We just have to acknowledge they are a better team.
We got a fair whistle. Shot and defended reasonably well.
They just wore us down.
Oddly, I believe getting worn down usually shows up on defense, but for us, it seems to show up on offense where we stop cutting and settle for jump shots too much.
I actually do not agree. These are two very even teams where any team could win a given game. They are not clearly a better team.
What other evidence than losing to them 3 times do you need for them to be a better team?
These games have been coin flips. You can have tails three in a row - doesn't make it better than heads.
Yeah, we blew a double digit lead, but Call the foul on Poole's 3 point shot. 10 sec left (or whatever). If not that, the reach in 2 seconds earlier. If not that, the very suspect overturned court Michigan out of bounds call at 12 seconds. This was two great teams playing, the game should have been evenly called. When you can find 2 obvious miscalls and a questionable within the last 12 seconds, you've got issues.
Actually hilarious that Michigan called me earlier today for money. I was like, look, I have very little ability to persuade Michigan to do anything, my money is about it, so until our AD starts getting a little more forceful on how things are questionably one sided, you aren't getting a dime from me, love, ya, bro, but tough love.
Sweet girl on the phone and she assured me that yada yada, and it's not like I'm a super donor so they even listen to me, but...here we go again
It is useless until Denaly is gone. That’s why I stopped watching BIG Basketball game two three years ago. One more year to wait until he is gone.
this game wasn’t the refs’ fault. we choked against msu, for the 3rd time in 3 weeks. stagnant offense. mental lapses on defense, and state hitting lucky shots at the end. we got screwed in el, but this was a fair result. we deserve the loss. and poole seems to crumble under pressure - which seems odd for a guy who hit one of the clutchest shots in um basketball history
Go fuck yourself Detroit Blue. If you really are a UM fan and not a troll, please consider taking a swim in the Detroit River today while holding a box of signed Cassius Winston basketball programs. Might help you build some much-needed strength and character.
sounds good tough guy
Nah I agree with Luke, you clearly have a desire to ride Izzo and Winston's cock. Michigan got absolutely fucked by the refs in all 3 games against MSU this year.
dumb and homophobic - real winner here
lol don’t even go there, as if your pathetic ass is gonna play the moral outrage card on a comment about riding a dick, which I might point out can be done by a heterosexual woman as well as a homosexual man and makes no judgment on orientation
Only Michigan’s fan base loves to bathe in the melancholy of a loss by blaming the players, who played their hearts out and got absolutely fucked over by multiple bullshit calls down the stretch, and an utterly egregious foul discrepancy in the most important part of the game. For the second time in two weeks.
i’m not morally outraged. i’m not even surprised. there’s a strong correlation between an inability to come up with intelligent, rational thought and basically calling someone a ‘fag’ for disagreeing with you. you can’t make an actual point so you resort go insults, and homophobic ones at that.
oh, and that ‘egregious’ foul discepancy: 11-10. like i said already, we got screwed in the regular season finale but this was just a choke job on our part.
i get it, you’re upset at another loss; we all are. but grow the fuck up and quit blaming everything on somebody else. this loss is on the coaches and players and nobody else.

Basically calling someone a “fag”? I didn’t call you a fag. You’re still trying to paint the comment as homophobic when it wasn’t, in an attempt to smear me and accuse me of an unforgivable sin so that you can try to claim the moral high ground.
You proceed to tell me to “grow up” and “quit blaming everything on someone else” and then proceed to blame Beilein and the players. I don’t know if it makes you feel better to think that Michigan deserved to lose, but that seems to be a theme around here. Everyone must bask in the melancholy of the loss and not call out utter bullshit officiating.
The foul discrepancy was egregious because of when the fouls were called, and how. Michigan is #5 in least fouls committed per game and MSU isn’t even in the top 100, yet we’ve outfouled them 3 times. The officials swallowed the whistle in the games against Iowa and Minny and then chomped on them with MSU. But it wasn’t just the key foul calls. The overturned out of bounds that was nowhere near indisputable was just as bad. And the worst of all, Winston intentionally trying to commit a foul and getting a pass. If Michigan makes a 3, gets a stop on defense, and wins in overtime, which was a perfectly likely outcome at that point, would you still be on here smearing the coaches and players about how much they choked?

