Peppers taking reps on offense, knows playbook

Submitted by MichiganMan1999 on

Mods delete if this is common knowledge. I received a text from a current player saying, "He (Peppers) was taking reps at slot during player led practice, knew all the plays. He wouldn't know all the plays unless he was told to do so... So take that however you want".

This was exciting for me to hear, gave me a whole Woodson vibe. Again, if this is already known and i'm late to the party please don't harass me too much and mods delete.

Hopefully he and Adoree Jackson trade some Heismans the next few years.  Almost had both these guys in our backfield together.

USC’s do-everything Adoree Jackson is only a sophomore, but this will be the most important year of his college career.

Jackson wants to win the Heisman Trophy. He wants to win the Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation’s top defensive back. But he could also win those as a junior. What makes this year unique for Jackson is that he also wants to win an Olympic gold medal.

“Actually, I don’t think it will be hard for me (to win),” Jackson said. “I play offense, defense and special teams. Charles Woodson did it when he was at Michigan (and won the award in 1997). That’s how my mindset was set up when I came in to USC.”

With USC sometimes running a Wildcat formation, Jackson is even willing to play quarterback.

wanted him strictly for offense. I'm sure they'd have let him choose to get him but they came to him with the pitch of wanting him at HB/slot. I know Wisconsin and Oregon were both mainly offensive offers. If he wanted to be a punter they'd have taken him but he would have been featured on offense.

If I recall correctly, I remember reading during his recruitment that if he was ranked solely as an offensive player (most likely a RB) than he would have been a 5* there as well

Dare I say that Peppers to slot could possibly make a potentially average offense suddenly... Explosive? Tricky? Fun? AWESOME? FANTASTIC????? AHHHHHH THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!!!

Strongly approve. Hope he does play on O. Even just by practicing there, a side benefit may be an increased understanding of his position on D since to some extent he'll be attacking that same position on O.

Honestly, I'd like to see dymonte on offense in some fashion as well. It's sad when you read his "hello" post, a lot were calling him a "freak athlete" with big time speed. It just seems odd to have such a great athlete standing on the sidelines. I would love to see dymonte and jabrill both get reps on offense.

was a great RB in HS. He played LB on defense and that's where he showed a quick knack for getting to the ball and laying kids out. He is a great athlete...never played Safety until he arrived in AA. I just don't want his only contribution to this Program to be his first snap, the blocked punt, it was electric and I thought with this burst, the beginning of something special. I just wonder with our lack of playmakers, particularly last year, why he wasn't ever considered an offensive option...

Yeah, I mean, I know what you're saying. I just think the coaches last year really were that bad at identifying and developing talent on their own roster. It doesn't seem like that'd be possible - and yet here we are.

I'm going to be unpleasantly surprised if there isn't at least one player this year who has a breakout season after languishing out of position or atrophying for lack of coaching under the previous regime.

Great news. Fully healed up and ready to go. 4 TD in one game possible for Peppers - kick off return, punt return, taking one back, one on offense. That would be great to see. One can dream. Right?

Would have been nice to have Countess at Nickel and Peppers at WR.

Anyway, on obvious passing downs, we just got a legit deep threat!

when I saw our WR play at the spring game, I knew then it was inevitable. Especially because Harbaugh likes to play guys both ways. WR/CB, LB/FB, DE/TE

Interesting to see if Cole is our slot guy starting immediately.  Peppers spells Cole - keep one on the field at all times for short screens, reverses etc....  and always have a guy on the field who can instantly take it to the house.

And if they were both on the field at the same time it would be the most athletic combination of WR's Michigan had ever fielded at one time, right after Anthony Carter and (*insert anyone on the entire roster regardless of position*).

All great recievers, and quite possibly better receivers than Cole and/or Peppers will ever be.  But i am talking just from a pure athletic standpoint.  Many of the Michigan receivers you named werent as athletic as these 2.

I am from the Saginaw area, and have seen some unbelieveable athletes come through in both basketball and football.  Let me just say i do not know if i can put any of them above Cole from an athletic standpoint.  Only saw him 'live' twice as he was suspended for most of the year, but damn the kid is unbelievable.

Of course I remember Stu, went to Purdont, played for like 5 NfL teams, the raiders being the main one right? Maybe the Rams. Charles Rogers was waaaay more than just straight line speed. He made some very acrobatic catches. Lets not start on how unproven Jabril is ON DEFENSE IN COLLEGE, let alone playing both ways. Charles Rogers caught TD passes in like 22 straight college games, yes yes, college games.

If I were a top athlete I'd want to play for a coach that considers playing players both ways.

Would help with recruiting.

I'm going to enjoy the next two years with Peppers.  I trust Harbaugh to develop him into his full potential.  I look forward to watching Jabrill have many years of success in the NFL.
