Dantonio: OC Dave Warner to call plays, Bollman to coach TEs, Narduzzi my future successor
Some more changes for Spartans 2013 offensive strategy.
And is Dantonio pursuing future endeavors elsewhere?
Warning: Links to Freep article.
Issues of Michigan's dominance and potential homerism aside, what makes you say that Dantonio wants to be in the SEC and that that's where he belongs? The guy strikes me as someone who is 100% committed to the Big10, and probably would want to stay in the midwest the rest of his career. He clearly loves OSU and MSU, loves to hate UM, and the farthest out his coaching experience has taken him from Michigan/Ohio is a couple of stints in Kansas.
Why would he want to go to (or belong in) the SEC?
Man, that ALWAYS works really, really well. Good job, Coach Dantonio! That's using your noggin.
Some of the most prolific college offenses use co-OCs. Now, do I think MSU will actually reach that plane?....
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. NO.
But still, it works at some places.
Do you have any examples off the top of your head of prolific offenses lead by co-OCs?
Not passive aggressively saying you're wrong. Just curious.
The ones that comes to mind are Oregon and Baylor. When Bollman was at OSU for that decade run, he was also a co-OC.
Even if Bollman will not have a hand in calling plays on offense, I have to think that this means that any hook or flat route will simply get whistled for delay of game given how slowly it will likely develop.
so Dantonio is about to leave in a year or two eh? Why else would he have a coach in waiting? not good for recruiting.
No... as recently as this very press conference he said he would be there for "years" longer. I don't know why he would name an assistant HC and I really don't care. Whatever their staff wants to do, whether or not it makes sense, I really don't care.
Each year I am more and more shocked that Narduzzi doesn't leave but I am basing a lot of his worth on their defenses of the last few years. Has he been offered any major HC jobs?
Not sure if he has been offered or not, but he interviewed for BC, Cincy (He was presumably their #1. Tuberville came out of nowhere), Colorado, and Cal this offseason.
My brain is a little fried, so am I missing something? Is the "Narduzzi my future successor" thing just based on this?:
Asked Monday on "The Drive with Jack" on WVFN-AM (730) in Lansing whether he would like Narduzzi to be MSU's head coach some day, Dantonio said: "That would be my hope."
"As I move forward, I'm gonna coach for a while," Dantonio said on the show, "but you always want to leave a legacy."
That doesn't sound like a definitive, AD-endorsed plan. It sounds like a coach's answer to a radio guy's question (a coach who likes and wants to keep his assistant).
Yes, that's what it was based on.
In that case, I would be surprised if Narduzzi ultimately wound up being Dantonio's successor. When Bo left Ohio to take the head job at Miami (NTM), Woody tried to talk him out of it, stating Bo was his successor and that he would only be coaching a few more years. Woody went on to coach for 17 more years. Narduzzi is 46, the sweet spot for stepping into the head coaching spot at a program, somebody is going to pull the captain's chair out for him soon enough.
So where's the threat?
There, Mark!
That's a sexy pic (no homo)
All I know is there is no doubt Narduzzi kneeled and kissed Dantonio's ring on the way out of that meeting.
Wants to leave before he has a losing record against Michigan.
Wow, he's going to leave within the next 3 years?
they will continue to mine 2 and 3 star recruits and develop into NFL elite. lol. They are trending down and the best recruits know it.
Honestly, MSU's best chance to beat Michigan in the near future was going to be this past season (failed) and this upcoming season. With Bell, Sims, and Gholston all bolting early for the NFL, 2013 is suddenly looking pretty dicey. If Sparty doesn't pull off a win this year, phew, it's going to be a tough road ahead. I see another 5-6 year losing streak which should definatively end all talk of Dantonio "closing the gap" on Michigan.
Looking at their 2013 schedule, I was shocked at how easy it looks. If they get ANYTHING going on offense this year, us and ND are the only things that make it look "dicey".
I disagree @ Northwestern and @ Nebraska looks to get "dicey" as well.
Don't see it ...
Waiting...
No schools have won a NC without a top 10 recruiting class. That shows how vital it is. Of course you need the coaching as well which I blieve Michigan has.
So Pat Narduzzi is the Dwight Schrutte of Michigan State Football?
Pat,
At 8 a.m. today, someone poisons the coffee. Do not drink the coffee. More instructions to follow.Sincerely, Future Pat