you said i wanted to ‘ride izzo’s dick’. was that a compliment? it sure didn’t seem to be. did you assume i am a woman? seems unlikely.
you used a sexual act/the desire to perform a sexual act (a ‘gay’ one, at that) as an insult - hate to break it to you fucknuts, but that is the definition of homophobia. that doesn’t require any ‘painting’ or interpretation on my part, you managed that all on your own by trying to be an internet tough guy.
also, since your comprehension of the english language seems spotty at best - i didn’t blame anyone ‘else’. i put this loss on the coaches/players who continually over-rotated on defense to give the other team’s best shooter wide open 3 after wide open 3. there is literally nobody else on earth who is responsible for that other than our players and coaches. you on the other hand blame the refs, because it’s easier to do that than admit that our biggest b-ball rival and little brother has beaten us 3 times (two of which for championships).
also, since we’re talking about english - you said the foul ‘discrepancy’ was egregious. you didn’t say a number of horrible calls were made to msu’s benefit. a 1-foul discrepancy over the course of 40 minutes is, by definition, not ‘egregious’. you make iditiotic points and can’t even manage to stumble on the right words to get your point across. so congrats on being stupid, even by mgoblog standards, which is saying something
you should start cheering for penn state - they never lose either, they only get fucked by the refs
March 18th, 2019 at 10:46 AM ^
Saying you want to have sexual relations with Izzo and Winston makes no judgment on sexual preference, the judgment is against your affinity for Michigan’s rival. If Izzo and Winston were women, you’d want their vaginas.
Once again you’re claiming to take the moral high ground when you don’t have it, and then to top it off you call me “fucknuts” and resort to the same sort of name calling you accuse me of doing. You’ve engaged in just as much incoherent rambling as I have, and yet you call me “stupid” because you don’t agree with the spirit of my argument.
Also my comprehension of English is fine, it’s you who clearly doesn’t understand the words you’re typing. I hate to break it to you, but you’re a fan, you have no role in Michigan’s success or failure. So blaming the players rather than the refs is not “taking ownership”. You’re just choosing to blame the people who played their hearts out while ignoring the egregious errors made by the officials.
I already explained why the foul discrepancy was egregious. The discrepancy is not in the raw, out of context numbers. What is so hard for you to understand about that? The other calls that went against us are bonus evidence that Michigan got fucked.
Why does it make you feel better to shit all over Jordan Poole and Beilein, who were the victims of yesterday’s officiating travesty? Because as a fan, that’s all you’re doing when you lay the blame on them and not the refs who failed to do their jobs correctly.
March 18th, 2019 at 11:17 AM ^
‘discrepancy’ - ‘the state or quality of being discrepant or in disagreement, as by displaying an unexpected or unacceptable difference;inconsistency’.
you said ‘egregious foul discrepancy’ when the ‘discrepancy was 1 fucking foul (10-11) over 40 minutes. you didn’t say ‘2 or 3 really bad calls were made’ you explicitly cried about the ‘discrepancy’ which was a whopping 1. keep telling me how well you understand english, fucknuts.
words have specific meanings, fucknuts. you should learn them if you want to pretend to know what you’re talkinng about
Wow you responded again? This time with two mentions of "fucknuts"? I explained what the discrepancy was. It was in the way the fouls were called, not the number. I am not totally sure why you are having trouble understanding that, or why you're so determined to carry on this argument where you're just blaming the players and Beilein and letting the refs off the hook, when they clearly failed to do their jobs correctly.
Every word he wrote was true dude
So the fact that the refs who were letting teams play the entire tournament decided to start calling ticky tack fouls against us in the 2nd half of the championship game doesn't matter?
Oh yeah and the poor calls at the end of the game...
Look, we imploded once again, but that doesn't excuse the refs from fucking up.
