Survey for ALL MGOBLOG USERS!
Hello Mgoblog users!
I am currently doing research on the nature of online communities, specifically for mgoblog.com. If you could please take this survey (<10 minutes), it would greatly help my research! I will also be sharing the results with Brian to help better the blog in the future. You DO NOT have to be a poster to participate!

(Mods, if possible, please sticky this for a few days so it doesn't get lost in 24 hours)
P.S. Took the survey.
Other.
Took the survey as well.
Forgot about the Lady Gaga option. If anyone feels that they are best described as "Lady Gaga," I sincerely apologize and hope my offenses have not made you cry or doubt your legitimacy as a gender.
I have forgiven you.
What class is this for? SI 529?
Actually for a Comm class (I know, not a real major, heard that a million times). This is legitimate research, however, and I think your responses will help Brian improve mgoblog in the future.
Noticed a lot of references to the points system. Is this a friendly prod in Brian's general direction to try to get the +/- system working again?
I can see how you might make that connection, however, no it is not. This is a research project for class and I thought it would be interesting to study how points might affect the community (in addition to some other factors). I have received Brian's permission to conduct this survey though, and I will share the results with him if he would like them.
My thought was that the points system may be detrimental (vs. a "like" for example) because it creates unnecessary competition where posting on Mgoblog is not intended to be competitive. Liking (youtube style) would probably be a better indicator of post quality imo.
a like option without a dislike option. allows people to see how much support their idea has. anyone who disagrees can write why. but it avoids some of the hostility inferred from down voting.
just an idea.
for irony's sake I should down-vote myself too.
How about I disagree and tell you why instead of negging?
I think points are a good, broad pictured symbol of who makes good points. Obviously this isn't true for people who are brand new, and some older posters are skewed too, but for the most part, if I see someone with 15,000 points saying something I'll tend to listen, where if they have -145 it's a different story. So regulating that helps the community, in my opinion.
Sounds good.
I suppose the negativity is stirred up more by what people say than anything. I do like that negs were costly, before the apocalypse, because it caused people to use them when absolutely necessary.
I didn't mean that to be a comment against the point system, anyway, only a thought about negs. And to counter my own idea, deep inside everyone's heart there has to be a little, secret love for a neg-bomb.
'Preciate the thoughtful response.
Well, between you and me we've saved Christmas.
Don't legitimize such ridiculous thoughts. With any major there are easy and difficult roads, and communication is no exception.
I mean, communication is probably one of the broadest fields out there. I'm a doctorial student in communication and all I do is read Foucault -- which is pretty difficult. I have colleagues who have never, and probably will never read him, and watch a lot of films (their still rigorous scholars though).
Oh, believe me, Comm is a very underappreciated and misunderstood major. There are quite a few classes that I've found harder than college-level calculus. Unfortunately, for the most part, the U-M student population considers Comm an "easy route." The only reason I mentioned that in my response was to prevent someone saying it, since it was bound to happen.
I mean... no offense, but "college level calculus" is not a difficult class.
Now, Theory of Calculus, on the other hand, is a difficult class.
agree to disagree.
It appears the survey's been closed. Do you plan to re-open it?
Still seems to be working for me. I'm allowed up to 5,000 responses, so that can't be the reason. I guess just keep trying and let me know if it doesn't start back up. Thanks for letting me know though!
Just took it, so it worked for me
went to take it. Says survey has been closed.
There you go.
Is this for a class?
Where is my free gift certificate to Dominick's?
No gift certificate? Sorry, thought it'd be worth a try.
Thanks, I actually have a few groupons behind me right now. Perhaps I will use one this weekend!
I remember doing similar surveys when i was in school, good luck!
Took it... Now I could go for a cookie.

They deliver.
You're welcome.
Didn't realize that was our schedule for next year. Seems to set up pretty well for a decent season if the defense can come together a bit.
I thought the same thing. There aren't any games, in my opinion, that Michigan should be clear underdogs for. They have a very good chance at winning any given game on that schedule. Especially if OSU is in disarray throughout the season.
If we can handle ND then we will be 6-0 and bowl eligible (I feel sick that I even have to care about that fact) going int EL to get revenge on Sparty. After that, our schedule lines up nicely until the last 2 weeks and we have both NU and tuos at home. 12-0? Its spring so we can dream right?
before the questionaire and some of us afterwards; the questionaire definitely influenced my choices, I now have us going undefeated...
Or perhaps you did *places pinky at corner of mouth*
Good thing the last question is just for fun.
Or perhaps it isn't and all of your answers are being cross-tabulated with your predictions for winning and losing football games. *places pinky at corner of mouth*
What if you're 30 years old? Which one do you check?
I'm sorry for that, I've fixed it on the survey for those yet to take it. Thanks for pointing that out to me!
Round up/down at June 30th.
But what if your birthday is June 30th?
Round up or down at noon on June 30th?
What if it's exactly at 12:00:00?
FIgure out how to get two cursors on the screen and hit both at the exact same time.
ooohhh....a density of the real number line issue. We could break it down to the hour, but what if you are born at noon. Or we could break it down by minute, but then what about 30 seconds, but then what about tenths of seconds, what about hundreths of a second, what about thousandths....etc etc...We should use closed intervals for the age question.
Happy to take it
Nice survey and I predict 10-2. I know maybe not optimistic enough, but this is assuming we have a serviceable defense this season.
What 2 games do you have as losses? not tuos I hope.
Did anyone else put Michigan going undeafted like i did?
who do you see our four losses coming to?
I picked ND, IOWA, NEBRASKA, and TUOS :(
