OT: Red Wings @ Blackhawks Game 7 Open Thread

Submitted by goblueram on

The top-seeded Blackhawks have battled back from a 3-1 series defecit to force a decisive game 7 in Chicago.  This has been a great back-and-forth series, and is a fitting way to end the in-conference rivalry between these two great Original Six franchises.

Zetterberg and Datsyuk have come up huge when it has mattered most for the Wings, both this season and in years past.  Jimmy has been phenomenal in net this year, and he may have what it takes to steal this game in Quick-like fashion.  Toews seems to have found his game a little bit in the last few games (when he is not whining), and Crawford has been solid in net despite 1 bad goal.  This should be a nerve-racking affair.

8:00 p.m. ET - NBCSN, CBC

I'm heading off to the United Center shortly, and I'm hoping it will get quiet in there real quickly.

 LET'S GO RED WINGS

we had a good run ... I actually though through the first 3 we actually played slightly better .. exepting all our boneheaded turnovers.  still proud of the guys

Nice makeup with that bad missed elbow call

It's almost like one team had 77 points in 48 games and won the President's Trophy, and the other team managed to get hot at the right time to sneak into the playoffs despite having a .500 record all season

It's disappointing but to call this an "epic collapse" and "fucking pathetic" is just one of those "Post-loss GhostofYost Meltdowns (trademarked)".

This isn't the Maple Leafs blowing a 3 goal lead, this was the Wings luck finally running out, and all the makeshift patches finally giving

to the Wings for giving Chicago everything they wanted in this series. Proud of this Red Wings team for the effort they gave this season, the young guys will take alot of from this season.

I know some people will try and say the Wings choked, but it is easier said than done to close out a series when your facing a better team, and you have young guys who haven't quite learned how to close.

One thing is for sure the young guys showed they can play, and the Wings should be back to their usual standard in short order.

I think that Howard was better than Crawford, and that Detroit's stars held their own. If there was any difference, it was in two places:

  1. Chicago has more depth.
  2. Detroit misses some of its veteran defensemen.

Hats off to the Wings. They extended the Blackhawks to the bitter end, and gave it their all. It was a fitting end to series between the two teams. Now they won't face each other extensively unless they both make it to the Stanley Cup.

Build on this Wings as this was a solid playoff effort, and close to the regular season. That said, to hell with Bickell and Shaw specifically. Great series, but to blow a 3-1 lead leaves a bitter taste

Thank God we're moving to the east. I can't take the 10pm playoff starts. Chicago is the only team I ever enjoyed playing in the west - other than when we had the Colorado rivalry, which has been dead for about 9-10 years.

Hopefully we spend some serious money on the D and make plans to dump Smith, Quincy, and Franzen.  Absolutely awful play from all three of them.
