OT: Friday POSBANG (MGoBloggers In Real Life edition)
Happy Posbangin' Friday, everyone! Time to do our civic duty (don't worry, it's nothing like jury duty) and upvote each poster to his/her full five. What better way to celebrate the weekend? This weekend's task for me is MacGuyvering some backpacking gear and making a few last-minute preparations for a hike.
Topics!
- What are your weekend plans?
- Any MGoBackpackers out there?
- Have you ever met an MGoBlogger in real life, or found out someone you know is an MGoBlogger?
- Favorite grilled cheese variants?
I've actually only ever met two MGoBloggers, one who posts occasionally on the board, one who doesn't. This is rather surprising, given my residence in the Mitten State. Have you ever run into someone, guiltily admitted your obsession with MGoBlog, and discovered they were a fellow MGoAddict?

you use the moderate button and choose a positive sounding one. When in doubt, just have the drop-down on normal and click moderate, that +1s their post. Redundant, Offtopic, Trolling, Flamebait, or Overrated results in a -1, but normal, insightful, informative, interesting, funny, or underrated will give it a +1.
Note - works in web browser only, not in mobile app if you're on that.

Now, if I could just edit my comment so that I am not calling of of you fine people "bloogers", which sounds like a good word for some other occasion.
February 22nd, 2013 at 11:32 AM ^
I think it's a programming feature on the site (and the mgoprogrammers can correct me if I'm wrong) that once your comment has been replied to, you can no longer edit it. I've noticed that before, I think it's to prevent people from editing something once it's been replied to, to prevent trolling or other forms of internet mischief.
I didn't even notice your typo until you pointed it out, FYI. I doubt anyone else did either.

1. Performing in the Kalamazoo Concert Band concert Saturday. (mgobandgeek). Running, working with my son on his try-out for his elementary school musical, and watching MBB against Illinois.
2. Nope not a backpacker. Running is my thing. Getting ready for the 5/3 25k in May and several 5k's this spring.
3. I've never met another Mgoblogger.
4. Well as a runner I like to save my calories for other stuff like Guiness and fish and chips, so I don't do much on the ol' Grill Cheese Front.
Have a great weekend everybody!

Does it count if you introduced the person to MGoBlog? The few Michigan fans I know here in Columbus all now read MGoBlog religiously - I don't think they make their way over to MGoBoard often. I know one of them gave up on rivals once they found out about MGoBlog.
February 22nd, 2013 at 10:15 AM ^
One of these days we should do a MGoMeetup for those of us stranded in Columbus.
February 22nd, 2013 at 10:36 AM ^
I think this would be an excellent idea come this fall on a saturday at a bar with lots of large TVs.
Then we could all sign onto the liveblog and not talk to each other. /s
I like the idea, seemed alot more feasible for me 3 weeks ago! Who knows, if someone else plans, I might try and bribe the wife into letting me go.

Weekend plans - Put a new blower motor resistor in my Jeep, pull the fenders off and paint them. Then watch Michigan pummel Illinois on Sunday.
MGoBackpacker- Not a back packer per say but definitely an MGoFisherman
MGoBlogger in real life- I never met an Mgoblogger in real life until I moved from Grand Rapids to Charleston. Surprisingly I met about 5 or 6 active MGoBloggers at the Michigan bar in Charleston. Great group of guys and gals, sadly I met them during this years iteration of The Game.
Grilled cheese- Cheddar on wheat with a bowl of tomato soup or chili.
Have a good weekend everyone. Go Blue!

XJ? I spend parts of my weekends working on an old jeep...
February 22nd, 2013 at 11:14 AM ^
I have a 2006 TJ with the 6 speed in it, 33s and 3.25 inch rough country lift. I work on it just about every weekend. I always have something going on, next up is bed lining the tub, cutting my fenders to flatties and trying to fabricate a roof rack. Love the XJs, all Jeeps in general except for the new JKs. Sure is easy to work on ye ole 4L inline 6.

I know Mr.Rager. I met him at a convention for rich guys who work on Wall Street, are super successful and get lots of pussy. It was a pretty rockin' time. He is every bit the douche that you think he is by the way.

2. No, but I'd love to try.
3. I met an mgoblogger at Gameday last year at under the lights. Nothing interesting happened. A few of my friends are fellow mgobloggers as well.
4. Cheddar, Pepper Jack and Bacon on white bread. Absolutely fantastic!
February 22nd, 2013 at 11:01 AM ^
you cannot fuck anything up by putting bacon on it

Was in Nashville the day of the MSU game this year. Found what bar had a Michigan fans viewing party and met a whole bunch of fellow mgoblogophiles, it was wonderful.

