It is still hard to believe that DB didn't have someone lined up before letting RR go and make us look ridiculous AGAIN.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
fucking right.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:20 PM ^
When DB decided to let RR go or was thinking about letting RR go, didn't he do what most smart teams do? Like a "draft board" of which candidates that may be available and the strengths and liabilities of each prospective candidate? Then systematically contact them once he knew that RR had to go??? Or is that way too logical and organized?
I read the SI article on how TCU beat Wisconsin. Patterson's stock went up in my eyes when I read that. Smart coach, reacted to well to the situation. Number 1 ranked defense in the country. And we never contacted him? I cannot understand during this slow-motion fiasco the last few weeks is why we were so hell-bent locked onto JH? It's like freaking tunnel vision.
So instead of going after an excellent coach who never said "I'm a TCU Man for life", we went after the Michigan Man who spurned us for the Niners??????
Now we're just like the guy at the dance who thought he could score easily because of his reputation but instead after all the attractive women go with other guys, now has beer goggle.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
We can't have Patterson or Gruden. They're not Michigan Men! They don't understand the traditions of the #1 jersey and the importance of the Ohio State game. We need someone whose blood runs Blue… Hey, I wonder what Bo's son Glenn Jr. is up to these days?

I'm really not that against Les coming to Michigan. I prefer him over Hoke by a long shot.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
lol at everyone's panic. It's pathetic.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
People freaked with Bo (Bo WHO?), thought Mo was good but got in a barfight, and thought Lloyd was going to be too soft. I'd be afraid if everyone thought whoever the next coach is would be perfect. Everyone forgets how hot a commodity RichRod was when we landed him (spurned Alabama before we got him).
January 7th, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
How much everyone hated him. Because of his accent.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:49 PM ^
How much everyone hated him. Because of his accent.
Who, Rich? I swear that I never heard a single person in the state of Michigan say a word about his accent. On MLive or ESPN? Sure, but if you look at those spaces as the general opinion of the program, it's kind of a huge stretch.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
My senior year, when he was hired, people did make fun of his accent and complain that he seemed like a "slimy hillbilly." Pretentious, arrogant, and silly, yes. An isolated minority? Maybe. But they definitely did exist.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
January 7th, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
I know a guy who constantly called him a "hillbilly" and would ask "How could anyone take a like that serious with his hillbilly accent?" A friend of mine told me he sounded like a "hick". Maybe it wasn't widespread but it definately existed.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
Signed through 2018 according to a release from the university. Brandon waited too long to contact him if Patterson was even on his list.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
Been too long since I've seen this. Can you aim one toward LA to keep anyone from leaving?
Edit: what happened to the splosion?
January 7th, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
I aimed it at San Diego...look up, but look away....
January 7th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
say hello to Miles/Hoke.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
That's it--we'll just get both of them and show everyone. People thought we couldn't find a coach and we'll hire two just to prove them wrong.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
Miles at HC and Hoke at DC/coach in waiting seems as close to ideal as you can get when discussing the two of them.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:34 PM ^
The "coach in waiting" concept is an abomination.
January 7th, 2011 at 11:25 PM ^
That's why we'll use it.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
Everyone who screamed Fire RR bc Harbaugh would TOTALLY come now, rather than admit their own haste, just blame DB. unreal
January 7th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
The fact that anyone is blaming anyone for anything when nothing has yet to happen is unreal to me.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:42 PM ^
Why? What is apparent from all of this is that DB did not have solid plan in place. While he might pull something out (looking less and less likely though) the point is that we should never have been in a position where we had to rely on a hail mary in the first place.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
that may be apparent but it doesn't mean it's true. If we don't have a coach by next week then I'll be worried. I'll only demean myself with the panic that the majority of this board has resigned itself to when we're losing to Western Michigan come September.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
I don't think any blame is going on, folks just want to see some progress. Other organizations are dealing and wheeling while we remain silent.
January 8th, 2011 at 1:48 AM ^
You really think nothing is happening beause you can't see it? That's right, you're the swamy, I forgot.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
That is the problem.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
I think everyone expected Rod to not be fired if Harbaugh wasn't essentially already signed. Hearing DB resigned to the fact that he was headed to the NFL was...unreal
January 7th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
If we didn't get slaughtered by Miss. St...I imagine RR would still be here.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
I think you're right about that. But we did.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
I think that it is reasonable to believe that DB didn't make any moves before the bowl because he wanted RR around as a back up plan.
This was absolutely a horrible idea. Even if the media speculation and fan chatter hadn't grown to deafening levels, how the hell could he come out and say, "ok, I guess you can stay around for at least one more year." DB hung RR out to dry.
He was a dead man walking. He knew it. The team probably sensed it. Is it really that much of a surprise that the team laid an egg in the bowl game?
January 8th, 2011 at 12:14 AM ^
If that were true...
How does that explain the Stanford game also a man leaving, How does that explaing the Florida crew knowing Meyer is leaving, how does it explain the Michigan team in Carr's last game?
He gave up on them I guess
We can debate what one more year would have brought for sure but I think it would have been just one more year wasted
January 7th, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
I am of the thought that RR needed to go regardless. Amongst other factors, the relationship was too toxic. No matter who the hire is, I believe a new start is the right move.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:46 PM ^
January 7th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
The screaming for RR's head after the bowl game when most people thought JH was the most likely get for UM was just a touch louder than the screaming now about DB and his "lack of a plan" or whatever kind of nonsense these fans come up with.
January 8th, 2011 at 1:52 AM ^
and it really started in earnest after Penn State. There were some here who expected an announcement from DB the following Monday, it just grew with Wisconsin and Ohio State.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
January 7th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
"Oh, we're afraid to go with RichRod. We might get in trouble. Well, just kiss my ass from now on! Not me. I'm not gonna take this! Rosenberg, he's a dead man! Freep, dead! Who's with me?"
January 7th, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
They took the whole fucking bar!!
January 7th, 2011 at 8:53 PM ^
I'll try to remember to +1 you when the option comes back.
January 9th, 2011 at 12:07 AM ^
Done.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:13 PM ^
That looks like Brady Hoke!
January 7th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
Thank you.
That will make me feel .00000001% better when Brady Fucking Hoke is introduced as Michigan's new head football coach.
It might make all the difference.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
With the 2012, Mayan Prophecy of Doom approaching. This time next year, we aren't going to care who our coach is... what with having to deal with that pole shift, killer solar flare, ebola pandemic, and of course the zombies.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
At this point I'll take someone crazy like Mike Leach. It's like digging up a dead Ronald Reagan and making him president. Nobody fucks with you if they know you're nuts.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:32 PM ^
Leach's Red Raiders were just hit with sanctions for recruiting violations. I'm not sure anybody will take a shot on him.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
That is pretty awesome. Little concerned that nobody in Tiger Country is heartbroken over him leaving, but ah well. Better than Hoke.
