but I would love to have Gary Thorne calling NHL playoffs again. Even though him and Bill Clement were Avs lovers I still prefer them. Barry Melrose was cool for a while (until he became a Red Wings hater) but I would trade him for Mickey Redmond every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
To add to that, IMO Wings games were best called by Redmond with Dave Strader over Redmond with Ken Daniels. That sucked when he left Channel 50 for the big time.
On a swift rebound.
I watch CBC soooo
2-1 ND now.
You are obviously c complete dork and tool.
Gary Thorne is the best hockey announcer on the planet and has been for some time. Melrose? What's your beef with him?
I mean, besides the fact that being on a Michigan blog you act like you have to hate everybody.
Melrose knows nothing about college hockey and you can tell. I don't think he knows much about NHL hockey either, but whatever.
Jim Hughson, Dave Strader, and senile Bob Cole are all better than Thorne. Back when Cole had all his faculties (up to about 4/5 years ago) he was the best in the world, by a huge margin.
needs more ornery
Dork and tool in one sentence by golly!
Melrose reminds me of the dudes that used to chase us 19yr olds out of Windsor bars and tell us to get back over the river, eh.
2-2. Defense optional tonight.
Quick response from MN-Duluth ties it up with 8 mins left in the first.
Why the hate for Gary Thorne? I did pbp of M hockey for student radio about 10 years ago and did a couple of Frozen Fours, and, in watching/listening to various pbp guys to try to get better, I felt like, as far as the mechanics of actually calling a game, there was no one better than Thorne. There are other very good guys, too, obviously. I just thought, as a play-by-play guy, Thorne was/is pretty damn good.
was one of the better pbp guys in sports. I prefer his style over Jim Nantz and his fake enthusiasm. I would throw Marv Alberts in there with Nantz also.
My favorite pbp guy was Tom Mees, but Gary Thorne is good for a national pbp guy. I like Ken Daniels as well, but I think that had something to do with Redmond in the same booth (my favorite hockey color guy)
He was really good! R.I.P. Mees
3-2 Duluth. Anyone flashing back to the game we played against North Dakota a couple years ago? That was what, 7-5 30 minutes in?
Gary Thorne is great at hockey, and Melrose isn't too bad. I do like them calling games, and I can't wait to hear them call the Meeechigan game tonight.
Thought, the best PBP guys are Harry Neal and Bob Cole together.
I think that's probably the root of my Thorne dislike. I had him and Cole in his prime in direct comparison. No contest.
Melrose is just a moron.
CLAP CLAP CLAP!
4-2 UMD. They look good on the powerplay.
If the refs are calling things like this tonight that's bad for us. I think we want as much 5 on 5 as possible.
UMD in the final--not saying, just, uh, saying.
Haven't seen anything in the last few minutes, can someone give a score update? Or are they at the first intermission already?
4-2 UMD at 2nd Intermission
Wow, I thought they'd be near the first. Must have thought they started later than they actually did. Is it closer than two goals or is ND lucky to be hanging on or is it somewhere in between?
the power play has hurt them and seem a little scared to be honest.atleast early on they did.
Too bad. My non-Michigan friends that care about hockey are all ND fans. I'd love to see M drub ND in the national championship game.
From everything I've heard about UND (NTUND) we need to stay out of the box, so if everything is getting called, that's bad for us. Especially since this isn't a random game before, the referees are all together with the same supervisors in the locker room.
Any time ND fails to make the championship game is a good time, because their fans' egos get inflated when they make it to the finals. Also, you should find new non-Michigan friends. I hear IU fans are cuddly and harmless now that they have the fourth-best basketball program in the State of Indiana.
IU doesn't have a (varsity) hockey program. If people here care about college hockey, it's M or ND.
about wanting ND in the title game but BD does make a good point. My neighbor is a ND fan and if they would have beat us I never would have heard the end of it.
No losing to ND would be worse than MD, but beating them would be the sweetest ever. Kind of like a M-OSU MNC game in 2006 would have been.
that 2006 game about killed me! House full of buckeye fans and me lol
Anything to bring joy to my little Hoosier friend on the board. RR didn't lose to IU either.
To get back on topic, they need to go back to Pee Wee and learn to NOT FUCKING CLEAR THE ZONE UP THE MIDDLE. They've almost gotten burned twice, and that flip wasn't exactly awe-inspiring either.
HAIL YES!!!
I really wish this game would just end. I'm too amped for Michigan to put up with this.
nice goal by ND! 3-4 UM-D
with Notre Dame."
~Bo
"Fuck Notre Dame."
~Me
Im actually cheering for ND here because that's just how annoying I find WCHA fans. I won't be able to stand it if I have to hear about the all-WCHA final.
Then again, the WCHA-sweep would be so awesome. That would be ammunition for eternity
There's a bit of Maize and Blue UMD end far side of the ice. That's encouraging.
Hello everyone, lets get this party started!!!!!!!
Where ya been, man? We've been waiting for ya!
No not really, but welcome to the party!
Just an hour out from the main event now. Go Blue!
Nothing quite as satisfying as watching the dejection of a losing Notre Dame.
I'm right with you on that Kal. ND Sux!
But not the lines you think
North Dakota -200
MICH +220
ND -1.5 goals +140
MICH +1.5 goals -130
Thinking of taking MICH plus those goals, yo
Otherwise, I cant play in the open thread. Cant watch until later and I will be about an hour or so behind y'all, but I wanted to drop in with the official lines....and offer up a loud, hearty
GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE SIOUX ARE DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pardon a dumb question from someone who has never gambled legally. I know this means we are supposed to lose, and I deduce that it should be by less than 1.5 goals. Is there any more information packed in that?
It's a spread. Basically it means they're favored by 1.5 goals. If you bet Michigan covering the spread, you're saying Michigan will lose by 1 at the most. If you bet the other way, you're saying that the Sioux win by 2 goals or more.
