November Audit of Compliance Dept Warned OSU on Cars, Equipment
Here's some more good news from Columbus. I wonder how Gene Smith could state that there was no systemic problem at OSU after the "investigation" in December.
I want to believe that the NCAA will site them for the LOIC, the improper benefits and the show/cause for the Vest. I want to see a 3-year post-season ban, loss of at least 8 schollies a year for 4 years at least.
Until I see it imposed I don't have much faith in the NCAA and the process.
the compliance dept saw, noted and passed out helmet stickers. What more do you want?
Awesome.
This shows that he knew.
A scumbag in a bow tie is just like a scumbag in a sweater vest.
Gee is absolutely beloved. Highest paid public U president in the country, Time named him BESTEST PREZ EVAH, people fellate him right and left.
I don't see him getting fired.
Maybe at some point he'll make a public show of sadly shaking his head over how those people let him down, but I think he'll be at OSU until he dies or chooses to retire. Or goes off to lead yet another in his endless string of schools, but why would he?
Strike 4!!!!!!!
unless he's Dhani Jones or Sean Connery, that is.
In November, auditors were all "you should look at cars and equipment":
The OSU auditors wrote in November that the department needed to pay more attention to athletes' cars, particularly those driven by football players, and needed more control over the inventory of uniforms and equipment.
Then Gene Smith was all, "we looked into this, and the memorabilia sales were the only thing happening. Seriously guys. Nothing to see here."
Cognitive dissonance is starting to hurt my brain.
If you don't think about it.
I'm not sure if I picked up on this before, but 9 football players were pulled over in Franklin County with dealer plates? What???? Sounds like players could drive any car they wanted off the lot without ever having to buy it. And the OSU Athletic Department basically says, "we don't know why, you should ask the players." Is this really happening?
Commence full OSU meltdown in 3 - 2 - 1 . . . .
From the Dispatch article:
"At least nine players had been issued traffic citations in Franklin County while driving vehicles with dealer license plates. OSU compliance officials said the majority of those players purchased used cars and were given a dealer license plate while waiting for the new registrations. Archie said 'you would have to ask the dealers' as to why the players' cars had hard license plates as opposed to the cardboard temporary tags that typically are issued."
This whole "gosh, we don't know why; ask the dealers" sound pretty lame when you read what that Texas player wrote about how Texas handled the cars issue (in the blog Brian linked to).
The steady trickle of information exposing the layers upon layers of lies throughout the entire "University" is simply delicious.
This makes me so glad that UM was so willing to let all the information out at once and just rip the band-aid off all at once - cheers to DB.
It's unfortunate that the Dispatch subscribes to the one sentence paragraph school of journalism that is destroying America.
So, like WTF Gene?
