This is a bit off-topic in this thread but my question does not warrant a different thread, I don't think . . .
I'm watching Manchester City v. Manchester United on Fox Soccer Plus channel and am a bit confused as to who I should root for in the game. But a bigger issue is what club team I should support. I'm somewhat of a soccer virgin but have been staying up later than usual and watching random games on this Fox Soccer Plus channel. I think I want to support an English team but I don't even know what league to pay attention to . . . Premier League?
Any suggestions about which team(s) I should be sure to watch would be much appreciated.

Everton.

The Spartans to Liverpool's Wolverines :)
Don't let that enrage you if you're a true Everton supporter - I follow Liverpool fairly closely, but I'm far from a true diehard at this point.
But I will say this, at the Liverpool blog I go to many of the commenter refer to Everton as 'our wee neighbors.' Granted, there's a subcurrent of respect behind it that I don't think most Michigan fans extend to Sparty.

I like your style, sir...

depends on what type of soccer you want to see....top of the table you're looking at teams like Chelsea, Man U, Aresenal, and Man City, with Man U being the obvious choice to repeat with their upgrades. Middle of the table you're looking at Fulham, Everton, Aston Villa, etc. It all depends on which players you like and what type of soccer you want to see.

Thanks for both of your responses. I appreciate it!
Do you think that the Premier League is the way to go? Or should I be looking elsewhere?
August 10th, 2011 at 11:03 PM ^
if your looking for convenience, then yes. the premier league is the only league with consistant games on US tv.
if you want better quality soccer, watch Germany or Spain. Bundislega is fun as hell to watch... but for me, there's nothing better than Spanish soccer. Im a diehard Barcelona fan, but I love Valencia, Villareal, Atletico. Bilbao is cool too because every one of there players was born and raised in the Basque region of Spain. and theyre good.

They do show La Liga matches on Espn too. I like watching the Bundesliga too, but you have to have GolTV to catch regular matches.

I personally like Fulham for the EPL because of Dempsey.

I'm not sure whether you're a Manchester fan or just only watched the EPL for one season, but totally omitting Liverpool from that list is a bit odd.

Great rivals, league, fans, players, stadium, and relevance.
You can never go wrong being a rossoneri.

August 10th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^

Im liking tha adjustments that we have made lately alot more agressive attacking

August 10th, 2011 at 10:55 PM ^
Agreed, really has a way of finding the ball and making great runs. Also I really like the size he brings to the attacking midfield.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
Why the f- can't they put names on the back of their jerseys? They want people to support the US team but this novice can't figure out who is who . . .
August 10th, 2011 at 10:53 PM ^
Its on purpouse from the new coach, Klinsmann. Probably to stress team play over individual play etc.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:57 PM ^
Thanks for the response. It makes sense, but its still annoying.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:50 PM ^
that could have been a penalty...
August 10th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^
Donovan is clearly better in an attacking midfielder role, but our players need to space themselves better and in passing lanes. Still much better stuff here from our boys.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^
edit: duplicate.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^
That was a fucking penalty
August 10th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^

August 10th, 2011 at 10:55 PM ^

August 10th, 2011 at 10:58 PM ^

August 10th, 2011 at 10:59 PM ^
That us a fucking straight red. What a bunch of shit.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:59 PM ^
For the life of me, I don't know how someone can be THROWN DOWN and no Red is given. I dno't get it. I don't get it man
August 10th, 2011 at 10:59 PM ^
THAT IS FUCKING BULLSHIT RED ALL THE WAY.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:59 PM ^
How is that not a red!!!!???
August 10th, 2011 at 11:01 PM ^
Is it just me or is Shea play like former liverpool striker Patrik Berger? Both have lanky bodies with long torsos and shorter legs.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:03 PM ^
I think he is actually trying to channel his inner Fernando Torres with that hair. He even has arm tats like Torres.
August 11th, 2011 at 9:11 AM ^
I should have known Torres would turn out to be kind of a pussy when I learned that he had tattoos on his arms in Tolkien Elvish script. I hope Shea's are unrelated to any fantasy-based languages.
August 11th, 2011 at 11:07 AM ^
Torres = The Spanish Shevchenko
August 11th, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
The above site was fantastic back when its sole content for months was: "NO."
Of course, unlike Shevchenko Torres was a holy terror for three years in the EPL. But he certainly fit the bill now.
August 10th, 2011 at 10:59 PM ^
UNBELIEVABLE!!! TERRIBLE, this is one of the worst officiated games I've seen in a long time.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:00 PM ^
UUUgggh. Can't believe they didn't throw him away for that. Ref sux.
August 10th, 2011 at 11:01 PM ^

August 10th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^

It's ridiculous
August 10th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^

August 10th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
