Michigan Offers Penn St. Commit, 2014 LB Jared Wangler
------------------------
(from Gordon Berenson who posted it first:
I think this link is ($) but Wiltfong over at 247 has reported that Jared Wangler was offered by Michigan today. I don't know what that means in the recruiting tea leaves but I assume it means some other LB/S prospects are becoming less likely or the staff sees another scholarship becoming available. Probably safe to assume he's going to flip and commit to Michigan soon.
What does this mean? Let's speculate.)
That's great and all, but how's his Tinder game?
I'd be shocked if he didn't flip. He's a Wangler fergodsakes.
I could be wrong but I think LSU was a preferred walk-on offer
I think you are wrong
I just remembered that he only had a PWO offer from LSU before he committed to PSU. I just now saw the Miles offered him after he was already committed.

Les Miles offered Jared personally, which is relatively rare. It was absolutely not a walk-on offer.
Coaches told him he'd be a SAM, along with Winovich. Our other two LBs are MIKEs
Didn't the coaches tell Winovich he would come in as a Mike?
I believe you're thinking of Furbush.
Wangler not quick enough to play WILL or MIKE?
I haven't watched his highlights since sometime in February, but I definitely didn't think he was quick enough to be a WILL. I'll have to watch it again now that he got offered, but I wasn't very impressed initially.

The anonymous supposed football coach at the youth level....
How original.
What pupose does that swipe serve? Magnus offered an opinion, and if you don't agree then disagree. Or even, perhaps, say nothing? What does it even matter if you believe he coaches or not, who cares?
A+ for your spelling and grammar.
That will teach me.
A bit of a bizarre offer. We don't need a LB, and he's really not a Big Ten caliber safety.
They've been recruiting a fourth linebacker for a while.
Oh. All right.
Wanna get some pizza?
You know the woman Jerry said that to is now playing Skylar on Breaking Bad. Kind of weird because Bryan Cranston was also on Seinfeld as Tim Whatley, the regifting dentist who converts to Judaism purely for the jokes.
Heard he's grown some recently so maybe they finally see him as a LB now.
Two star who committed to Penn State without visiting? Shall I trust Mattison / Hoke again on this one?

(Honest question, does he have some good intanglibles or what?)
Your point total sets my mind to MgoVillain, what a wonderful bastard he was.
Fair enough. Has a good LB face and almost a perfect LB name... I'd prefer it to be "Wrangler"... sounds a little more macho and 'Murrica, but I'll take Wangler.

Never made the connection. Why isn't it John Jr.? Goddamn better believe if I was a Michigan quarterback there'd be a little Herman Jr. in training.

he would not be a Jr.
Yes, but won't this hurt our chances with Kris Frost?

Honest question: His family is probably pretty well off; why doesn't he just offer to walk-on?
If you can get a full ride, why walk on? For the "good of the University"? That's mildly insulting and unfair to the Wangler family.
Scholarship players get way more benefits. It's like asking a wealthy person "give me 100K, you won't miss it."
What I'd like to see....
Ferns: MIKE
Ferbush and Winovich: SAM, with Ferbush moonlighting at DE
Wangler: WILL
Based on what I read and his size, but after watching his film I think SAM is the best position for him. Unfortunately, I think SAM is the best position for all Michigan's LBs too. Ferns could potentially play any of the three, we'll see if Furbush sticks at MIKE, I like him more as a SAM or DE personally, and I think Winovich is a SAM as you get.
This doesn't seem necessary to me. Aren't we in good position with Dwight Williams?
If you're a Lloyd Christmas fan, then yes. We've got a chance.

We are in position with Williams, but he's still a California kid with offers from all over the place. You can't exactly put all your eggs in the Dwight Williams basket.
In terms of whether he flips or not, I recall he flipped from Shrine HS to DeLasalle, so I guess it wouldn't be out of the question.
