Stueber on the D: "They show a bunch of stuff”

Senior offensive lineman Andrew Stueber told reporters on Wednesday. “They’ll make adjustments; they’ll make switches. A lot of unexpected stuff keeps happening that I’ve never seen before — that I’ve never seen our players do

Thanks for the link.  That was my first and probably last board post. I come here to talk football and haven't seen much in the last few weeks/ months.  Just looking for some chatter about the team and who's hopeful. I can tell most people in this board are not.  That's ok but it's a new season and everybody is 0-0.

It'll be fun to see what the new defense looks like and how each week the scheme is slightly different and if they have enough time during the week to play it at a high level. In the NFL they have more time to focus in on scheming for each team.

I’m excited about MacDonald.

I think we have a really smart tactician that is going to coach the kids in scheme in a way they understand.  He communicates well.  The Ravens were the leading pressure D in the NFL.

This D has some serious high level ability in Dax, Gemon, Hutch, Mazi, Hinton, Upshaw, Ojabo,  surrounded by experience in Barrett, Ross, Hawkins. Let’s hope DJT breaks out this year.

This should be a productive defense.

I too like Macdonald but I am concerned his lack of experience will result in some bad games. I'm sure he is as every bit as smart as they say he is but he will be facing off against offensive coordinators that have been in the game for decades. Experience is extremely valuable in football and I'm sure there will be growing pains as he learns firsthand. Hopefully it doesnt mean he gets overwhelmed

"Clear minds make fast legs"

I moved between my sophomore and junior years. I had always started both ways including my freshman year when we had 95 kids on the team. The varsity coach at my old school said I was going to be all conference. When I moved they had me starting during training camp because I was a great blocker in drills.  Unfortunately for me, my new school ran a different scheme and I didn't know who to block or at least not right away.  I ended up losing my starting spot to a Senior who had been there all four years.  I started the next year, but had I known the system I would have been far better off.

True but what do want him to say?

"Hey it's really nice that this year our defense is acting like they've got a collective brain in their head and actually reacting to what the offense shows them.  Last few years a blind 13 year old girl who's never seen football in her life could figure out in about three plays what we were doing and adjust her offense accordingly.  We stuck to our game plan like Moses himself brought it down the mountain on fucking tablets or something."

At this point, it is all on Harbaugh.

After the 2017 season Harbaugh admitted the team did not see enough looks from the defense during practice to prepare the offense for games. Harbaugh even said he knew it in the first game when Speight overthrew a pass over the middle because he was confused by a basic zone Florida was playing.

Steuber is basically saying the same thing now after the 2020 season.

At least four years worth of players coming through the program getting crap coaching and not being put in a position to succeed. I'm not pissed for myself. I'm pissed for the players who put everything they have into Michigan and are not getting what they deserve out of it.

Preach Brother Preach.  We do / did a decent job of recruiting talent, but they do not get developed properly by Harbaugh and his coaches.  Harbaugh apologists do not even tell me about the number of players drafted, as many were drafted often in lower rounds based on talent, not on how well they could have played or performed on the field.  So he and his staff have done a disservice to these kids all the while raking in Dabo / Saban size paychecks!!!!

Yes, but that was because people here don't know football. Seth is much more informed now but he wrote that article about "Mike before you hike". Space Coyote tried to warn us but we didn't listen. He talked about how different coaches have different systems. It doesn't have to be the QB doing the IDing.

Isn't that what a fan is all about? Being excited for the new season? Trying to get as much information about the team as you can? Especially with all the new coaches in the defensive side of the ball? I'm very optimistic that the defense looks much better then the past 2.

I'm one who's finally learned.  And I go back to being a fan in the mid 70's.  I don't really give two shits about what I'm hearing anymore prior to the season start.  I'm at the point now where I just need to see the team's on-field performance in real games drastically improve before I even will begin to get excited.  Until I see some kind of toughness and spirit from the players and coaches, better preparation, and far better play calling, I'm going to continue just counting the days until the basketball season.

Let's see it in the games first and then I might be interested.

And then that doesn't even mean shit nowadays.  There's an all too familiar pattern of Michigan will beat up on Western and Hawaii, a couple of lower rung B1G teams... to be 4-1, 5-0 heading into better competition.  And then a stiff breeze hits Michigan and they fold.

Then the Harpologists come out of the woodwork saying Michigan is better off, who would you get Michigan to coach the team, and but but but but 9 and 10 win seasons.

This guy gets it.

But there are a number of posters in here who would rather question someone's fandom because someone else is knocking their emotional investment.

I was there too.  I get it.   And then I gave up my season tickets.  Then I started doing shit on Saturdays.  I'll catch a DVR'd game maybe on Sunday or on a plane ride but my life is no longer affected by the football team.

I'm going to continue just counting the days until the basketball season.

...and for any other sport at Michigan which is entertaining (which is most of them aside from football right now).

Just trying to add some actual football content. Maybe if they disguise a few things we won't get bombed by every mediocre team throwing up bombs to open wr's. Maybe it'll be harder to discern who to block and get some free rushers or the linebackers can get to the ballcarrier without having to fend off blockers.

Maybe this is why Milton looked so good in fall camp last year. The defense did only one thing and they couldn't do that one thing well. The defense last year made every qb we played look all world.

If he just let's go control of the offense. I would like to see what Gattis has. Just be the ceo/figure head. Show some fire in the sidelines get the team pumped to play and let the other coaches call the game.

He's shown the ability to change what he does. In sf he went from Alex Smith more a game manager type quick passing to kap and read option. In college I think he had a duel threat by name of Josh Johnson then to Andrew luck at Stanford.

Just wishful thinking on Harbaugh.  The problem is he clearly isn't the same person as he was back in the days when he got into it with opposing coaches after the game.  He has not been showing much fire on the sidelines over the past 3 years for whatever reason.  And the team has looked much of the time like they're uninspired and/or have little faith in the coaches.  I certainly hope that he turns things around somehow, but the trend is not good.
