just really curious why winning this year seems to be so crucial for UM recruiting wise, while Notre Dame has been basically just as historically awful in recent years, yet still able to reel in high end recruits after losing a game.  What gives???

the last thing kelly would promote in the south would be the advantage of attending a catholic school.  he can legitimately talk about their academic prowess, their athletic tradition, and diverse student body but he would be treading dangerous ground were he to pitch their religious affiliation.

Definitely less diverse than Michigan from a race/ethnicity perspective, at least.  78.2% of students at ND identify themselves as white or caucasian, while only 65% of Michigan students do so.  Michigan has higher percentages of Asian, African-American, and International students, while ND has more Hispanics (guessing b/c they're a Catholic school).

My guess is Tuitt committed to ND because

1. He likes the coaches and the team members, and feels he's a good "fit" with them.

2. He believes he will see the field immediately, and could be a four-year starter (or three or whatever) in a high-profile program, thus enhancing his prospects at the next level.

3. He thinks he will receive a quality education, which he in fact will, assuming he applies himself.

My other guess is that at no time during the recruiting process did the name of god, Jesus, or any other divinity enter the conversation.

It's new coach syndrome. Even though they've been down, Kelly can sell a lot of things because it's his first year. Their recruiting class is really good though.. I wish we had an equally strong defensive class, especially on the D-line.
