Why no big headlines for OSU [secondary] violations?

Brian mentioned the below link in his Blog entry, "http://mgoblog.com/content/unverified-voracity-still-vulnerable-italicized-exclamations"  These are just my thoughts and yes I need to vent!!

So let me get this straight.  OSU can break NCAA rules all over the place and nothing comes out of it.  No headlines, ESPN garble, etc.  NOTHING!!  Yet Michigan commits minor violations, which provide no advantages, occur because of lazy idiots not doing their job and the result is that RR is lamb basted and made to look unethical.  WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP!!!

Calm down.... OK.

I just hope RR and the team can wipe the floor this season and show what a real eithical, honest, and hard working coach can accomplish.  I hope RR doesn't decide this Michigan job isn't worth the hassel and leave.  I know many out there would love that but I believe he is the future for this football program and EVERYBODY NEEDS TO LEAVE HIM ALONE AND LET HIM DO WHAT HE DOES BEST WHICH IS BEING A GREAT COACH, ON AND OFF THE FIELD, AND WINNING GAMES!!!

Ok I'm done.  I said what I needed to.  Thank you.

This is out of the norm for Michigan. That is the norm for OSU. I think we might see headlines if OSU DIDN'T have a violation in a year.

Tressel knows how to stonewall the NCAA while interpreting FERPA in a way that 'forces' him to black out players' names, offenses, etc.  Convenient, eh?

Michigan had better catch up with those bastards soon enough.  I'm getting really tired of having to cite OSU's 0-9 record vs. SEC teams in bowl games when I debate OSU zombie-fans.  Or 57-43-6; a lot of them only start counting after 1950-ish, which just strikes me as hilarious.

Pro Tip:  If they're dissing Yost's 4 NCs from 1901-1904, simply say "OSU was one school that fielded a football team in the early years of the 20th Century, and Michigan kicked their asses nine times in a row."  Works every time.

OSU has the media in their market under their thumb. Their baseball coach, who retired as of not qualifying for the tournament at his own home field, has been killing arms for the last 5-7 years. The blogger for Ohio State made a post detailing the most recent loss and he got the most intense letter on what a horrible human being he must be to publish that. The Dispatch wouldn't touch a negative OSU story for all the money in the world.

Yeah, I was surprised the Dispatch would write an article as objective as this one (heavily edited source material and all).  Maybe the Wolfe family (owners of the paper) is just mad because Tressel isn't catering to their every whim with the players' records.  If so, hey, I'd be happy to watch the Dispatch and the OSU athletic department duke it out.  No one's going to look good in THAT kind of a fight.

While I love to pile on OSU as much as the next guy, I think we all need to relax a bit. Right or wrong, the media has generally chosen to ignore self reported, secondary violations. Their reason could be a simple one - the NCAA has pretty much done the same. Universities have figured out that if they self report a secondary violation to the NCAA, they are pretty much left alone with no major repercussions. Should the NCAA be doing something more? You could make a valid argument for that. Should the media being covering this more? You could also make a valid argument for that. But the media and the NCAA are not giving OSU any special treatment in this instance.

I shouldn't be telling you guys this, but you're pretty cool so I figure you'll keep it on the downlow. You want to know why the NCAA isn't all up on our jock? One word: Corvettes. NCAA investigators go wild for that shit, and ol' sweatervest knows this.
