Shaq Thompson would love to hear from Michigan?
The article is behind a pay wall, but Steve Wiltfong says that Shaq Thompson would love to hear from Michigan. Which I'm certain the only person more surprised to hear that than Michigan fans, is Brady Hoke. I get irritated when certain recruits say they would love to hear from a particular school, that they really aren't interested in, that they just want to add to their resume. I'm not saying that this is the case in this scenario, but I suspect it is.

Rivals Profile lists his favorites as Cal, ND, Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington, with no mention of Michigan.
I wouldn't say no to the 10th overall player in the country though...

Shaq Thompson: I would like to hear more from Michigan.
Translation: I would like them to invite me for an official visit so I can attend the UTL game with Jordan Payton.

No translation necessary: I would also like to hear more from michigan so I can go to the UTL game with Payton.

I hear from UM plenty, but strangely it just seems to be them asking for my money as an alumnus. I keep asking for an official visit to the UTL game, but so far no luck.

He also has two former teammates in the '11 class at Cal. My impression is that in spite of the decommit Cal people would still be very surprised to see Thompson end up going elsewhere. Though my impression may not be totally up to date.

As i quote Payton.

Yes please...

Yeah, Thompson has offers from the past two BCS National Champions, and had interest from USC, Texas, and Notre Dame. He's totally just doing it to pad his resume.

Getting an offer from Michigan = kind of cool and a nice ego boost, even if you don't need it.

Sorry, I forgot the "/s" on my post.

I think HaHa Dix and Karlos Williams are also interested in hearing from Michigan...

Don't get me wrong - I'd love a 5* safety here. But, unless he calls the coaches and asks for an official visit, I'd say don't waste the time.
August 17th, 2011 at 1:10 PM ^
Im sure Michigan would love to have him.
Its not like hes a 3* looking to get recognized, looks like most coaches and recruiting services already know of him.

I'm Ron Burgundy?

Until I hear something from the messiah himself, I'm not getting too excited.
August 17th, 2011 at 1:20 PM ^
We could use a player with dreads... we don't have one yet in the class. Plus he is a 5* stud...

So that's a good thing, considering what time period that meme came from.
August 17th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
Wilson, Gant, and probably Standifer. Clark already in 2013. Plus the current roster is loaded there too. None seem like a risk to decommit.
The only position that is MORE full than Safety is LB.

I'm in the camp that says that some guys are such elite prospects that you don't turn them away - especially in August - almost no matter how the numbers look. Maybe a lower-rated commit at his position sees the writing on the wall and looks elsewhere. Maybe there's a position switch. Worst case, you just end up a little heavier than you'd like at one position and lighter at another until you correct for it with next year's class. If the guy is as good as everyone thinks, he'd more than make up for a little temporary roster imbalance.
August 17th, 2011 at 2:41 PM ^
If the coaches see his talent the same way the analysts do, then great. But sometimes they don't (e.g.,Schutt, Lucien) and that's fine too.
Wilson is rated nearly as high as Thompson and Gant is a legacy. I don't think either guy is going anywhere.
If there's a position switch amongst the current S recruits, it's probably to LB, where we're also full. And many see Standifer as more of a Safety.
Maybe Thompson can be a CB or WR but most seem to want him at Safety. I just have a hard time seeing it work unless the coaches just love the kid.

This kid will start as soon as he walks on any campus.
August 17th, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
Not getting my hopes up, but It would be awesome to have him on our team.
August 17th, 2011 at 2:31 PM ^
keep in mind the staff said they wanted to take one more elite DB so if he is truly interested in Michigan I am sure the staff will find a spot for him
August 17th, 2011 at 2:37 PM ^
Play him at CB, then that remaining DB spot that the coaches want to fill will be taken care of. Hopefully we can get an official out of him, that would be a start. We shouldn't say no if he wants to visit, like we did with Schutt. I am still stuck on that situation, and think we should have let him visit as well, just in case something happened in the future with Pipkins, oh well.
August 17th, 2011 at 2:46 PM ^
he's not a CB. Even Peterson was under 200 coming out as a recruit.
August 17th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
Does anyone know the context of him saying that. I mean did someone ask him what do you think about Michigan so he said he would love to hear from them because if so that means nothing. Now if he was asked who your favorites are and he mentioned Michigan that would be exciting.
August 17th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
I don't really believe he is all that interested in ND at this point, maybe after a visit but until then he is all Cal, or at least all left coast
August 17th, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
Hopefully Hoke, Mallory, Mattison heck anyone on staff se that interview
