ESPN features Shane Morris non-paywall article
Brief article/interview with committed 2013 QB Shane Morris.
Money quote:
ESPNHS: You’ve come a long way since then. What have you done to continue to improve?
Morris: In the offseason and during the winter I work out five times a week. I lift weights three days a week and the other days I’m doing core exercises. I throw three or four times a week. I’m working hard every day trying to get better. I’m just trying to reach my goals.
This kid, along with our other stellar and inspiring recruits, gets me really excited for the future of Michigan football.

He's become one of the most hyped up recruits in recent memory. I just hope the fanbase learns to be patient just in case he isn't hitting receivers in stride from behind his back the second he sees the field...

Well Devin should provide him with at least a redshirt season so he probably wouldn't compete for the starter's role until the 2014 season when in theory he could be a redshirt Freshman. The bottom line is we aren't going to deal with the Sheridan? or Threet? QB armageddon for a very long time, if ever. I vote ever.

Hey man, his favorite show is "Glee." A "Glee Man" can handle anything... then break out in dance.

Does anybody think Shane Morris coach/offensive coordinator is holding him back? Only 1500 yards passing and 16 touchdowns. I have watched all of Grand Rapids Christians games this year and they have 2 QB's with over 1,000 yards passing and 13 and 10 touchdowns each. And neither of them are close to the caliber QB that shane morris is.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:28 PM ^
Shane's WRs drop a ton of passes; seems like it's an average of 6-7 passes a game. Maybe some of those passes are due to the touch that Morris puts on the football, but QB can only do so much, and his WR corp has gotta step up and haul those catches in. Shane's OL is average at best also; doesn't give him much time in pocket. I wouldn't worry about it; Morris has the arm strength, mechanics, and the intanglibes to be a great one in college.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:45 PM ^
Not worried about Shane just wondering why his stats aren't as good as i thought they would be? Thought maybe the O-Coord was the reason.
November 1st, 2011 at 2:31 AM ^
and your spot on. He must have had 10 dropped balls that game that hit his recievers right in the hands.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:30 PM ^
No, I don't think his coach is "holding him back." Did you ever think that their tough schedule might be what is appearing to "hold him back" and that it might be responsible for their playing so well right now? Also, he is a highly-rated recruit and he dominated a lot of older competition in QB camps last summer, so exactly what might his coach be "holding him back" from?
A QB's job is to win. Period. Stats are secondary. Besides, if the wealth is spread around al little bit, there is less chance of an injury. If he was being "held back," do you really think ESPN would be writing about him as a HS junior?
October 31st, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
my point was we all know he is a superstar QB, so why arent his stats better? And my thought was maybe his offensive coordinator isnt that good. I am not trying to hate on shane morris at all. I am as pumped about him as everyone else is.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
There are so many factors that affect HS stats that make them pretty unreliable. His OL could give him very little time to throw, his receivers may not have great hands, or the system his HS runs may just not be that pass heavy.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
That's like comparing Michigan's quarterbacks to Hawaii's quarterbacks. One plays in a pass happy offense against crappy competition, the other plays against stacked competition in a balanced offense. The Catholic League Central Division is always stacked. We are getting Ross and Godin out of there after all, and are hoping for Reschke.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:43 PM ^
So you are saying the OK White is crappy competition. Even though they have 5 time defending state champion East Grand Rapids and state power Lowell in their conference? Also 3 of non-conference teams GRC played where playoff teams.
Just saying if you have a QB as good as Morris maybe you should throw a little more.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
My bad. I clouded my analogy with a separate point about the competition as I was thinking about Mich vs. Hawaii. The main point was the playing style.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:54 PM ^
Gotcha, I would just like to see what morris could do in a more pass happy offense. And if I was his O-coord i would probably pass more.
October 31st, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
last year and they ran the ball a lot. Shane didn't have to throw the ball for them to win.
November 1st, 2011 at 12:41 PM ^
Did you go to GRCH? I did, and we never had QBs like that when I was there! fall 1997- spring 2001

Interesting that his favorite TV show is Glee... At least he owns it. Every generation has their embarrassing show that everyone loves I suppose.
Also, this list is linked off the Morris article:

Surprised the last one on the list isn't a major pipeline for MSU.

Bad Axe Hatchets (Bad Axe, Mich.)
This could be the alma mater of Jason Voorhees, the fictional murderer in the Friday the 13th series of films. There may not be a better combination of a school name and the nickname anywhere in the nation.

Not hating...but damed if Shane is TAILOR MADE for Hype. Check out that pic and million dollar smile.
I hope that he can handle the intense scrutiny that will come with this hype...and that he doesnt end up like Drew Henson... not that Drew failed, but other than 3/4 of a good year at Michigan, he didnt do much and shot himself in the foot for his pro career....
Shane seems like a great kid...madison ave. will be all over him if he does anything at Michigan.
November 1st, 2011 at 12:44 AM ^
PS...Im not counting Russ Bellomy out. The vids of how hard that kid works out are nothing short of amazing...they are over on youtube... you know... its the guy who works hardest and is the smartest that ultimately wins as a Michigan QB... I dont know much about Shane but Bellomy impresses me with his grit.
November 1st, 2011 at 1:20 AM ^
Seriously, only 651 days until he's eligible to play as a true freshman against central michigan. I think that we need a daily count down. There are...
November 1st, 2011 at 9:02 AM ^
I'd like to see Devin play through 2014 (as a standout dual threat with a great arm) while Shane redshirts 2013 and then leads the team from 2015 though 2017.
Man, that seems like such a long time.
November 1st, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
I don't see a redshirt. If he's our starting qb in 2014 then they probably want him to get some game experience in 2013
November 1st, 2011 at 1:54 PM ^
If Devin gets his 5th, why wouldn't you reshirt Shane instead of have him start only 2 years?
November 1st, 2011 at 1:24 AM ^
You guys have hit all the main points on why his stats aren't mind blowing. With a brother on the team I've seen or heard how he's done every game. Earlier in the season they ran the ball against weaker teams, but in the catholic league their o line has been shredded and WRs are dropping 1 out of 3 good balls.
November 1st, 2011 at 5:39 AM ^
The more I read, the more I like Shane Morris. It will be very interesting to have him out there.
And kudos to ESPN for having interesting Michigan-related content in front of the paywall.

Two scary things in Shane's list of "favorites"....
He loves Adam Sandler (Luke Fickell's doppelganger plus Sandler sucks ballz) and Nike (UM is an Adidas school while OSU is still a Nike school). Clearly, Shane will be swayed to the "dark side" by these two factors.
November 1st, 2011 at 9:49 AM ^
Dang, he's got some classy taste in cars. Rolls-Royce Phantom?
November 1st, 2011 at 10:45 AM ^
..........well I guess UGG boots sponsor Tom Brady, so I think we're ok here.

Break the contract DB!!! We need to have Sugar Shane wearing something like this
November 1st, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
Does anyone think that Bellomy will have any legitimate chance at playing at UM? Or will we go straight from Devin to Morris?
November 1st, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
Take a look at last year's secondary, or Matt Gutierrez getting injured and forcing us to start a true freshman Chad Henne.
