ACE: Catching Up With Laquon Treadwell
Though Crete (IL) Monee receiver Laquon Treadwell maintains he has no favorites, Michigan has been a constant presence in his recruitment and they are, at the very least, among his leaders. Treadwell picked up offers from Nebraska and Indiana in December to go along with early offers from Michigan and Notre Dame, and the four-star receiver recently was named to the MaxPreps 2011 Junior All-American first team after a stellar junior season. I caught up with Laquon this afternoon, and he talked about the status of his recruitment, including an early top five:
ACE: First of all, I know you added a couple offers in December. Which teams are having the most contact with you right now?
LAQUON: The teams with the most contact would have to be Ohio State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Michigan.
ACE: Three of those teams have come through with offers—Nebraska, Michigan, and Notre Dame—and you've also got one from Indiana, correct?
LAQUON: Yes.
ACE: Would you say you've got any favorites right now?
LAQUON: I don't have any favorites, but I do have a top five that I like.
ACE: And what's the top five?
LAQUON: Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and then Tennessee—oh yeah, I've been hearing from Tennessee, too.
ACE: Did you get a chance to watch the Sugar Bowl last night?
LAQUON: No, I didn't. I was actually watching the [Semper Fidelis] high school All-American game, and then I didn't get a chance to watch.
ACE: How is everything going for you with your basketball season?
LAQUON: It's going good. We're 12-3 right now, just lost in the championship game of a Christmas tournament, but it's going pretty good.
ACE: Are you planning on making it to any junior days or camps during the offseason?
LAQUON: I haven't made any plans about any visits because a lot of coaches have been pretty busy lately and I haven't heard from them, so I haven't had the chance to make any visits happen. I plan on over the offseason trying to do Core 6 [a training facility for high school athletes in Illinois]—they have a showcase thing with Fox [news coverage] and all that.
ACE: We just came out of a dead period for recruiting, but have Michigan's coaches been in contact with you at all recently, or has it been quiet on that front?
LAQUON: It's been quiet, for all the coaches actually. I haven't heard from a coach in about a week, a week or two.

Since his teammate Standifer was playing in the Semper Fidelis game, I guess I can excuse him for watching that instead...

Am I remembering incorrectly, or is Core 6 the training facility that Logan Tuley-Tillman goes to? I remember from that one article that Logan goes to a training facility when time and finances permit.
If that were the same facility that LaQuon goes to, maybe we are losing one personal connection, but gaining another . . . .

Yup, same one.

Looks like our lead may be shrinking a bit, if only temporarily. Hopefully we will come back to the top when Hoke starts talking to him again, which should be any day now.

Sugar Shane really has some monster man hands eh>?

No fumbles for you!

watching the game last night made me that much more excited for a pro style offense under Shane. Consisting of 300lb offensive lineman and a manball RB.
Don't get me wrong, I love Denard and all that he has done for our program. Last night was just brutal to watch....

I just do not see him being blue.......Hope I am wrong but after the standifer deal, I don't see it. Yes, yes I know he tweeted it doesn't affect him.....

I'll put it this way—that's not at all the vibe I get. Not saying he's a shoe-in or anything, but I think it's fair to say Michigan is the team to beat for him.

Tom had buckle up when he was trying to be cryptic. I know you may not have meant to imply anything with this comment, but we need you to develop one so you can bust it out when it's time.

Ace's and Eights. Please

Did you feel his tone was any different towards Michigan than when Anthony was a commit? Maybe it is my mind playing tricks on me but I feel he was more excited in the past. Maybe he was new to recruiting so it was actually really exciting and now it is getting to be old hat?
I really want him to go blue, I think this kid is a tremendous player.
January 4th, 2012 at 5:01 PM ^
I don't really think his tone has changed—some days you catch a recruit and he's got a lot of energy, some days not so much (when I called today, Laquon was working on a paper). In general, I think he's still as high on Michigan as he was when Standifer was committed.

This should be a disclaimer/reminder on all recruiting interview posts. It might reduce some of the emotional highs and lows and add a few more years onto all of our lives. I know we'd all like them to have a Michigan induced manic disorder but they do have other things going on in their lives. It's actually probably a good thing he'll only see the highlights of the win yesterday since they make us look way better.
January 4th, 2012 at 4:30 PM ^
I'm sure other teams will make a run at him, but I think it still will come down to us and ND. Time for Sugar Shane to get to work. Let's hope he sees LaQuon at some camps and 7-on-7s.
January 4th, 2012 at 4:31 PM ^
Ace, do you think Standifer's decommitment will hurt our chances?
January 4th, 2012 at 4:59 PM ^
It may hurt insofar as Michigan no longer has that leg up over every other school, but I don't think it's really going to hurt them in the long run. I take Laquon at his word when he says it won't affect his decision.
January 4th, 2012 at 6:37 PM ^
I think Shane will be the deciding factor for Laquon. Our QB situation appears set for the future, while ND's appears iffy at best.
January 4th, 2012 at 7:06 PM ^
AHHH I want him to commit. After watching last night's game, we need some prototypical power WRs that can get open using their speed or athleticism to run our offense.
We are in on some excellent WRs this year, including KY WR James Quick and OH WR Kevin Gladney in addition to Treadwell. 2 of those 3 would be very solid, although sounds like Gladney is a Buckeye fan.

that anyone on this site could catch up with Laquon
