I'm booking my tickets right now.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
I need corroboration by something other than BTN announcers.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
FYI: We scored 14 unanswered points even though Denard did not throw a pass since his hand injury.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
We also stopped NW on 3rd down. So it's Michigan Ball.
October 8th, 2011 at 11:11 PM ^
I heard that but he did throw deep to Gallon right after his "injury".
October 8th, 2011 at 11:28 PM ^
that's the point
October 8th, 2011 at 10:24 PM ^
sample size fail
October 8th, 2011 at 10:26 PM ^
Wait to post until after the game.

path their this year.
Win our division by going 10-2 or better, go to the B10 title game, probably lose to Bucky and we are in the Rose with that record.
It gets more realistic each week.
Pound spartina next week and it becomes doable.
October 8th, 2011 at 11:05 PM ^
Negged for "spartina"
October 8th, 2011 at 11:22 PM ^
to lose lots of points
October 8th, 2011 at 11:28 PM ^
I would beg for mercy now as the last person to use "Spartina" in a post spent a while digging themselves out of Bolivia.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
Actually, I don't think we could have gone to the Rose Bowl in 02, 03, or 04. They stopped playing the game because Stanford wasn't good at football after the 1901 season.
October 9th, 2011 at 2:41 AM ^
They're good again. Only took 100 years
October 8th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
Go Blue!!!!!!! However we never had to navigate through a title game before
October 8th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
we're just sayin'
October 8th, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
And then what? Play Stanford or Boise?
October 8th, 2011 at 10:30 PM ^
Stop jinxing it.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:33 PM ^
That can't be right. The team won their first ten games in 1973 (and then tied OSU) and didn't go the Rose Bowl.
EDIT: In 1974, again a 10-0 start, then a loss to OSU--and no Rose Bowl.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:35 PM ^
My instinctive response as well...
October 8th, 2011 at 10:35 PM ^
BTN announcers were wrong? That's new.
October 8th, 2011 at 11:25 PM ^
What the OP failed to mention was the qualification that this is since 1976. Not sure why 1976 matter more than 1974, but then again these "ESPN/BTN type stats" are often pretty meaningless anyway.
EDIT: Well now the OP edited the title so my first sentence is meaningless, but my point as a whole stands, there is no sensible reason 1976 is the cutoff.
October 8th, 2011 at 11:46 PM ^
I agree with the meaningless of this. The reason they picked 1976 is because that was when this dubious "streak" began. What it comes down to is that the last five times Michigan started 6-0 (1976, 1977, 1986, 1997, and 2006), the team went to the Rose Bowl.
But the team also went to the Rose Bowl without starting 6-0 nine times during the same period--1978, 1980, 1982, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 2003, and 2004.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:32 PM ^
But I really don't think this is gonna happen. Love the 6-0 start, but I still don't see a dominant team yet.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
And with the miles of former tiebreakers no longer in effect, which gave us a not insignificant portion of our Rose Bowl appearances over the years, it's a hell of a lot harder to get to Pasadena than it used to be.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
We will know more after sparty.
October 8th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^
I would rather the team focus on Michigan State and the other upcoming games than an obscure stat.
October 8th, 2011 at 11:05 PM ^
October 8th, 2011 at 11:23 PM ^
Which one's most critical to make Rose Bowl a reality?
1. Short / Medium Pass Coverage
2. Power-rushing through the center
3. kickoff / punt coverage
4. Defense along the edge
5. D-Rob pass accuracy
October 8th, 2011 at 11:24 PM ^
Who cares? I mean, of course I want it to happen but I'm just happy with the direction of the team. Going into the season, I was no as optimistic as others who were saying 8+ wins. After Rich's first couple of seasons, I fully expected a losing season in 'surprising' fashion like 2008.
October 8th, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
A bit rough in the first half but the team played much better in the 2nd half! Hope we play a complete game next week in E.Lansing! I really want to knock off both MSU and OSU this year!
I'm getting more optimistic that we can win 10 games this season. 2 to 3 more than I had thought we would win. Just keep improving as a team and we will be in good shape no matter what bowl we play in!

I bought Big Ten Championship tickets at the beginning of the year and I never thought UM had a chance. Now I am having a hard time not drinking the kool-aid.

That's all I need. I'm convinced. Anybody else ready to go for non-refundable airline tickets?
October 9th, 2011 at 12:48 AM ^
Michigan's past opponents are 17-17.
WMU (4-2) NDame (4-2), EMU (3-3), SDSU (3-2), Minn (1-5), NW (2-3)
Michigan's future opponents are: 24-9
at Michigan State 4-1
Purdue 3-2
at Iowa 3-2
at Illinois 6-0
Nebraska 5-1
OSU 3-3
October 9th, 2011 at 12:50 AM ^
That's: WMU (4-1); ND (4-1); EMU (3-2); SDSU (3-1); Minn (1-4); NW (2-2).
That's 17-9. Not so far off.
October 9th, 2011 at 7:34 AM ^
Interesting that you would do that, but is it reasonable to omit the games they played against us? I'm too hung over and sick to give it anything resembling thought, but interesting.
October 9th, 2011 at 7:41 AM ^
probably not, but we're looking at the other teams strength before playing us, so it only makes sense to remove ourselves from the others (in my sleep-deprived mind at least).

BEAT SPARTY.

I'm debating whether or not to go back home to New Orleans for Christmas break. Why settle for the Rose Bowl when Michigan could end up in the BCS Championship game?
