OT: Lil Wayne Concert
it was an awsome concert and I saw morris and morgan there. Also I saw Draymond Green, im not sure if they were all together. All of young money was there, Rick Ross, Travis Barker, and Birdman were some of the big name guests, and of course nicki minaj.
YMCMB
On Waynes' last four albums I'd agree, but his earlier mix tape stuff was really good.
You win this thread. Lupe is a personal favorite, while Wayne is god awful. Tired of people telling me he is the best ever or best currently... Like saying Michigan State is a top 5 school academically.
The account I'm on is negged to hell but this thread is valid to my interests. I wanted to go to the Lupe concert but nobody I knew would go with me. If you think hip-hop is dead you think wrong... there is so much undiscovered music that is just so so great. Jay Electronica is fantastic- as another poster said. I reccomend a small duo from Seattle called KnowMads, or Tom Pepe (a member of KM). Odd Future (Wolf Gang Kill Them All) has been busting my speakers for weeks on end now as well.
If you honestly think hop hop is dead you dont listen.

Try:
The paxtons
Gilbere forte
J Cole
Pill
Freddie Gibbs
Drake
-those are all just up and coming. There are plenty who are still making good music, whether on mixtape or albums
Em
Jay
Rae
Ghostface
Mos
Talib
I'll have to check out the names you listed... But did you really just put Drake down? Dont know if I agree yet. Also, am i the only person who finds Nicki Minaj incredibly annoying? I hate that stuttering thing she does.
Mistakes. Much better than his album
Drake is a big no no. I was feeling J Cole at first but it actually started to get annoying at first. The last new artist I really was feeling is Joell Ortiz but he's not even that new.
He blows my mind. I have no clue how people listen to his "music." To each his own but I see absolutely no talent
Wolf Gang
The reason people think hip hop is dead:
1. Waka Flocka Flame
2. Gucci Mane
3. Oj Da Juiceman
4. Lil B
5. Birdman (Laziest raps I've ever heard)
The reason there is still hope for hip hop:
1. Lupe Fiasco
2. Wale
3. Jay electronica
4. J. Cole
5. G.O.O.D. Music (Kanye, Common, Big Sean, ETC.)
G.O.A.T.
1. Nas
2. Notorious B.I.G.
3. Jay-z
4. Tupac
5. Snoop Dogg
I'd say move Kanye to your first list, and specify 90's Snoop Dogg for your last list and I agree with you.
No EM on your G.O.A.T. list?
And has a video of lupe meeting denard, lets see if I can get it up on youtube
I agree mainstream hip hop is garbage but hip hop is not dead. The underground has never been better. Big Krit, Curren$y, Wale, OFWGKTA, Big Sean and Wiz have been putting out some really good music.
Lil Wayne doesn't get the respect he deserves, hes not in the top 10 all time but without a doubt hes up there as one of the biggest ever. Just becuase he does things a little different than the 90's doesnt mean he's not great. I think people can't recognize how good someone is in the moment.
Respect from people who know real rap music. The Carter I and II are great albums. For me he (the Wayne that's not sippin sizurp) is in the second tier right behind Jay, Em, Big, and Pac. In no particular order for those four but they stand alone at the top. A lot of other dudes are in that second tier as well. But all of them have longevity. That's what is funny for me to see names like Lupe or Wale at the top of people's list. You have to be in the game for a minute before you can even be mentioned in the same breathe as Jay and Em and those dudes. And even then it's extremely difficult. Wayne has earned the right to be in that discussion for sure.

Weezy's biggest song is undoubtly Lollipop. Lyrics:
Okay, lil mama had a swag like mine
even wear her hair down her back like mine
i make her feel right when its wrong like lyin
Man, she ain never had a love like mine
n' man i aint never seen a ass like hers
and that pussy in my mouth had me at a loss fo words
told her to back it up like erp erp
and make that ass jump like shczerp shczerp
and thats when she said i lo-lo-look like a lollipop
How in the world you could even say those lyrics tell a story is mind boggling. Plus, in my mind, I hate his voice (sounds like he has throat cancer). Maybe some early stuff from him was good, but when someone continously claims to be the best ever and calls out people like Jay-Z, I can't take them seriously. For all I know he has some mixtapes with great tracks, but that just means he sells out on his albums, which makes me lose the little respect I had for him. Lil Wayne is a joke, and if you don't see that, you need to open your eyes.
