Omameh given Allstate Good Works award
Omameh was honored with a surprise ceremony Thursday night at the hospital for being part of the 11-member Allstate AFCA Good Works team, an award given to college football players for their community service work.
Sweating profusely, Omameh was stunned. He had known he had been named as part of the team, selected from a pool of 117 candidates and Michigan's first team member since Zoltan Mesko. He had no idea he would be presented his award in front of some of the families he helps each week, media members and around 20 teammates who showed up to help celebrate his accomplishments.

I appreciate that this is a feel-good article, but if it made you tear up, you must bawl your eyes out when someone takes the last donut, too.

Thinking about kids with cancer and players doing good things to help them is nothing to mock. Also, I imagine you didn't spend last week sleeping in a hospital room chair.

Much deserved, and

"The Leaders And Best" being exactly that yet again.
I get to hear about his visits sometimes because my sister-in-law works at Mott, and this really does make the week for many of those kids, to have Michigan football players come to see them. Wonderful work indeed.
Congratulations, Patrick!

I am annoyed by the headline on ESPN, though. It reads that he was "given" the award. I would bet signficant monies that, if you spoke with the people whose lives Patrick touched, they would emphatically say that he EARNED the award. Five years of selfless actions were the real "gift." Thank you, Patrick, for reinforcing why I am proud to be a Wolverine!
To clarify, my mini-rant was not aimed toward the OP, just at the person who penned the title of the ESPN article. It's a pet peeve, and I am seeking help for it.

Always good to see this kinda of stuff.

He visited a friend of mine in the hospital last year. During the season. Truly a class act.

I love the "Sweating profusely" part. It just seems so unnecessary

Hello MGoBloggers,
It's so great to see Patrick be recognized for his selflessness and the time he spent at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital throughout his time on the football team - he is truly a Michigan Man in every sense of the word.
In an effort not to take any attention away from Patrick, I am posting on this thread as a new user on MGoBlog (could not create my own thread) and wanted to reach out to the MGoBlog community about the newly established Zoltan Mesko Foundation (http://www.facebook.com/ZoltanMeskoFoundation) and our current fundraising promotion with the New England Patriots and Celebrities for Charity. My name is Tim North, and I am a former U of M Football defensive end (2005-09) and current director for the Zoltan Mesko Foundation. Zoltan has greatly appreciated the support from MGoBlog since his freshman year (yes, he was well-aware of the Space Emperor title in 2005), and wanted to make sure we connected with U of M fans to raise awareness for the Zoltan Mesko Foundation and our current promotion: http://www.celebritiesforcharity.org/raffle/zoltan-meskos-london-ticket…
If a more seasoned MGoBlogger could make a new topic about the Zoltan Mesko Foundation we would GREATLY appreciate the help. Again, we do not want to take any attention away from Patrick so it would be awesome if there was a seperate thread to discuss.
Thanks again everyone and Go Blue!

I also notified the mods of your 'new user' status. Hopefully they'll give you a point boost so you can start future threads by yourself.

Also, it looks like mods upped your point total, Mr. North. Give our best to the Space Emperor!

Best thing to do, in my opinion, is to reach out directly to Brian or Seth (you can just use the "Contact" pull-down to get the general e-mail address), and work with them to find the best way to get Zoltan's charity out in front of the MGoCommunity.
I'm not so sure an MGoBoard post is the optimal way to get your message out, but my hunch is that the powers that be will be happy to get your charity plugged in a prominent place. And thanks for your work on behalf of kids - it's great to see you and Zoltan M. carrying on the traditions of service to children, with those traditions presumably fostered at UofM.

What a great guy Omameh is for doing that. His teammates look happy there too. BTW Patrick looks yoked, he must be about 10 percent bf which is amazing for an OL....
