OT: Friday POSBANG (what are you listening to?)
Happy Friday everyone! Right around now is when the winter doldrums reach their peak. Areas close to Lake Michigan should see more than half a foot of snow in the next day, and the UP will get in excess of a foot, because obviously. Looks like cross-country skiing is in the works for me this weekend. What are your weekend plans?
From time to time it's nice to refresh our stale music libraries with a few fresh songs or artists. I always enjoy hearing something a little off the beaten path. We've all heard the Beach Boys, Metallica, Toby Keith, etc. How about your favorite, less-well-known bands? I offer two:
Chaotech: A rather interesting metal outfit out of Helsinki, Finland. They've come out with one EP, €xi$t, and a couple singles. I strongly recommend listening to the EP straight-through in its entirety if you happen to be a headbanger. Tracks "Apparatus of Reason" and "Decreation" are particularly noteworthy (both Soundcloud links).
Barilari: Argentinian rocker. Adrian Barilari was one of the founders of the heavy metal movement in Argentina back in the 80s as a member of the group Rata Blanca. His current solo project is reminiscent of perhaps early-80s Iron Maiden. In addition to "Abuso de Poder" embedded below, I also suggest the track "Algo Magico"
Anyways, given the diversity of tastes on the board, it's pretty likely that if you suggest some of your favorite music (of any type or genre), at least one other poster will appreciate it. Happy listening!
Edit: By the way, a posbang thread isn't a posbang thread unless you posbang people. So posbang away!

Melodic vocals + screamo = happy
Interesting the Bear has the melody despite being the size of a bear.

Embed Fail.
Oh, and how many points do I need before I can POSBANG? LOL
February 15th, 2013 at 3:02 PM ^
That's some good stuff right there! I'm generally not a screamo kind of guy, but this is cool.
Also, if you want to know how to embed, just check out the "Pretty Posts Sticky" on top of MGoBoard; you'll learn how to embed and blockquote and tons of other things.
Also, at 100 points you get posbanging privaleges.

Thanks ChopBlock...The Bunny The Bear (hereafter known as TBTH) came across a Pandora channel, and I've been a fan ever since.
Appreciate the info on Embedding and PosBanging...guess I have some work to do!

I'm about to knock out some of my podcasts. In queue: Nerdist, Rogan, Carolla and Sklarbro. In the words of Bart Scott, "I am excited for this opportunity to present itself."

Can't get enough of that song, especially unedited...wish their other stuff was half as good.
I picture them on VH1's "One-Hit Wonders" by 2020.

slept in from day one. 'Course, she took long afternoon naps, but so do I. Downside was that I never saw a movie or went out evenings for several years after she was born, but. . .

There's a guy outside my window playing the saxophone for tips and I have half a mind to go out there and punch him in the throat. He's not even that bad but after 60 minutes its downright annoying.

Yeah I'm with you here. I like it a lot more than Gorilla Manor. Saw them at Roo a couple of years ago and they killed it. About to see them again in about a month. Pretty pumped for it.

The three most recent albums I've been listening to are: (1) Local Natives - Hummingbird; (2) My Bloody Valentine - M B V; and (3) Foals - Holy Fire...
The first two mentioned above are excellent.

if any of you old-timers remember that place--sh*t ages really well. And Donny Hathaway, soul singer who died too early. Also a Rodgriguez best of, some Wayne Shorter, a Neko Case best of that I compiled, and Iggy Pop's American Caeser (Ann Arbor Pioneer boy of just before my vintage who I used to sometimes see downtown). All these because amazon sent an email saying that I could access mp3s of CDs I had purchased in the past.

currently in my players:
Rotating in my car is: Chris Thile and Michael Daves, James McMurtry, Darrell Scott, and the Lone Bellow.
At home on the turntable: Don Williams, Waylon Jennings, and The Punch Brothers...
Americana/Country is my sanctuary.
February 15th, 2013 at 3:12 PM ^
I love James McMurtry. "Choctaw Bingo" should be the national anthem.
I've been listening to Billy Joe Shaver's Salt of the Earth and Chris Smither's Hundred Dollar Valentine a ton lately.
Also the Flaming Lips At War With The Mystics, which has nothing to do with country blues.
February 15th, 2013 at 7:09 PM ^
Choctaw Bingo is a great tune....I love his "Childish Things" album, the songs "Holiday", "Six Year Drought", "Memorial Day", "Pocatello", "Elephant" and "Charlemange's Hometown" are song writing masterpieces.
Still haven't made it to Billy Joe Shaver yet, I know my dad was a fan, so I'm sure I would love him.

Pandora has been coming up with some good ones lately...
The Band: Issues
Songs:
Black Diamond
King of Amarillo
Was a big fan of the band Woe is Me, and was chapped when they broke up - but the lead singer is now the lead for the band Issues...and it's really good!

Trombone Shorty and The Decemberists.
...and the "Autopsy of Detroit NPR interview mentioned above.

Found some unreleased Imagine Dragon songs and have been checking those out lately. Danzig - Mother, When in Rome - The Promise (think Napolean Dynamite), Led Zeppelin - Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Hot Chocolate - Everyone's a Winner, Unknown Mortal Orchestra - So Good at Being in Trouble, and a new Theophilus track featuring Rihanna - Jump.