The fact that you are using “us” and “we” tells me you are holding on too tight.
okay
40 minute basketball games are not equivalent to coin flips.
When one player on a team has an anomaly of a game shooting/scoring than it can be. That’s what happened today. A fringe G league bench player had the night of his life.
And the other team failed to make adjustments to stop the fringe G league player.
You’re right, he still had by far a career night shooting both in volume and efficiency.
A 42% 3 point shooter made 7 3's (53%) because we gave him 13 open looks. That's not an anomaly, that's bad D.
So you think a player that averages 6.0 points per game for his career putting up 27 isn’t an anomaly? Ok gotcha.
I call it not adjusting on defense.
He’s also a .393 3P% shooter for his career.
A Division 1 basketball player that's a good 3 point shooter that gets left wide open multiple times can make most of them? Who knew? He doesn't have games like that because no one else is dumb enough to leave him wide ass open all game.
He averages 6.0 per game for his career. He did a spike albrecht impersonation on steroids.
Except, you know, that part where Louisville made some second half adjustments on Spike. Michigan didn't do anything at all on McQuaid all game, and MSU took advantage of a hot hand.
If someone keeps punching you in the face, maybe figure out a way to stop them from doing that.
I never said Michigan defended him well, it still doesn’t change that he had an abnormal volume at an abnormal efficiency.
How many fouls has poole given up on the three point line???
I can think of three of the top of my head. . .
He got punked by that fucking tool that can only launch 3's
If the team was clearly "superior", then why did they trail the majority of the game (and only retake the lead in the final 2-3 minutes)?
Because Jordan Poole is a dumb ass.
They are when the teams have equal likelihood of winning.
Usually this arguement states "using a fair coin". Teams are not coins.
Matthews to play all 3 games.
March 18th, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
Matthews played in 2 of the 3 games and you could argue he barely played in any of them. 1 for 8 in the first match-up, 1 for 3 in the third and didn't play in EL due to injury. Not what you'd like to see from CMatt and well below his averages.
Just so we’re on the same page, what’s my excuse when I show up to work tomorrow? Fouls were 11 to 10 FT were even. Izzo didn’t run on the court. Winston didn’t get phantom fouls. I’m at a loss.
Is MSU just better?
skip work and save us from you asking more questions.
Just say they choked. Just like at Crisler. Got beat at Breslin. Better team won all three. Affirms my thoughts of first weekend exit. Football better win. That Bell guy should shut down his twitter for a while.
@mineral king Ronnie Bell around the next few weeks? Asking for a friend.
Captain obvious and Nostradaumus at the same time. Tell us more.
he got one phantom foul - the and-1 in the 2nd half, but that’s not why we lost. our guys (particularly poole) seem to crumble under pressure. this loss really stings, but there’s nobody to blame except us
Winston got a phantom call on a drive to the basket and an "and 1" in the second half. Wasn't touched but refs gave him the call and a 3-point play. Every play was huge so don't say Winston didn't get a phantom call.
And was it Winston or McQuaid that was the beneficiary of the reach-in that wasn't a reach-in? Fouls weren't even with the game on the line. MSU got the benefit of every call.
Normally I do not blame a close loss on poor officiating.
But when in 3 games in a 4 week period, every damn call in the final 2 minutes goes MSU's way, I'm wondering what the hell's going on.
Maybe JB should take some cues from Tommy Frazzo on how to win friends and influence Referees.
I was at game. It looked like he got 2 phantom fouls; the and 1, and when he lost the ball and got to shoot 1 and 1. That play was huge. We would have had a fast break layup by Z there. Big 4 pt swing. But that is about the best we can hope for against sparty. They will not get those calls in the tourny and we should get even refs.
March 18th, 2019 at 12:37 AM ^
In the final 10 minutes of the game MSU had a 13-1 point advantage from bad or questionable calls. (Does not include the bad ‘and 1’ for Winston since that was earlier )
it does include Teske getting fouled on the dunk that almost missed plus 6 other calls
