What's most obnoxious State behavior of a personal relative, friend, or co-worker?

Submitted by StephenRKass on

I've dealt with the singing of the fight song over the phone two years ago. But it sounds like a lot of you living in the state of Michigan have dealt with magnitudes worse than I've experienced. Your story?

Wal-Mart Wolverines because we both went to the University of Detroit, but are huge Michigan Fans.

Brother in law went to State and is a huge fan, but the kicker is, he walks around 365 days a year with an ND hat on and a Sparty Shirt.  I am NOT lieing....   he is a HUGE ND Fan, in addition to being a State Fan.

i kid him that is' just his way of covering himself, in case one of his teams sucks each year.  He claims int's because of his Irish Decent.   He's a piece of work!

Every MSU/UM game day for the last 8 years I have received calls to my cell every hour with the MSU fight song.

That is annoying.  However, the most annoying part is that the guilty Sparty has not fessed up and not one of my Sparty friends has told me who is responsible.

I don't work with Spartans: they work for me, and they're too afraid to say anything. So nothing there.

All my relatives are either too smart to root for MSU, or too dumb to get in there so they have no opinion. Also, we'd disown/never talk to them, so it's a moot point.

All my friends are Maize and Blue because we appreciate intelligent conversation, good beer and wine, and we don't light things on fire randomly when we don't get what we want.

So I have nothing to tell.

who posts on my facebook wall regularly with the number of days since UM beat State in either football or men's basketball.

I usually counter this behavior with a hockey reference, which usually garners a "try a sport that matters!" non-argument.

Whenever I bring up PREWB stuff to State fans, the most common response is something along the lines of "At least OUR coach isn't a criminal!" which just makes me laugh because the people in question are literally too stupid to insult.

The most obnoxious part is that this time of year all those MSU skeezes won't put out for a Michigan grad.

Damn hoes.

I just had a guy bitch to me about the "plyon call" UM got in 2008.  He said he was just hoping for a clean game with no shenanigans.

After conceding that was a horrifically egregious call which had in actuality no bearing on the outcome of the game, I simply mentioned that we know the clock will work properly because the NCAA changed the rules thanks to Spartan Bob.

He's a typical fan (of any team really)....we tend to remember the injustices against our team but seem to forgive and forget those our team benefited from.

I'm a banker and I have to help one particularly snarky State grad... In Columbus, OH of all places. Like I didn't already have to deal with all the OSU homers.

My ex in-laws are Spartans (great folks, btw).  They get together with a Michigan family each year for the game.  Over the years there have been many practical jokes back & forth before the game, including this gem:

The night before the game, the UM grad spray-paints eleven chickens GREEN, and puts them in my in-laws' yard in a crude, 8X8 chicken-wire pen.  True story.

It really annoys me when I order a pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms and the State grad that makes it uses sausage and mushrooms.   That really chaps my ass.

And then the other State grad says my pizza will be delivered in 20 minutes, but it really takes 26 minutes, and then he can't calculate the 50% discount I'm taking on that pizza.   That really chaps my ass too.

And then later, when I'm at the bar, and the bartender/State grad, despite doing a good job pouring me a fresh pint, takes my current pint with an inch and a half of malty goodness still left in it.   God that pisses me off.

I deal with on a consistent basis is my neighbor. And every thing I can't stand about him - typical conservative Dutch bigot/hypocrite, evangelizing with beer on his breath, bler bler bler -  has nothing to do with MSU.

But I lump them together anyways. It's easier mentally.

A girl just told me she didn't like my Michigan jersey, because of the player it represents.  I am wearing #3, so natually I thought she was just confused and thought that was Woodson, so I asked, "who do you think it represents?"

She replied, "Mike Hart." ...............wow.  I mean if you don't know the numbers of players on the other team that's fine, but don't act like you do and then be horribly horribly wrong

I don't know why we keep having these dumb threads.  Post your favorite stupid Sparty tricks.  Post the most annoying things you've read.  If I wanted to be pissed off by more retarded Sparty behavior than usual, I'd just go read that shithole the RCMB for an hour.

The Sparties on the radio are by far the worst.

I don't listen to sportsradio in Metro Detroit at all anymore, other than Tigers or Red Wings games while they're being broadcast. Pat Caputo, whose homerism is fine when he's talking about any of the local pro teams, turns into vitriol -- or did c. summer 2009 when he said on a Limbaughean evening call-in session that "I just love making Wolverine fans squirm," forcing me to pull over in rage, and turn off Detroit sportsradio for good. You know all the others, especially a certain moronic prick in the afternoons. I don't listen to any of them anymore because of how much they rag on Michigan.

How many cities are there in the country where one half of the fanbase gets hated on so consistently by the entirety of local radio?

This drives me absolutely nuts. I'm a major hometown sports fan, and yet there's no sports radio I can listen to without hearing "Walmart Wolverine" repeated ad nauseum between long segments of utter B.S. about my team's head coach. At least markets like Chicago and New York have multiple stations for their split allegiances. Detroit has one of the most storied programs in college football, yet the local sportsradio is entirely made up of anti-Wolverine polemics.

Most likely it's my dad, an MSU alum, yelling at me every time they win in any sport over Michigan.  One of my favorite Michigan moments was when Michigan was down 28-7 to MSU and I had him yelling at me every second only to see Michigan come back and win overtime.  LOVED IT.
