OT: Great Iowa State Throwbacks
Very cool Iowa State throwbacks released. They're wearing them against Iowa. Many teams wore this similar style of jersey in the 20s.
I wish Michigan would do something like this. Maybe even for one game only, go with a solid brown helmet to simulate the leather. Bennie Oosterbaan on the left at the Michigan Stadium Dedication game from 1927 against ohio.

It looks like someone photoshopped it!
Dont Mess With The HELMETZ
I still won't watch that game.
I end up eating way too many corn chips, corn dogs, and corn on the cob.
to throw back to.
One interesting thing this year about Cyclones football:
Iowa at Iowa State kickoff is at 5:00 p.m. CST this year.
Night game? I guess so.
...those throwbacks. Only thing that could improve them would be a throwback helmet design like the Redskins wore last year.
When I first saw those I thought it was just a brown helmet. I could only see the "leather" design in the close ups.
You're one of them self-punchers aren't you?
I actually really like those uniforms... they're sleek and look like a modernized version of the classic 20s garb. As long as it's not us, I really don't usually care much about alternate uniforms, but these are definitely on the plus side.
I want some of those 1920s giant flowers, or whatever they are...
I'm an ISU alum, and I'm a fan of those throwbacks. Their uniforms have come along way though. Current style has them looking like USC.
I also like the title of this thread; for some reason "Great Iowa State" has a nice ring to it. Maybe they should consider renaming themselves the Great Iowa State University.
THE Iowa State University
Boom, Bucknutted!
Looks like the uniform in my profile pic.
Being an ISU alum, I feel obligated to inform. These are throwbacks specifically tailored to a man named Jack Trice. Obviously, they play in Jack Trice stadium and it is the only D-1 stadium named after an African American. We are coming up on the 90th anniversary of his death which took place after a game in Minnesota. He was trampled by the MInnesota players and died days later from injuries sustained from that incident. It took 74 years to get his name on the stadium. I think the initial push was in the mid 70s but it never actually happened until 1997. We seem to like the uniforms as a fanbase but we did wish there wasn't the number rule because I think a gold small number like Michigan had would look better but the rules are the rules. I just thought I would jump in and give this some historical perspective. These aren't just for the hell of it and I think the University is really trying to push this because there is a significant story.
... the 2013 Steelers playing the 1933 Steelers. Great. Like some video game concept.
According to the Des Moines Register, the players are excited to wear these and to connect with ISU history (LINK). Quoting Paul Rhoads:
“The legend of Jack Trice is a critical piece of Iowa State football history,” Rhoads said. “His profound impact on our program resonates with our players today. This is a fitting tribute and our current football team is very excited to wear uniforms from that era.”
Supposedly, fans will be able to bid via eBay on game-worn jerseys - about 100 packages will be sold over the course of the month leading up to the game.

Rats. And here I clicked on this thread thinking that Iowa State had gotten their own Vincent Smith to run The Play That Always Works
