@ egrgoblue:  I keep pretty close tabs on EGR having spent the first 50 years of my life there and in the adjoining GR Ottawa Hills district.

Neither do I recall EGR ever being put on probation for anything.

I personally know Pete Stuursma (presently head coach at Hope College), and you won't find a guy with a cleaner whistle than Pete's during his glory years as head football coach at EGR.

@ BeatOSU52:  You're either making this stuff up or your 'West Michigan Sources' are.  My source is a daughter in law who has worked in the Lowell Schools main office for over 20 years.  She catagorically states that Noel Dean never asked for, or was granted a request to hold any student back for any reason - athletic or academic.

The Lowell School system serves the City of Lowell and Lowell Township.  There has been some reclassification of land from the Township to the City, but nothing involving redistricting of students from any of the adjoining small towns and townships.

Poor Lowell.  Their coach…

Poor Lowell.  Their coach Noel Dean, retired after the last of his 4 athletically-gifted sons graduated from Lowell in 2016.  He still teaches in the Lowell schools, and was persuaded to return as the Lowell coach for the 2019 season.

Anyone agree with me that UM would take 3 out of 4 from the current rendition of the Tigers ?

Now that's a heck of an idea MGlo.  UM should establish a YouTube channel with streaming recent sporting events, combined with an index of great Lectures and/or Campus speeches.

I might even pay for something like that.

The Band uniforms behind the Yea Girl would indicate that we were playing ND.

Thank you Pharker for posting this very delightful video about Dr. Mason.  I've had the pleasure of attending several of her performances and presentations during my years in Ann Arbor.

I don't have a musical bone in my body, yet I am always taken to a higher plane of existence when I hear a great organ played well.

Unfortunately, that Rose…

Unfortunately, that Rose Bowl film clip doesn't show UM's most deceptive play . . the 'Buck Lateral'.

The play would start with Weisenberger doing his spin fake with Chappius.  Then he would run towards the line and hand the ball off to Yerkes, who had spun around and was standing with his back to the LOS.

Yerkes could then pitch the ball back to the wingback, Bump Elliott, who would then be running a wide sweep reverse . . OR

Yerkes could throw a backwards pass to Chappius, who after his spin fake with Jack had run out to a spot 5 or 10 yards outside the strong side end.

Chappius then had the option of running with it, or throwing a pass - usually deep to someone like No. 41, Gene Dericotti, a tremendous athlete.  (See Rose Bowl Clip)

I'll bet you're thinking 'There's no way this thing could work', but it did.  The defensive players were so completely confused that it usually resulted in a big chunk play, and/or a TD.

How right you are Unsalted.  I grew up in GR, but our family always spent 2 weeks in July in a big cottage up on Stickney Ridge.  Damn, what fun we had.

Normally I do not blame a close loss on poor officiating.

But when in 3 games in a 4 week period, every damn call in the final 2 minutes goes MSU's way, I'm wondering what the hell's going on.

Maybe JB should take some cues from Tommy Frazzo on how to win friends and influence Referees.

I had a feeling McDork was going to go off on us before the game even started.

Of the 5 guys on the floor why would you ever choose to leave him 25 feet open at least 20 times during the game?

During the last 3 minutes of the game, think of the difference it would have made if Matthews had played him man to man.

YES.  I attend the home games, plus those in EL.  I read everything Hockey that you folks post.

FB is my number 1 interest, but I would say that Hockey is number 2.

Right on PopeLando.  It isn't that JH or Pep haven't developed a potentially explosive offense, it's that they seldom opt to use it.

The one area that we had a huge advantage over OSU was on deep pass plays.  We had our 6'3' or more WRs going against a bunch of less than average DBs ranging in size from 5'9" to 6'1".  We scored twice going deep (should have been 3 but for Gentry's 'scape-drop') and we dain to take advantage of this discrepency when a win was still within reach.

Whoever was calling the plays should have capitalized on this advantage on our opening set of downs after halftime.  A score then could have substantially changed the momentum of the game.

And mucho thanks to the MGoBlog Crew.  I read you guys every day, and always find a couple of "that reply could only be posted on a Blog like this' in the mix.

Quite a view from the top

In the early 90's I was taken on a tour of the actual Carillon (the top floor).   I was surprised that the GM Headquarters, the spires of the Bridge to Canada, and 2 or 3 other tall buildings were clearly visable from up there.

I agree with you Treetown

I agree with you Treetown.  If Devon had been under Harbaugh's coaching for 3 years he would have had a very different and more successful career. . . as a wide receiver.

Unfortunately this fine young man never had the vision and thus the accuaracy to be a passer in higher levels of participation.  His outstanding athletic skills were wasted by a coaching staff that kept trying to make him into something he could never be.

I am certain that  Devon will be a very successful human being once he starts using his most valuable personal attributes. . . i. e., an outstanding personality, well above average intelligence, and his UM degree.

Teeing up the ball

WD:  Don't mean to be overly picky, but the young lady teeing up the the ball is 2nd baseman SIERRA ROMERO, the best all-around player in all of NCAA Softball.

She also holds the national record for most career Grand Slams.
