How much is Bama-UM costing you?
I have just completed booking my travel plans for Dallas and was curious how much this is costing everyone. I am traveling with one other person from New York and our breakdown is:
Flight - $450 per person
Hotel - $680 for 2 nights
Tickets - $350 for 2 tickets in the 200 level
We were curious if most people were looking at numbers like this? If so, allow me to speak for us when I say, "We better win!!"
This game will cost me however many drinks I consume at the local bar.
Edit: But seriously, I wish I could fork over that kind of cash and go to this game.
I really hope you're one of the people bitching about the increase in cost of season ticket packages.
We just calculated $500 per person for us as students.
I'm sure we forgot major costs and did bad math, but that's what we're counting on.
$500 a pop as students? What? I'm planning on going and my cost better not top $250, hell my goal is going to be keeping it under $200. If you are students why not drive?
At $125 a ticket, that would mean getting there, eating, drinking and sleeping for $75. If I thought there was any way $200 was doable I would go, but I don't see how the numbers would work out, even if you tried having five people carpool and sleep in the car somewhere.
We are driving. $50 for a ticket, $100 for food, $100 for alcohol, hotel price, gas prices, the dumb $25 Cowboy Classic T-Shirt I'm going to end up buying.
1000 miles to Dallas form Ann Arbor / 20 miles per gallon = 50 gallons of gas * $4/gallon * 2 way trip = $400 in gas to get there and back
Wow, the hotel is pretty costly. My spring break trip for 7 nights was cheaper than your stay.
I gave brief thought about going, then decided my Samsung LED TV would do just fine. My wife loved the decision. So its basically costing me a cable subsription with an HD package.
I'm within driving distance so the only cost right now is ticket costs. Honestly, this game is going to be a hell of a lot cheaper than flying up to AA to see a game for me. That being said, I'd probably rather get back up there to see the old town.
Are you saying you got your tickets on stubhub for 125 a piece? If you did thats what the normal cost was and I'd say you got lucky.
About 5 bank accounts, three ounces, and two vehicles.
Flight - $380
Tickets to the game - $285
Hotel - $120 (per person for 3 nights)
Drinks - $_______
To see Michigan win this game will be well worth it, easily would be the best road trip of my life passing 97 Penn State trip.
125 for a ticket.
50 bucks for hotel (2 nights split 3 ways)
We are driving all the way down there, we are picking up a friend in Nashville, and heading down. Figure its cheaper than flying.
Food and drinks will cost us about 30 bucks a person.
Drinking in general the night before while pre pre pre tailgating at a bar on Friday could be 40 bucks.
So in general I would say about 300-350 for me. Also, I have a tailgating question to anyone that is from Dallas and been to a game there. I read the parking rules, it says you can only tailgate on the grass. So if I am in a regular parking spot in one of those lots around the stadium, am I screwed for tailgating?
Where the heck are you staying!?! There are plenty of great hotels for under $100 (Renaissance and Westin to name a couple.
In order to be with other friends meeting us there, we are staying at The W. Obviously a costly location.
There is a Starwood AMEX card that you can end up with at least enough points to stay one night at the W for free and the second night you could do points + pay and that crazy high W cost would end up around $150.
Also, $300+ per night at the W is an awful price - it's a nice hotel but not worth $300+ a night.
I had plans with a bunch of friends around the country to meet up in Dallas for the weekend, but we eventually decided to scrap them when we couldn't get tickets. I'm pretty happy though, because for the cost of the weekend in Dallas, I could spend a week at my parent's place in Barbados. Kind of a no brainer for a guy in his 20s.

If you're dropping $1300 to go to a game in which we're a 14-point dog, I'd advise not viewing it as an entirely wasted trip if we lose...
Not that we're going to lose, of course.
and hotel points will cover that cost so all I have to do is pay for the tickets...Its times like this that I THANK GOD I travel ALOT for work...I just did 2 weeks in Maui for work and I earned something like 30,000 FFY miles with status bonus miles just for that trip alone , it pays for one of my tickets...There are plenty of ways to keep costs down if you get creative...
Your hotel costs seem VERY high for Dallas...
G550 out of Chicago- $35,000
Presidential Suite, Ritz-Carlton Dallas- $5,000
Suite at game- $50,000
Phantom with driver- $5,000
I'd love to cut some costs, but I just don't see how it's even worth going at that point.
I think your G550 cost is way off... should be more..
Seriously, though, I had thought those went for about $7,500 an hour, when it's actually almost double that price. A round trip from Chicago to Dallas would easily be six figures. And I wonder why I drive everywhere...
this makes me even more angry at Liam Neeson's statement "If you're looking for ransom, I have to tell you: I do not have money" in Taken...just moments before he hops on (what looks like on the interior to be) a G550 (or similar) to France.
how much he values his daughter, and where his priorities are at.
Agreed, I'd take the G550 over the daughter any day of the week.
You don't own?
Priceless.
free tickets with southwest..
$200 for hotel ($100 a night at Hilton Garden Inn)
I'll get tickets for about $50 a couple days before the game
Lots of money on food and beverage
So you have that going for you.
I'd like to tell you some stories man, but I can't. Why don't you give me your business card and I can tell you later?
Free 99...
I suspect I'll spend a lot more than that. Also flying from NYC, but probably staying at least 3 nights, may be making a quick trip to Austin, got the most expensive tix, I think 275 a pop. And then of course there is booze and bbq costs which will be substantial.
Have not booked my flight yet. But...
Tickets - 2x $175
Hotel - $89 per night for three nights (staying in the Market Center per a tip on a previous topic).
Rental Car - $111
That is $728 for two without the flight costs which I would expect to be $250 a piece. Right now I am planning on getting into Dallas on Thursday and staying until Sunday but depending on flights that could easily become Friday-Sunday.
Love Field is cheaper to fly into/rent cars from than DFW.....
For the next 149 nights. So a little over a day, in total.
....after my wife opens the credit card statement.
My dad has got a rich sister that is a huge Bama fan that is paying for him to come out and go to the game (okay he probably will pay for some stuff like food). So. Jealous.
I bet you can do better than $450 for flights. Set up a daily price alert on Kayak.com and see how it fluctuates for a few weeks, you have plenty of time to buy the plane ticket. So many people look at flight prices once and think that's the final word, but they go up and down a lot. Just be patient.
And that hotel price, i mean good god man
Don't know yet, depends on if we fork up money for Stubhub seats (unlikely) or if a friend doesn't go and gives them to us. But I'm staying with a friend's family in Austin, so it's only however much gas is for 128 gallons
and with four tickets and parking, I'm close to a grand. I'm glad I don't have to fly or spend money on a hotel room, YIKES!. Keep searching for flights to DFW or Love Field. I recently bought a round trip ticket from DFW to Grand Rapids for $180 (after tax, fees, etc.). United Airlines seems to have the best deals into Dallas. Also, check out Southwest and fly into Love Fiels, less traffic and stress.
Finally, you will love the price of concessions inside the stadium.
... on the house.
My boss is a huge Alabama fan and the company is covering everything.
