Thursday Football Open Thread

Submitted by maizeonblueaction on

Even though we do not play until Saturday, there finally is some actual football going on. Big games are South Carolina v. UNC, and USC v. Hawaii. In B1G action, Indiana plays Indiana State, and Minnesota plays UNLV.

I hate the turf that Minnesota has.  It reflects light horribly on TV.  I have noticed it at more and more stadiums every year.  Fire that turf manufacturer please.

UNC needs to get their shit together to make this a damned game. Get at least a field goal here, you get the ball first in third quarter, score again. Simple really.

EDIT: aaaaaaand wow, third and seven, 47 seconds left, you're near midfield, and you do a fucking draw. Way to even try, UNC.

Minnesota will be fine if they stop giving so much cushion defensively. They should wear UNLV down on O. Not fumbling handoffs would also help

UNLV is running about 2 plays for each one Minnesota runs on offense right now. The Gophers managed a shade over 40 yards in the first quarter though, so reasonably Big Ten.

..and then Nelson actually breaks off a run for a TD against the 106th-ranked rushing defense from last year. I can't even imagine how hard that would be.

I'd like to see Minnesota play well. They're a mixed bag right now but I really like Jerry Kill and they're a historic rival we won't see too often soon, so I hope they turn the program around, and maybe even become a western division contender eventually.

UNC vs So Carolina is back on and UNC is already moving the ball well. Outside of that first quarter I think North Carolina looks more consistent. ESPN's Clowney Cam has shown him with his hands on his hips almost all game.

Wow. Larry Fedora shows some balls going for it on 4th and 10....and then getting that 1st down. Of course, with that flash of brilliance, there's a foul and it is promptly 1st and 20.

Clowney isn't doing jack tonight.  That LT is holding his own and even the TE stoned him on the goal line play.  Lots of chatter about taking plays off, being tired, etc...  I hope this ends or quiets the Clowney Heisman talk.
