OT: Rich Rodriguez lands mobile QB from TX plus 3 good LBs (PLEASE DELETE WITH MALICE AFORETHOUGHT THANKS)

Submitted by markusr2007 on

After nailing down his new staff last week, former UM coach Rodriguez  appears to have secured 3 decent LB commits to Arizona, plus a backup QB for returning Matt Scott.

The new quarterback recruit for Arizona is unranked mobile QB Javelle Allen from TX.  Offers from Indiana, Ark State, NM State and Utah State not that exciting, but he does looks like another everybody-says-he-should-be-playing-DB someplace-gamebreaker that Rodriguez has been famous for these past several years.

Arizona's days at 11th in PAC-12 league rushing are probably over.

I only skimmed the thread. I especially support the informative title. It is OT, it involves RR, and it gives the gist of things. Anyone upset about that needs to get a life. With the title, there is no reason to click on the thread. As long as titles are informative, there should be no problem with this kind of post and links going up on the board.

At first I was all "Why do I care about mediocre RR recruits at Arizona again?"

But then I looked at the calendar, and it said Jan. 17. Which means, no college football. In other words, offtopic season. And the thread is labeled as such.

And now all I want to say, in the vein of the "obvious troll is obvious" meme:

Offtopic thread is offtopic.

And we're OK here at MGoBlog with OT threads like the PS3 NCAA dynasty thread and the "Are the NEW YORK RANGERS for real?" threads, but not the former-coach-lands-some-recruits-including-a-QB thread?

Derp, people. Derp.

I can't believe this thread wasn't deleted. Why people keep posting about Rich Rodriguez is beyond me, especially about his recruiting class.

My biggest problem with RR at Michigan is that he was so focused on his offense that he neglected special teams and defense. Maybe he learned something from his brief stay at Michigan.

Sounds like he may have found another diamond in the rough. I hope he works out in Arizona. Nice opportunity for that kid. :-)

I would've NEVER heard about this if not for an OT post on mgoblog. Thanks for posting!

yeah, that's more Dual-Threet than dual-threat.

if he can pass, though, which it appears that he can in his recruiting vid (not much of a strong arm, but fairly accurate), he could be serviceable. Not sure he's the next coming of Denard or Pat White, but with a bigger body (207 is his listed weight), he could grow into a little more of the Logan Thomas/Chris Relf type of mobile QB. Who knows.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this (because it's not worth it), but there's a funny quote about Rich Rodriguez and his staff at Arizona:

"As far as his new coaches go, Bondurant noticed one difference compared to the old staff through just two spring practices: There is a lot more yelling "as a group.""

It's nice to know that Rodriguez and his guys have now made two consecutive stops where their yelling is a bit of a culture shock for the players.
