Friendly suggestion:  You could always try the patented "Profitgoblue Silent Scream" when watching MSU games like the ND game.  It'll feel good to do "silent screams" if/when ND suceeds or MSU fails so that you can satisfy your animal urge to root against MSU but still be respectful of your family members.

If you'd asked me this back in 2005, I would've said msu in a heartbeat.  But state fans have become so obnoxious and douchey that, as much as i dislike notre dame, I just can't do it.

Congrats state fans - you've collectively been such assholes that you've driven me to root for Notre Dame.  I hope you're happy.

What's wrong with everybody!

Haven't you heard enough BS from the MSU fans and our local media in the last three years that the only justice for MSU this year would be to finish with as mediocre a record as possible and an embarrassing loss to us in their stadium.

I want the our game with them this year to be similar to the butt kicking that Iowa and Alabama put on them last year.

I want their loss to Notre Dame to start their downward spiral.

I agree with you in the sense that I could care less about MSU being undefeated when we play them.  I much prefer the very long tradition they had of taking that downward spiral through the season.  But we heard enough BS from MSU fans long before 2008.  That's moot to me.  They still run their mouths the same.

I can think of only one time where I was rooting hard for one of these teams.  I wanted MSU to beat ND in 2006 because ND had several cupcake opponents afterwards and I knew the media would start kissing their asses for "regrouping" after being blown out by us.  Remember, if you beat a bunch of unranked teams, the world could care less.  But if you beat a bunch of unranked teams and you're Notre Dame, then this is big news and front page material.

Alas, Sparty had the ultimate choke job and lost 40-37.  And sure enough, Notre Dame went on to beat all those awful teams to get an undeserved invite to a BCS bowl...where they were destroyed.

It wasn't the outcome I was looking for but I did enjoy the Sparty meltdown that followed.  And that's what you have to remind yourself of when you watch these teams play each other.  One of them HAS to lose.  And you can enjoy their tears no matter which one it is.

MSU and it's not even close for me. Being from South Bend my hatred of ND is more then even my hatred for OSU. I want to see them not only lose every week but get blown out.

Isn't this like one of those "would you rather die by drowning or falling off a tall building?" questions?  Or "you can only save one of your children from a fire, which one do you chose" type discussions?  No right answer is possible IMO.

Basically there is no way I'm rooting for either team.  Will I watch - yes.  Do i give a crap who wins (or most importantly) loses - not in the least.  I could easily make a case for either team's win (or loss) being beneficial to us depending on which side I wanted to argue for.

I'm torn between wanting to see MSU lose to an 0-2 team and wanting to see ND go 0-3 against the B1G this year. M, MSU and Purdue beating ND would definitely make me laugh.

Speaking as a semi-Purdue fan, there is absolutely ZERO chance that Purdue beats ND. Purdue barely beat Middle Tennessee State, and lost by Rice on a botched fg attempt. That team will not be able to move the ball against ND. It will be an embarrassment. And if Purdue does beat ND, I give mods the right to send me back to jail, without collecting $200.

ND...Sparty was pretty unbearable last year with their slightly above average team... don't want to think about what it would be like if they actually strung together some actual good years.

rooted for ND in my life, and that's not going to change on Saturday.  I won't exactly root for Sparty either, but rather just enjoy what should be a decent matchup.  How ND is favored by five points is a complete mystery to me though.

1. Because Notre Dame at 0-3 is simply too sweet and delicious.

2. MSU earns their just desserts next week by overlooking CMU in advance of the  first MSU butt-kicking at OSU since Nick Saban was HC in EL.

3. Irish will be de-cleated to 1-3 by Todd Graham's spread option offense and spectactularly named Tino Sunseri the following week.

But I find ND fans a bit more respectful than MSU fans (at least in Baltimore) so I would prefer to see those people happy. If ND wins, most fans out here will celebrate. If MSU wins, the one or two MSU fans I see will somehow weave in some Michigan bashing and I will be forced to drink even heavier.

I never root for ND I dont care who they are playing, dont care what sport we are talking about.  I live too close to the tarnished dome and just love hear all the lame ass excuses the domers come up with when they lose.  Besides I want little brother as cocky as can be when we bitch slap them back to reality.

We beat ND, so a win makes us look better.  Leads me to root for ND.

We play MSU next week - if they win, they are confident, but if they lose, they could go into a typical Sparty slide.  Of course the opposite could be true - playing a team after a loss can be tough.

Recruiting - we go head to head with both of these guys, BUT:  the few spots that we have left are reserved for the truly elite.  The truly elite are likely not considering MSU (zing!) so I don't think that we have many remaining recruiting battles with MSU for 2012.  ND is in a different boat, and another loss could have the same effect that RR's early struggles had and send Kelly firmly onto the hot seat (and we know how that impacts a team's recruiting).  Leads me to root for Li'l Bro.

Hate factor - I freeking hate MSU.  They really are just an annoying team with an annoying fanbase.  I can actually respect ND for their past.  Leads me to root ND.

Coaches - I can't stand the HC of either school.  But, while Kelly is a raving asshole, he has never done anything directly to Michigan, so my hate of him is less than mini-Tress.  Leads me to root ND.

On balance, I guess I am rooting for ND.

If I could actually hate a school in real life, it would be a tie between Sparty and Ohio.  Spartyfans are too obnoxious, and get waaay too much mileage out of one or two good seasons.

Besides, the last three years of Sparty winning have been living hell as a Michigan fan.  Meanwhile, ND has done what pro "wrestlers" call JTTS duty to Michigan for three years.  ND has been THE ultimate foil for Denard Robinson.  That alone makes it difficult for me to even dislike them anymore.

Meanwhile, what is there to not dislike about Sparty.  Unberable fans, constant bragging about their few winning seasons, while simultaneously whining about their "little brother" place on the food chain.  The quick transition in EL from jumpsuit orange to Sparty green still irritates me, too.

Bottom line: if I had a hemorrhoid, I would name it "Sparty."

This is kind of like the dilema I had when I watched Enemy at the Gates.  Yeah, the Soviets are our allies and all but did you see them setting up machine guns behind their own men?

It would be Notre Dame, so that we can get long deserved schadenfreude for MSU without a Michigan loss on the same day, and Valenti would have another meltdown that would be radio gold. He even said so himself he would do it if it comes to fruition.

Sparty forfeits because all their players are in jail w/o enough time for dantonio to bail them out. Notre dame suits up then doesn't have anyone to play. Then we laugh as they brag about their superiority.