1) The MGoMrs had our first kid (a boy!) last week, so this weekend will likely be pretty tame and sleep-deprived. I'm already making plans with another M fan to start getting this boy indoctrinated into all things Michigan. First up, a viewing of Woodson's interception against MSU. Seemed like a good place to start. Hopefully he'll be in the class of 2020, likely a tackle or heady LB. (Div 3 OT here...but you always hope for better for your kids.)
2) I've not backpacked before.
3) I know one other - knew him already.
4) Velveeta on Wonder Bread, RIP. Now, American on wheat with turkey and some tabasco tossed in.

I knew I needed to make a list, and this is a pretty comprehensive start. It also really hit home that I'll need tell him about Denard - it'll be past tense for him a few years from how. Man, I'm going to miss that guy. "Why'd they call him 'Shoelace', Dad...?"

1. Probably a movie and hang with the wife.
2. Nope.
3. Not that I am aware of.
4. Plain grilled cheese with tomato soup.
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:17 AM ^
I'm bartending at a casino.
I like to hike, just don't get a chance to often.
Garlic.
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:23 AM ^
1. Moving washer/dryer hookups. Home improvments, it's what weekends are made of (winter edition).
2. I own three backpacks and a pile of daypacks (plus about 14 fly rods and five watercraft of various kinds). I've been averaging about 100+ days a year in Rocky Mtn NP in recent years, though most of that is working and not as many are overnights as once used to be.
3. Not that I know of. No one has ever offered the secret handshake anyway.
4. Fav grilled cheese: double cheese and with the kid.
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:23 AM ^
- Skiing (back-country in the front range of CO)
- Yes, though we're outside of my typical backpacker season.
- Yes, we were friends/family before that.
- Grilled cheese with pesto and marinated portobello mushrooms. The cheese ends up being anything but American or Chedder.
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:31 AM ^
Depending on where you are on the Front Range, should be decent this weekend, at least for this lame winter. All the snow was south of Lyons.
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:27 AM ^
So, I'll be thinking probably too much about how I wish I didn't need to return to work on Monday.
I met an mgoblogger at a tailgate once. He gave me a homebrew that his son had made. Needless to say, I thought he was pretty cool.
As far as "grilled cheese" variant, I heart all things that include cheese regardless of temperature. There really is no wrong way to consume cheese. I guess the only way to make it better is to include a meat with it.

1. Going to my first MBB game of the year on Sunday with my wife and two sons!
2. What were the other questions again?
2. Oh yes....no I'm not. Strictly a city guy
3. Yes - met several - spent an afternoon with MGoSoftball and his lovely wife the day before the Sugar Bowl last year.
4. Whte bread buttered on both sides, Kraft singles and a pile of thousand Island dressing to dunk it in. Mmmmmm....yummy carbs.
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:30 AM ^
at least they did something this offseason. Now, they might have a wind farm on their hands with Reynolds, Stubbs, Bourne and Swisher, but thats ok, because there are 3 or 4 wind turbines along I-90, and they're going to need to power them somehow.
No big plans for the weekend. Making a day trip from Columbus to Cleveland.
I have not met any MGoBloggers in real life. I wear my Muppets shirt proudly around Columbus, but have yet to be approached by anyone who knows what it is.
Favorite grilled cheese? Muenster

If Kevin Keane still had his show, could you imagine the outrage of the "bunting people"?

- All alone this weekend as my wife-to-be is travelling to Ann Arbor to interview for the MBA program. I figure tonight I'll order a bunch of food she doesn't like, spend 72 minutes thinking it's awesome to have freedom again, and then be bored until she gets back on Sunday.
- Not since my scouting days.
- I know my friends are on here but we don't share usernames.
- Cheese with bacon & avocado.

