2013 TE Durham Smythe not visiting Michigan this weekend
2013 TE Durham Smythe has named a final 3 of Michigan, Stanford and Notre Dame (in no order), and he was scheduled to visit Michigan this upcoming weekend. He was then going to go to Notre Dame for a visit the following weekend. After his in home Notre Dame visit he has decided to flip his visits, and will now be visiting Notre Dame this weekend.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It always seems like these scenarios end up with a commitment on the visit, and it's not good see the flip of visit dates occur right after a Notre Dame coach leaves his home.
To me this one wouldn't hurt too bad. I think we have solid depth at TE with Funchess, Butt, AJ Williams and Khalid Hill. What will be intersting is if Green commits next weekend, do we see a possible signing day flip or commitment with the last spot? I know I don't hear too much about Kenton Gibbs, but he seems like a prime candidate for a signing day commitment if we lose out on other options such as Smythe. I don't hear a lot about Gibbs, but I could see the Cass Tech product (who was named Michigan's dream team defensive player of the year) make a last minute commitment.

Yes please.
And we then we can have a defensive package with Wilson and Charlton and it will be the called
The Defense.

I believe the technical term is "bazillions".

Obviously "kerzillions" is way more than "bazillions"!!!

So is he not visiting at all, or just going to notre dame first then Michigan?
The way I see it..He flips the dates so he can still see notre dame then finish off by going to Michigan and committing lol tht would be oh so great!!

If he doesn't commit to Michigan, I think we'd end our class after DG commited.

I think Michigan will pursue a 28th guy in this class. Whether it's Smythe, a linebacker, a defensive lineman, or a wide receiver, I don't think a potential commitment from Green would close out the class.

You don't think there is even a shot at landing a Fourth Scholly QB?
January 20th, 2013 at 9:33 PM ^
If Michigan hasn't pursued a QB yet, I don't know why they would now (unless a transfer or injury has developed behind the scenes).

ND was supposedly his childhood favorite, and they have produced good TEs lately. Wouldn't be surprised if this is true that this one is over by next weekend.

"Look Durham, you can do literally whatever you want. The AD covers up everything for you"

Kenton Gibbs. I know he would commit on the spot if Michigan offered, so it wont take a last minute visit. The kid is a gamer too. I have watched him several times in oerson, and came away impressed both times. Thats my call for the final spot, and I see it happening on signing day.

Why do you "know he would commit on the spot?" I know Norfleet did it, but Gibbs has some strong suitors (I think Wisco, Pitt, NC State, Illinois AND Indiana are better than Cinci). Are you speculating? Or has he said he really wants a Michigan offer?
Not every Cass Tech, or Detroit kid wants to come to Michigan. Otherwise we would have had Dior Mathis, Joseph Barksdale, and Damon Webb (among others) in the fold.

An article where he said he would jump on a Michigan offer if he got one

be happy with that commitment. Although we probably need another widereciever, this is the best next thing. You can never have too many big bodies on your team!

To be honest, I'm not sure if we really need Gibbs at this point. We already have Pipkins, Henry, Godin, and potentially Wormley if he grows into a 3-tech, in the class above him. Then we lready have Poggi and Hurst Jr. in this class, which are superior prospects. Add in DTs from '14 and '15 and our interior (and outside really) dline depth is rock solid.

I don't think we really need Gibbs, either, but the whole "add in '14 and '15 DTs" comment doesn't really make sense. We don't have any guys committed for those classes, so why would we add them in? For all you know, we'll get a couple 2-star kids and Dominique Ware's shorter brother.

Gelen Robinson isn't a DT; he's a DE or *maybe* an OLB if you squint really hard. Michigan still hasn't offered him, but they're keeping an eye on him.

Ware's shorter brother ? Ahhh Damnnnn

Should eb interesting. Probably not a positive sign that he flipped his visit dates, but then again kids move around things all the time for reasons unrelated to football.
January 21st, 2013 at 9:11 AM ^
Or it could be a positive sign. Kid doesn't want to pull a Kugler and fall in love on the spot before seeing his other options. He thinks he's going to love Michigan, but wanted to see all of the imaginary girls on NDs campus before he visited Ann Arbor so he could make a more educated decision.

...that is how these things play out.
They will say if he wants a spot he has to commit now and show how much they have used TE's over the last decade.
Hope I am wrong but for folks who follow this the above is the likely scenario.
