Keith said that the only drug problem he had was when he ran out of drugs.

Do you know?
I assume he's referencing some of the online rumors going around that he died of AIDS. I have no idea if that's true, and frankly I don't much feel like trying to figure out the credibility of the rumors. But the tone of this comment--"sorry to hear most of you think he died of the 'flu'"--what?? The scare quotes, the circumspect reference (I guess this poster is more knowledgeable than the rest of us), the "concern trolling" (why are you sorry if we think that?)--God, what a terrible post.
And learn how to use a damn semi-colon you cretin.
Upvote for using 'cretin' and spelling and using it correctly.
which (they are saying) is why his plane couldn't make the last 45 minutes home to minny, but set down in peoria, IL, and he was raced to the ER there. when told (so the report reads) that they couldn't have a private room they put him back on the plane 3 hrs later and took him home. if true, looks like O.D. might be the culprit. not good no matter how it went down, but if it was preventable, that's worse.

He was widely reported as being ill, and in fact had talked with people (within the last day or two) about being ill with the flu. That indicates something viral or some kind of other infection, not a sudden, external event like an O.D.
This has been a good thread. Let's not sully it with wild speculation on the cause of his death.

I grew up in the 80s and just learned "Prince" was his real name. Prince Rogers Nelson. Who knew. Not me, that's who.
In his honor, tonight I'm going to make like Apu and party like it's on sale for $19.99.
I last saw him on April 18, 2013 at a 300 person venue (The Showbox) in Seattle, with Third Eye Girl. They show he put on was...it was other-worldly. I walked out after two hours six feet from him with my ears ringing, my head spinning, and my mouth agape. He played only two songs I'd ever heard before, but the depth and breadth and quality of his skills were indescribable. It was really more like a one-person jam session with the band just trying to keep up. At one point he walked over and took the bass from the bass played and launched into a 10+minute bass solo. To be that close...to be able to see his fingers moving on the strings...it's a precious memory.
Until then I really didn't understand the level of his savant-like talent.
The world is a lesser place today without him.

I remember dancing to Purple Rain when I was 6-7 old.

it's a different world without him. I'm a better person for having lived in his time. There are singular artists who change the world with their art...this is a doozy.

But enjoyed Prince playing his shag coated guitar!

I had to go to storage, where much of my stuff still sits following a major house re-do, to find my Prince CDs and bring them over... Not much stuff up on Youtube, the guy knew how to control his book!
