ND lands #2 RB Recruit
Here's the story.

These are the ESPN 150 Rankings for 2013. Derek Green ranks up there as well. Let's hope we can match ND's recruiting success. It's no secret we need RB and WR (playmakers on offense) now that Denard is moving on...

"Who cares." - This is a website devoted to college football.
"Who posted this garbage." - Look up the page and find out the name at the top.
"Still not sure why we even include those guys in the recruiting summary." - ND is a rival and typically competes for the same talent as Michigan. Also the only Midwestern power not in the Big Ten.
"Their in the ACC forgodsakes." - They're. The ACC is crumbling. We still pursue similar targets and play them quite often.
Hope that helps.

I love you Herm.

I think you'd fit in better over on the free boards at Rivals or Scout. There you can pound your chest about what an awesome UM fan you are because you're enthusiastically uninformed about what's going on in the world of college football outside the city limits of Ann Arbor.

This isn't directed at you per se, but I find it silly when people click on a thread just to post that they don't like the topic.

I say meh because its a rb.. of all the 5 star bust players over the last decade..rb's has ti be the highest #..stud running backs are a dieing breed

Actually, I don't think 5-star RB's miss all that often. Going all the way back to 2002, I found just 6 guys who were Rivals 5-stars who I would consider to be "busts."
BUSTS: Darrell Scott, Jermie Calhoun, Dillon Baxter, Jason Gwaltney, Kevin Grady, Michael Johnson
Obviously, the story is yet to be written for a few guys from the past couple classes, but that's a pretty low number for encompassing the last decade. My guess is that there are other positions that have had higher bust rates, but I haven't looked at every spot. And regardless, I think personal issues get in the way more than physical talent. If you look at the above list of guys, at least a few of them (Gwaltney, Grady, Baxter) had off-the-field problems that contributed to their poor/mediocre careers.
I don't know whether Bryant has character issues or not, but if he doesn't, then I'd say there's a pretty good chance that he finds success.

However, that one recruit looks the same as many others over the last 25 years at ND. UM needs to do their part and grab a WR & RB!

UM needs a big time skill guy. I think Funchess will be elite at TE but could use more weapons.
Props to ND though. Its clear ND and OSU are carrying the torch for superprograms in the North. I think if UMs OL recruits pan out they can join them.

Very surprised that the #2 rivals RB has a listed 40 of 4.56. Although he is pretty big already for a HS Sr so he probably won't lose speed putting on weight.

Maybe that's his actual speed, rather than the guys who list 4.3 speed and then run 4.7's at the NFL Combine a few years later.

I agree with some of the posters that it appears that RB's with lots of stars are more likely to work out then lets say an offensive linemen. That all said it is still a number based on potential, specifically NFL potential. What is often overlooked is recruiting players that fit a scheme. The Weis classes were noted did not reflect in wins. But they were acting like a bad NY Yankee team in that they were more a collection of talents then a coherent set of classes.
There are certain programs that have had great success identifying players that match a scheme and playing to that scheme. At their best Iowa did this. Wisc also has had a lot of success without neccesarily uber recruits. Oregon is a BCS player not every year without neccesarily relying on top15 classes every year.
Ultimately there has to be a trust of the coaching staff. Moving to basketball which is much easier to scout because they play so much more, it is amazing that Beilein identifies lower level recruits that either explode as seniors or explode in college. So if Mattison is all excited on a 3 star and passes by a 5 star, I am going to trust Mattison over any recruiting agency.
