POSITIVE Article on Coach Rod

Submitted by DrWolverine23 on

I think this is an excellent article on Coach Rod, and a nice read, ...... more so there is less than one day till the bowl game! Go Blue!

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/556216-rich-rodriguez-10-more-reason…;

....furthermore, there are many fine points on why Coach Rod deserves another year. But let that not be an invitation for the Harbaugh crowd and Rodriguez crowd to go at it.

                                                    The future 2012 - what a bummer

Denard Robinson made his first visit to Times Square this weekend. It didn't take long before his name was up in lights on Broadway.
Florida University's star quarterback won the Heisman Trophy in a landslide vote Saturday night.

It's obvious that this guy knows tons about football. Not only does he call UF "FU," but he has Denard transferring to a school whose new coach is going to start installing a pro set as soon as the bus gets back to Gainesville. Maybe he should use Albert Einstein as his avatar.

I see RR as a good man who has so many things thrown against him. As a coach I say give him 1 more year. His system works but his Defense doesn't. I just hate seeing all the bickering by all the fans. Support our team, the kids deserve it they work hard. I believe in our team. Go Blue

Future if Rich Rodriguez remains as coach - 2012 -

Michigan today set the college football record for most yardage put up in a season, and with their 63 points against rival Ohio State, broke the record for most points scored in a season. The team led by front running Heismen trophy canidate Denard Robinson will be playing Olahoma in the National Championship game.

Our fate is in your hands Brandon.

Bleacher Report doesn't do "articles;" it does fan posts. I almost went to read this one, but when I hover my arrow over the link, it says "10 reasons why...." I hate having to click eleven times to read one fan post. It gets them a lot of clicks, though.

...one of the few articles to see things from Brandon's perspective (point #10) and actually acknowledge the huge risk that he would be taking by making a change right now. Harbaugh is not a guaranteed panacea...he's just the hot coach of the moment and there's a new one of those every year.

Personally, I think that all of the silence has been more of a strategic gamemanship attempt to potentially allow M to go after Harbaugh (or others) next year if the Wolverines were to stagnant with another 7-5 type season (with losses to rivals).

This is weird but while driving into the office today there was a rather pleasant & inspiring song on the radio and halfway into it I realized that it was the "You raise me up" Josh Groban song that all the media was snickering at last month. This was the first time I had ever heard the song and it was much better than I had expected. It was also a bit surreal because that radio station (out of neighboring island St Martin) is usually non-stop reggae, socca, zouk, and other Caribbean music.

Also, I found $70 while on my morning run today. I don't really believe in "signs"...but I'm definitely feeling optimistic about things right now. Go Blue!

I think I really gave you a +1 because you found 70 bucks while running. That's awesome. The noteworthy things I have found on runs include a dead scorpion and a wad of toilet paper that looked like someone had actually wiped a poopy butt before tossing it out of their car.

There is actually quite a bit of roadside litter here and that kind of pisses me off and then I look down and realize that it looks like a dollar bill...then I notice a $5 bill a few feet ahead...look around and see more. Like if an armored car had popped open last night. Ended of with a wad of cash totaling $70. Probably dropped by a careless drunken tourist last night.

Nobody else around so nothing else to do but pick up the "litter". Sometimes it literally pays to get out of bed at the crack of dawn for that training run.

Trying to understand the rules: posting positive Bleacher Report posts about RR are ok, but negative ones come with a one way ticket to Bolivia.

And I wouldn't sweat the threat of Denard leaving. I would be shocked because it doesn't seem to be in his character to leave his teammates. He's shown an ability to play an honest QB (as opposed to dropping back and looking for the first opportunity to run). What's more surprising to me is that the media continues to lazily compare him to Pat White. He's much more of a Michael Vick throwing the ball than he is Pat White. He can play a pro system.

I don't put much stock into BR posts either way - they are like Board posts that can be front-paged with little oversight. I will say that the negative reports tend to read like mlive/rivals/freep rants, while the positive ones are a little more articulate. This was a good one, but for the sake of completeness I will point out some counter-arguments:

  • The defense under RR has cratered and his recruiting on that side has yet to produce solid playmakers like the offense. At some point the coach has to take the blame for having absolutely no depth in the secondary. It doesn't matter if some of the recruits naturally wash out - the fact that this team has been one of the worst defenses in CFB for 3 years shouldn't happen at a school like UM.
  • Similarly, his mishandling of the DC situation is depressing. If he stays, that will be 3 DCs in 4 years, and the previous 2 were pushed to run the 3-3-5 even though they had little experience with it.
  • He has yet to beat an "elite" team. He's lost 3 times in a row to MSU, OSU, and PSU. Wiscy pounded them all day, and beating an 8-4 "BCS" UConn team is the most prominent win in 3 years. That doesn't cut it at UM.
  • 3-9, 5-7, 7-5+bowl game is simply not that impressive of a run for any coach, and while there might be progress there, it has been glacial from a W-L viewpoint.
  • The amount of media-based "damage" that has been done during the RR era has poisoned recruiting and the national image enough that maybe a change is needed just to wipe the slate clean. Yes, the Freep articles were crock, but an NCAA investigation did occur and some (minor) violatons were found, the first in the team's history. People have been calling for RR's head for years, and the national dialogue has turned against UM being an elite program. Do people really want this team to become ND, Miami, or Nebraska in terms of years of national irrelevance (though at least NU came back a bit recently)? Making a change now saves the team from falling even further.
  • Along those same lines, RR's coaching continued uncertainty has definitely affected recruiting, and other coaches are using that against him. UM needs top talent to succeed, and if this year's class is any indication, some recruits are concerned enough about RR's tenure as to look elsewhere.

I'm not saying that I agree with everything above, but just for completeness. The posted article was well-written and informative, but I knock dumb articles, not ones that I disagree with.

It is a regurgitation of the arguments put forth on here.

It is a partisan piece which means the author neglects and distorts the facts to sell you on his point. I see no difference between this and a Rosenberg article-- or any partisan piece on this matter.

I think a mature analysis would address the grievous errors and tremendous successes of Rodriguez in a forthright matter. People who try to downplay inconvenient facts or make poor analogies are essentially lying to the reader.

To fire RR in year three would be difficult to do because there is the hint of a dramatic turn around. But then you cannot ignore his lack if success at Michigan either. It is a very difficult decision for Brandon to make.

Nevertheless, many solid, factual points are brought up to support Coach Rod. Furthermore, it shows how damaging it could be if Brandon acts on what the critics are saying rather than allow Coach Rod four years to develop his system. Remember......winning heals all, which is what I think will happen if Coach Rod is given a fourth year.

UMich87

because every argument that there is has been made multiple times here. There is nothing new to say.

Now, having said that, I think the BR poster's most important point is that Brandon risks a great deal more in making a change this year than waiting one year. I might feel differently if there was a balanced spread mastermind available, but there isn't.

What a load of crap. These reporters don't know anything. I don't see an SOURCES. Just some slob talking out of his ass. Boycott BleacherReport.

That's what it's like every time a critical article appears.
