Who is Shallman like as a RB and how big can he get?
I just watched the first film of Shallman as a RB running over people and am not sure what this kid will grow into since I have not seen him in person. I would be interested in projections based on what others have seen as to how much bigger he could get.
I pulled sizes from Gerhart (I thought he was bigger) since he just ran over people last year, Jacobs since Borges made that comparison and Okoye since he was just a big dude. I was surprised to see that Shallman is likely be bigger than all of those guys. I used Scout profiles for the H.S. information. Shallman is already listed at 6'3" 248 assuming that is correct.
Name | School | Height | Weight | 40 |
Gerhart | H.S. | 6'0" | 215 | 4.5 |
Gerhart | Stanford | 6'1" | 237
Gerhart | Vikings | 6'0" | 231
Jacobs | H.S. | 6'0" | 237 | 4.53 |
Jacobs | Comm Coll | 6'4" | 257 | 4.42 |
Jacobs | Giants | 6'4" | 264 | |
Okoye | Chiefs | 6'1" | 260 |
I guess the key would be to see how much his speed can improve since the guys above are running in the 4.5 range or so we are led to believe. Borges was obviously spot on with Jacobs' size since he has coached him. I wonder how much taller Shallman could get.
You forgot Barry Sanders, Refrigerator Perry, Reggie Bush, Chris Johnson, and Jesus Christ.
Sincerely,
Fred Jackson
And Tecmo Bo Jackson...
I actually burst out laughing when I read Jesus Christ.
I think I asked this exact question in the Shallman visit reaction post and it was answered by TomVH.
Can't start a thread but Allen Trieu has his "Midwest Top 101". I figured this would be interesting to everyone on a slow day.
UM with 14 of the top 50.
Javorskie Lane. Played at Texas A&M a couple years ago. 6-1 265, with decent speed.
What happened to the Shallman visit reaction thread?
It's the second post on the front page. Unless I'm missing your sarcasm font.
Oh there it is. No sarcasm, I just missed it somehow. Thanks for posting Tom - the kid looks like a bruiser.
Thanks for the negs people! <-sarcasm
the white Earl Campbell.
was 5-11 and 244, with 4.5 speed. Another NFL stats website lists the same height, but a weight of 233.
Larry Csonka was 6-3 and 235; John Riggins was 6-2 and 230.
I think Shallman is going to be too tall to be a truly effective RB or FB, unless he runs with a large amount of body lean. He'll be ideally sized for a TE.
Campbell is one of my all-time favorite RB's, along with Payton and Sanders. The lineman back then couldn't have averaged much more than 30 pounds heavier than Campbell. To counter your argument, Brandon Jacobs is 6 ft 4, but I agree that Shallman has quite a challenge ahead of him if he still plans on sticking at RB.
Virtually every other FB I've come across is smaller in height. I don't think Shallman has nearly the running ability of either Campbell or Jacobs, but he's still got one more year of HS let alone college.
One other all-time college and pro RB who was bigger than average was Eric Dickerson, who is listed as being 6-3 and 220. He had tremendous speed once he got going in the open field.
Which is not a good thing. He was the only RB UT took a couple years back, about the same measurables. He is now, of course, a third string DE. Running backs just have a hard time when they're that big.
Tight end
6-2, 250
Played TB in H.S. at about 6'4 235lbs. Ended up being a servicable DE for four years (98-01) playing at around 280ish pounds.
He kind of looks like Peyton Hillis, and no it's not because he's white.
Maybe Shallman is like Shallman. It is hard to say "who was Barry Sanders like?" because there was no one like him, or "who is LeBron James like?" because no douche is like him either. I know that all sounds corny but it could be true.
Shallman is already in the low 250's from the latest reports. He's got two more years in H.S. And you look at him and realize he will likely put on more muscle. I just see him at some other position after he gets here. I agree with Don. Probably TE is where he may be ideal with his speed and athletic ability. Or maybe a DE. FB would be a possibility too if he doesn't get any taller.
Earl Campbell was incredible though. An amazing combination of size and speed. In the time he played, he was very unique and bigger than most other backs you had ever seen. Nowadays, big backs are fairly common.
He kinda reminds me of Michigan Robot