Lupe's Words I Never Said:
I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets
How much money does it take to really make a full clip
9/11 building 7 did they really pull it
Uhh, And a bunch of other cover ups
Your childs future was the first to go with budget cuts
If you think that hurts then, wait here comes the uppercut
The school was garbage in the first place, thats on the up and up
Keep you at the bottom but tease you with the uppercrust
You get it then they move you so you never keeping up enough
If you turn on TV all you see’s a bunch of “what the f-cks”
Dude is dating so and so blabbering bout such and such
And that aint Jersey Shore, homie thats the news
And these the same people that supposed to be telling us the truth
Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist
Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit
Thats why I aint vote for him, next one either
I’ma part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people.
Comparing these aren't even close. One is obviously better, tells a message and speaks about what someone is about. Hip hop and rap have a lot to do with beats, flow, and how well the song works in the end, but a huge part of how 'good' someone is depends on their message and what they're saying. Lupe Fiasco gets extra points for knowing who he is and not conforming to the traditional scene of money and drugs, but to his own personal scene of skateboarding and anime.
Is it a fair comparison to take one artist's worst work ever and compare to some of the best work of another artist? Come on, mang.
His most popular song is his worst? He's doing it wrong...
You must have come to the party quite late. Lil Wayne has been making music for quite a while. His most famous song by pop culture standards might be lollipop but to tru rap heads Wayne has put out great music. See The Carter I and The Carter II. Apparently you have a hard time listening to lyrics as well, as weezy said in the song best rapper alive, "I'm the best rapper alive, since the best rapper retired". Obviously referring to Hov, S.Carter, Jigga man, whatever you want to call him. Pay attention please. Why do you think Jay and Em have jumped on tracks with Wayne???????? Come on maaaaan.
Since when do you have to be a 'tru rap head' to know when someone is good? Name any great artist or band, I guarantee you didn't have to listen to certain tracks to claim they were great. I stated I don't like Weezy for his voice to start, but his music in general doesn't help his cause for me. I've heard enough Wayne to know I don't like him, and have never heard of a song with great lyrics (if you have one, please show me. I could easily be wrong). The fact that he doesn't have one lyrical story as a top, or even reletively known song, shows to me that he's doing it wrong.
I have a hard time listening to lyrics?
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/lilwayne/bestrapperalive.html
He never says "since the best rapper retired" in that song. He is obviously stating he's the best, which is laughable. "Pay attention please".
Jay-Z and Eminem can make tracks with anyone they want, that doesn't mean anything at all. Eminem made a song with Rihanna, does that make her great too?
It just seems odd to me that the people who like the mainstream, dumb it down music, like Lil Wayne. Maybe not causation, but there is certainly a correlation there.
So far I've seen no reason to change my mind on the subject really... He's terrible.
You must be listening to something else???
It's on the song bring it back. Same album. I don't care if you don't like Wayne. He's not my favorite rapper by any means. But some of the things you are saying is just funny.
I'm curious to know how filled up the Palace was. Me and a group of friends were going to go but when we found out tickets for the floor were $100+ and lower bowl was $90+ we bailed. We couldn't justify getting lower bowl seats for damn near as much as we spent on floor tickets for Em and Jay Z. I just really wanted to see Travis Barker do his thing again. I'm not a huge Weezy fan.
It was pretty much filled up, just looking around there were no seats empty that you could see.
Alright that's fair, but those 3 guys you mentioned are pretty darn good. So theres no shame in not being as great as them.
and you are all officially more stupid for listening to it.
I don't understand why people click threads about things they don't like solely to tell people they don't like it. You know what I don't like ? Your screen name, because Big Blue refers to Kentucky, not Michigan. Go piss and moan on a Wildcat forum.
1. Immortal Technique.
This poster is like many of my friends who ask why I listen to that music and then have me bring my Ipod to cook outs and make playlists for their wedding. Hypocrisy knows no bounds.
The future is bright for you, young Padawan.
19, but right there with you.
Most of my friends don't like him either. The ones who do at least recongize that his recent stuff has been trash. I have never been into rap though. I like Eminem and Jay-z's old stuff, Cudi's first album, some of Lupe's stuff, and that's about it.
I'm a hip-hop head who worships at the alters of Nas and the Wu and despises Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Rick Ross, but if you enjoy their music, then by all means you should listen to it.
Lasers was garbage.
1. It's not garbage at all
2. It's also not what Lupe wanted it to be
I got a car full of girls and its goin real swellllll, the next stop is the east siiiiiddeeee motellllllll
Today's rap for the most part is garbage
I miss the golden era of hip hop
Lil wayne and all the commerical rap is such BS !
they cannot even actually rap, much less put together a decent verse.
Master P and Diddy destroyed hip hop !
