Penn state will not be a night game

Glad to hear it, but I hate not knowing what time the game will be until 6 days beforehand. Damn TV.
November 9th, 2015 at 12:23 PM ^
It will be 3:30. Guaranteed.
November 9th, 2015 at 12:30 PM ^
Or MSU OSU will be the 330 and we'll play at noon.
November 9th, 2015 at 12:36 PM ^
Well I just checked mgoblue.com and it says noon, which surprises me. My guarantee is now FALSE. I'd prefer this particular game to be at noon, though. In hostile crowds on the road, give me noon every time. I don't mind a 3:30 or night road game against bad teams. While I think UM will defeat PSU in two weeks, it would be a tad more difficult later in the day. That's just the way college football is.
November 9th, 2015 at 1:49 PM ^
That may just be a placeholder, though I wouldn't be surprised with MSU/OSU the same day.
November 9th, 2015 at 1:51 PM ^
Just checked as well and if it once said Noon it has been changed back to TBA.
November 9th, 2015 at 1:33 PM ^
I think the MSU-OSU game will probably be the 3:30pm game especially with PSU losing this past week to Northwestern.
November 9th, 2015 at 3:30 PM ^
When I watch MSU/OSU I root for the sinkhole.

Maybe my memory is hazy, but I think the Minnesota game was tagged for night only a few weeks prior.
November 9th, 2015 at 2:40 PM ^
Respectfully, no. It was announced as a night game long before the season. The start time being 7 or 8 was in flux until a few weeks into the season, however.
To the best of my recollection, I cannot think of a game between two non-Pac12 power 5 teams being announced as a night game on 1-2 weeks notice.

Then we shall fight in the shade.

Nice 300 Reset.

Good. Still not sure about us on the road, don't need those assholes to be drunker than usual. (Fuck that fanbase)
November 9th, 2015 at 12:40 PM ^
When I was a student, the Penn State fans were hands-down the worst-behaved group I encountered. They were worse than the OSU and MSU fans by a mile.
That's painting with a pretty broad brush, I admit, but that was my personal experience.

In my experience, Lions are savage drunks...

...I always thought they were a class fanbase until I went up there and was treated shabbily over and over again. First time, 1999 with the Marcus Knight-Brady comeback they were somewhat civil - most of the anger was from the recent domination of the series. Next time in 2006, we were physically threatened at every turn for the night game.
12 hours of drinking may have something to do with it, but I have a pretty good sample size from fellow Wolverines and Lions alike that it was the Ardennes (weather to boot) for those wearing Maize and Blue. Several PSU guys I knew were constantly apologizing. I overestimated their hospitality.

Good, because bad things happen in the dark at PSU.
(OK, I know this is in bad taste, but it's the first thought that came to my mind. And it really is a double entendre, because night games at PSU are also very hard. But I feel bad, and I'm sorry).
November 9th, 2015 at 12:42 PM ^
Do I detect a second double entendre???
November 9th, 2015 at 12:44 PM ^
No, that would be a triple entendre, and a group of MIT mathematicians proved that impossible back in the 90s...

What time we play the game. Penn State is going to lose.
But I don't understand why the game times aren't set before the season starts. I know TV and ratings BS, but if I'm traveling to see a game it would be nice to be able to make travel plans more than five fucking mins before the game starts.
November 9th, 2015 at 12:29 PM ^
Unfortunately they don't really give a shit about the people who need to know for travel arrangements. It's all about TV ratings these days.

they almost ensure you'll book a hotel room either the night before, or after the game. Or both to just be safe. Win win for the local businesses.

on a 6-day hold. EVERY SINGLE B1G game. Including the likes of Indiana @ Maryland and Illinois @ Minnesota.
I get waiting on the big games ..... but for those games that are destined for ESPNU or BTN anyway, pick a time and show you care a little bit about those die-hard fans that are attending those games. Give them a chance to plan a bit early.
TV's great in many ways, but the 6-day holds suck.

When did the whole "Penn State night game" start? Back in the 90s, we always played day games at PSU.
November 9th, 2015 at 12:43 PM ^
1995 vs. Wisconsin --- this was a 5 PM ET kick in late September, so it's at the borderline of being a "night game." TV had something to do with the somewhat goofy start time.
2001 vs. Miami FLA --- 8 PM ET kick for the opener, ABC game.
But that was it in the 1993-2003 era. I think PSU hosted BYU at night in 1989 but that was a random "one-off" and before my time anyway.
In 2004, PSU hosted Purdue in early October at 4:30 ET. 4:30 ET kick because it had to be scheduled around the MLB playoffs. This was when Purdue was still very good --- it was like the 1995 Wisconsin game a "borderline night game." PSU first did the "white-out" for this game. Purdue won but there was definitely a good atmosphere for the game and the white-out was pretty well received.
The next year, PSU hosted Ohio State in early October at 7:45 ET. Given the Purdue experience, PSU decided to roll-out the white-out again. PSU won in a very memorable football game and after that, the night game white-outs beame a thing.
But you are right, for most of the 1990s PSU rarely played at night. It only really took-off with the 2004 Purdue and 2005 Ohio State games.
November 9th, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
The whole Penn State white-out night game as a thing really took off with that 2005 Ohio State game. Recall that you all were doing poorly for a number of years in a row unitl then, but that game set you up for an undefeated season (which, um, Michigan ruined. Sorry).
I was at the 1991 BYU game at Penn State. It was a good atmosphere and they clobbered Ty Detmer, but it was nothing like the current white-out night game atmosphere. That put Penn State on the map night-game wise.
Michigan should hope for a noon game. The daylight games are nothing compared to the night games. Even a 3:30 game ends at night, so we really would prefer noon.

I'm not necessarily scared of PSU, but night games at Beaver Stadium are always difficult.