1) watching the world ice over
2) but not in this weather, day hikes here and there
3) nope, thankfully. in my imagination you are all as cool as i am, if not more
4) sour dough, cheddar, bacon, dill pickle, dijon - thanks Martha!
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:46 AM ^
1. Weekend plans - probably re-playing The Witcher 2 now that I've pretty comprehensively finished Arkham City. Working on a Magic deck idea. Truly, my life is the pinnacle to which all aspire.
2. Not a backpacker, especially not this time of the year, but I wouldn't be adverse to trying that out
3. Never met any MGoBloggers that I know of, but I am a high school friend of Vijay from I Blog for Cookies.
4. Favorite grilled cheese variant - probably a torta from Los Gauchos? (Columbus is, if nothing else, a very underrated food town.)
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:47 AM ^
1) Play some BBall, watch TV, friend is having a fish fry, and do homework.
2) Never backpacked.
3) Friends with GoBlueRitzy and TheWhiteTiger16. Have met HartAttack20. Saw Brian at last years CCHA title game but didn't say anything to him. Some drunk guy was threating to fight him though and got kicked out.
4) Grillled Chese BLT.
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:48 AM ^
1. Don't have too many weekend plans, hopefully I'll be able to play some xbox (NBA 2K13, FIFA, COD, Halo, basically whatever it is my friends are playing). Working the basketball game Sunday, so hopefully that has a great result.
2.While I haven't ever been backpacking, I do enjoy camping with friends. While it certainly isn't comparable, it's as close as I'll get haha. Maybe one day I'll take a chance and go hiking, but I'm so busy with school and work right now that I hardly have a second to breathe.
3. In classes at Michigan I see people on the blog all the time. A couple of my buddies are on here in every class, just like I am.
4. I second the above notion, dip a grilled cheese in to tomato soup and you have perfection.
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:48 AM ^
of all this backpacking talk, as I stare outside my office window in the middle a city.
love backpacking, but unfortunately, I am more of a car camper these days. lame, i know. but what are you going to do? this is what happens when modern(ish) comforts like good food become more appealing than cans of tuna. i want to do a trip around the UP this summer - anyone have suggestions?
February 22nd, 2013 at 9:49 AM ^
What are your weekend plans?
I am seeing Bill Burr tomorrow in Boston. I am probably going to spend tonight bottling my first home brew batch.
Any MGoBackpackers out there?
As in, like through Europe?
Have you ever met an MGoBlogger in real life, or found out someone you know is an MGoBlogger?
I have a few friends who are MGoBloggers. It's not like I met them through MGoBlog.
Favorite grilled cheese variants?
Bacon. Lots of Bacon.

1) Work
2) No
3) Yes. Once there was an ill-advised mgo Spring Game Tailgate.
4) Egg-in-the-hole grilled cheese. Pretty delicous.
February 22nd, 2013 at 10:07 AM ^
2)I do a lot of hiking and mountaineering. Nothing super technical but I get out a lot in scenic places and I have done a decent number of peaks. As much as I loved living in Ann Arbor for 11 years, I don't think I'll ever choose to live in the Midwest again as I'd miss the mtns too much. If you're bored at work you can poke around my photo albums from some hikes:
http://www.pbase.com/ericnoel/
When I was younger I thought that doing the PCT would be something I would enjoy but I eventually realized that I don't love the backpacking aspect to grind out that much time sleeping in a tent. I'm always very impressed with the people who have the mental stamina to thru hike the AT/PCT/CDT etc.
To answer the other questions:
1)Nothing in particular.
3)Nope
4)Con jalapenos.
February 22nd, 2013 at 10:14 AM ^
I could spend hours looking at all those photos. You should definitely throw that in your signature line or something. Outstanding stuff!
February 22nd, 2013 at 2:18 PM ^
Thanks for the kind words and best of luck on your AT hike.
February 22nd, 2013 at 11:07 AM ^
damn, you've gotten around. well done and great pictures.
do you climb at all or just stick to mountains you can more or less hike up?
February 22nd, 2013 at 2:21 PM ^
Thanks.
I've done a little bit of class 5 climbing but I'm not much of a climber. Mostly as a means to tagging some peak. I do get to down a fair amount of scrambling and mountaineering with the snow/glaciers that we have in WA. But the majority of the time it is just hiking or snowshoeing and such.
February 22nd, 2013 at 10:20 AM ^
Weekend plans...working tomorrow and Sunday at my second job, a local art-house theater.
Haven't backpacked since I was at Outward Bound a billion years ago.
Never met any mgobloggers.
I second the tomato soup dunking for the grilled cheese.

Grilled peanut butter with banana and honey - make two.
February 22nd, 2013 at 10:24 AM ^
1. Starting my Ironman training
2. Too damn cold for that shit
3. Yes, only one. Thank goodness. I think I can see Magnus from here though, but I'm not sure if that is technically considered meeting him (fat joke)
4. Tom and Chee is dope as hell. Try it. Fuck doughnuts though. That shit is nasty.
