM ^
Why werent you at the game if you were in AA.
October 10th, 2013 at 8:24 PM ^
Sounds like Racine almost let up the 2nd goal on a crazy out-of-net attempt. Fortunate BC did not capitalize
October 10th, 2013 at 8:30 PM ^
Sounds like we're actually holding up well against BC. Anyone there or watching on Comcast 9e6 that can confirm?

so the University of Waterloo is the modern equivalent of the Soviet National Team then?
October 10th, 2013 at 8:52 PM ^
For no reason. They had over 10 former chl players. We should have beat them but the loss wasn't as bad as people think
October 10th, 2013 at 11:57 PM ^
Also we played all 10 freshman in the class i believe (maybe 9). With more experience in the line up and intensity it makes sense we showed up for BC.
October 10th, 2013 at 8:47 PM ^
Moffatt with his 2nd goal (PPG)
3-1 early in the 3rd

Converted on 2-of-4 to this point
October 10th, 2013 at 9:10 PM ^
What are these power play goals you speak of?
October 10th, 2013 at 9:13 PM ^
Michigan still up 3-1. Sounds like BC is struggling a bit to get setup in the Michigan zone. KNOCK ON WOOD. SO MUCH KNOCKING
October 10th, 2013 at 9:14 PM ^
One minute remaining

Thank you.
October 10th, 2013 at 9:15 PM ^
Huuuuuge. 3-1 victory over #4 BC. That certainly changes the expectations for the season having such a young team beat probably the only team that's been more successful in the last 10 years than Michigan.
Go blue!

After all of the talk today, it seemed like the game would not be a sellout.
Not sure if it was statistically, but damn was that an electric atmosphere for a first game. Arena looked filled on TV. So did the student section.
THIS is what Michigan Hockey is. Just lose the goal horn so I don't have to guess where to join the band at in The Victors.
I didn't see Michigan winning this game but they played a pretty complete game. Won't be able to watch the game Saturday night since football is on at 5 and I don't have Time Warner Sports - New York. But hopefully Michigan goes to Blue Cross and humiliates RIT and storm into Durham.
October 10th, 2013 at 10:20 PM ^
the student section was packed. Both sideline sections were full. The North endzone and a bit of the south endzone had empty seats.
the student section was nuts tonight. Great atmosphere.
October 10th, 2013 at 10:27 PM ^
Last few times I've been to Yost that north section of the student section is always sparse. Maybe this win will be the shot in the arm the Yost atmosphere needed this year. Certainly builds a lot of home momentum early
October 10th, 2013 at 11:58 PM ^
Youre welcome
October 11th, 2013 at 3:41 PM ^
People in my section (6) were pretty quiet, which was disappointing
October 11th, 2013 at 2:09 AM ^
To be fair, you were perpetuating a lot of the "it won't be a sellout" talk.
