UM Fan from Sydney

Well I just checked mgoblue.com and it says noon, which surprises me. My guarantee is now FALSE. I'd prefer this particular game to be at noon, though. In hostile crowds on the road, give me noon every time. I don't mind a 3:30 or night road game against bad teams. While I think UM will defeat PSU in two weeks, it would be a tad more difficult later in the day. That's just the way college football is.

Respectfully, no. It was announced as a night game long before the season. The start time being 7 or 8 was in flux until a few weeks into the season, however.

To the best of my recollection, I cannot think of a game between two non-Pac12 power 5 teams being announced as a night game on 1-2 weeks notice.

...I always thought they were a class fanbase until I went up there and was treated shabbily over and over again. First time, 1999 with the Marcus Knight-Brady comeback they were somewhat civil - most of the anger was from the recent domination of the series. Next time in 2006, we were physically threatened at every turn for the night game.

12 hours of drinking may have something to do with it, but I have a pretty good sample size from fellow Wolverines and Lions alike that it was the Ardennes (weather to boot) for those wearing Maize and Blue. Several PSU guys I knew were constantly apologizing. I overestimated their hospitality.

Then someone misinterpreted Brady Hokes ritual of not eating before a Michigan game as a hunger strike and the players threatened to boycott in his honor.

Gotta love the power of college athletes\s

Good, because bad things happen in the dark at PSU.

(OK, I know this is in bad taste, but it's the first thought that came to my mind. And it really is a double entendre, because night games at PSU are also very hard. But I feel bad, and I'm sorry).

What time we play the game.  Penn State is going to lose.

But I don't understand why the game times aren't set before the season starts.   I know TV and ratings BS, but if I'm traveling to see a game it would be nice to be able to make travel plans more than five fucking mins before the game starts.

on a 6-day hold.  EVERY SINGLE B1G game.  Including the likes of Indiana @ Maryland and Illinois @ Minnesota.

I get waiting on the big games ..... but for those games that are destined for ESPNU or BTN anyway, pick a time and show you care a little bit about those die-hard fans that are attending those games.  Give them a chance to plan a bit early.

TV's great in many ways, but the 6-day holds suck.

1995 vs. Wisconsin --- this was a 5 PM ET kick in late September, so it's at the borderline of being a "night game."  TV had something to do with the somewhat goofy start time.

2001 vs. Miami FLA --- 8 PM ET kick for the opener, ABC game.

But that was it in the 1993-2003 era.  I think PSU hosted BYU at night in 1989 but that was a random "one-off" and before my time anyway.

In 2004, PSU hosted Purdue in early October at 4:30 ET.  4:30 ET kick because it had to be scheduled around the MLB playoffs.  This was when Purdue was still very good --- it was like the 1995 Wisconsin game a "borderline night game."  PSU first did the "white-out" for this game.  Purdue won but there was definitely a good atmosphere for the game and the white-out was pretty well received.

The next year, PSU hosted Ohio State in early October at 7:45 ET.  Given the Purdue experience, PSU decided to roll-out the white-out again.  PSU won in a very memorable football game and after that, the night game white-outs beame a thing.

But you are right, for most of the 1990s PSU rarely played at night.  It only really took-off with the 2004 Purdue and 2005 Ohio State games.

The whole Penn State white-out night game as a thing really took off with that 2005 Ohio State game.  Recall that you all were doing poorly for a number of years in a row unitl then, but that game set you up for an undefeated season (which, um, Michigan ruined. Sorry).

I was at the 1991 BYU game at Penn State.  It was a good atmosphere and they clobbered Ty Detmer, but it was nothing like the current white-out night game atmosphere.  That put Penn State on the map night-game wise.

Michigan should hope for a noon game.  The daylight games are nothing compared to the night games.  Even a 3:30 game ends at night, so we really would prefer noon.
