What the hell do I know, but this seems like a bad idea to me.  LB is incredibly thin next year, and if the thought is he can play this year at TE and then move back to LB, he's just lost a year of learning LB at the colledge level.  Isn't Poggi enough at that H-back spot, along with returnees?  I hope Winovich gets moved back in the Fall, or someone else gets moved to LB to replace him.

was supposed to have a unique skills mix for the LB position. I guess it reinforces the disbelief that Chris Clark did not end up here since there seems to be a lot of PT available for that position.

If Winovich and Harbaugh are cool with the move then I guess I am too. But as others have mentioned it does seem weird to take a 4* LB recruit out of that position especially when the depth will be very questionable soon.

Maybe creating opportunities for top LB recruits (2016 & 2017) to come in and compete for time immediately? *EDIT: Someone hinted at this above.

My guess is he would see little time on field this year as a LB. So why not get some help at TE. He can always go back to LB next year if we really lack for bodies there. I'm fine with it. In JH I trust.

Gedeon, Gant, McCray - backed up by Furbush and Wangler.  And an aray of supposed star 2016 LB recruits who are not here yet.

That's your 2016 LB core.  Outside of special teams or the 4th quarter vs a baby seal I dont think any of those guys has seen the field at LB other than Gedeon.

Boggled by this.  You dont have to clear out the entire roster to land a good 2016 LB so they can get playing time.  If 2016 dude doesnt wantto come to Michigan to compete with RS sophomores then why is dude playing football.  And as someone said above, flipping a guy to TE for a year than back to LB is not useful for him to develop as a LB.   3 months ago I  though the starting LB core for 2016 would be some combo of Gedeon, Ferns, McCray, and Winovich.   That quickly half are bye bye.

Just strange considering the lack of depth and elite athleticism in most of the players set to return to LB next year.  Gedeon will be the only guy with any real experience barring injuries this year.

This is very similar to how MSU used Riley Bullough( I apologize for the MSU reference).  He was redshirted his first season, and then played fullback his first year on the field.  After they graduated some guys, they moved him back to linebacker where he played quite a bit. Sometimes you just want to get your best football players on the field.  It doesn't mean they are stuck at that position permanently.

that JH has assembled and what a great improvement in coaching we will see and then we see a position change that we, who have no intimate knowledge of what the coaches see, decide that they don't know what they are doing because it doesn't agree with what we think. Fire Harbaugh!
